06:34. Is Johnny's fascinating, and effective, batting style based around the bat he uses? @@SandersteadCCTV Matt bowled well the last few league games. Bowling spin I think it is often easier in league games against batters playing straighter. I will look out for your course though I have a face for radio but the perfect voice for silent movies.
I once played cricket at the prison where Jeffrey Archer (not Jofra) was incarcerated. He umpired the T20 match and told one of our players to stop swearing. The player turned around and promptly told him to f**k off. Much to the amusement of all of our players and the inmates watching...
@@andymoore9977 he needs to be called early or he gets into bad habits and if he bowls with a better umpire he'll never finish an over. Been there umpiring a rural cup match called the young man for back foot no ball the village skipper asked what he was doing wrong i then had to stop game explain rules and then ended up having to demonstrate where feet are allowed to land. It was hilarious the poor kid then lost his line as he had never had to think about feet before. I also got marked down by the home skipper. I wonder why. Good luck and Dan I enjoy your videos sorry for being pedantic but I have a personal reason for making sure people play the game correctly .
@@hiker70 You are quite correct of course. The laws should always be adhered to with some discretion allowing for the odd 'bend' here and there within the context of the game. Veteran swing bowler to 12 year old with 27 needed off 6 balls...."Howzat for LBW Mr Umpire?" "Very close... but not quite close enough'.
My claim to 'fame' - I umpired a game with Dean Jones and another Ausie cricketer when they played for Nostell in the Leeds District League at Carlton back in the late 80's [1988 to be precise...edited].. I or my collegue even gave him out LBW. Lol Nice game!
My meagre claims to fame: batting against Phil Edmunds, bowling to Roger Knight and playing golf with Mike Gatting (the latter at a charity cricket weekend in Japan, a competition won by Kapil Dev, who went round in even par with rented clubs). Also met and spoke to Deano there, while he coached some youngsters. What a lovely bloke.
Tony Fordyce nice! I can tell a few, but on the Gatting theme, I once played in a pro-am 6-a-side tournament at Uxbridge CC. Our pro was Ian Gould (hilarious and a top bloke) - we played Gatting’s side and I had a two ball face off with Gatt, I bowled him only 1 ball which he hit for six as easily as I’ve ever seen, and then when I batted he cleaned me up first ball! Ho hum. As a consolation I got Angus Fraser out stumped in the next game.....
@@SandersteadCCTV Angus Fraser - a highest First Class score of 92, so a good wicket! On the Gatting front (a fairly large one . . .), I also met him a second time about a year ago, when he visited Tokyo again and coached some kids here, including my son who (maybe partly as a result?) then won a cricket scholarship to Millfield! He (my son, not Gatting) is also a keen follower of Sanderstead cricket, and I'm sure he'd love a game sometime next season, if you can accommodate a visiting 13 year old.
I do worry about your sanity sometimes Dan.. Don't like football ? Jesus.. Great to see dev in full flow though.. Another player who doesn't believe in the straight bat.. Magic

@@SandersteadCCTV Matt bowled well the last few league games. Bowling spin I think it is often easier in league games against batters playing straighter. I will look out for your course though I have a face for radio but the perfect voice for silent movies.
Lad with hoodie bowling back foot no balls every delivery.
Well spotted - umpire was delighted to be made aware after the game 😂
Not a smile ! Johnny it’s a wince 😬😬😬😬
I once played cricket at the prison where Jeffrey Archer (not Jofra) was incarcerated. He umpired the T20 match and told one of our players to stop swearing. The player turned around and promptly told him to f**k off. Much to the amusement of all of our players and the inmates watching...
Haha! Love this - couldn’t make it up, brilliant!
I will have to do a cartoon of this, delightful.
@@andymoore9977 If you do, please let me know where i can see it.
Enjoyed the short season. That umpire needs to watch the back foot no balls next season several missed.
I am sure, all in the spirit of the game. But youngsters do need to be supported to get it right.
Lol
Nice game!
Nice one! RIP Dean Jones, though, what a player he was!
@@SandersteadCCTV Wow did not know he died 4 days ago of a heart attack. RIP.
@@SandersteadCCTV
Angus Fraser - a highest First Class score of 92, so a good wicket!
25:24 Bottled? No! Umpire acting in the true spirit/context of this game. My moment of the match or perhaps even the whole truncated season.
One of so many lovely moments this season, thanks again.
I do worry about your sanity sometimes Dan.. Don't like football ? Jesus.. Great to see dev in full flow though.. Another player who doesn't believe in the straight bat.. Magic
😂 Can't stand the game!
I would happy pay for dan vettori I mean Matt Harris to come and play for Wanak Cricket Club South Island in New Zealand loving the videos Dan
Thank goodness for the second a in Wanak.
😂
@@fman02 It's a third a actually, but the second one is so easy to miss when you're typing :)
Always knew Lockey was a wrongun
😂
A match that had everything apart from a few 'tea pots', a trio of Ukrainian gold medal winning gymnasts patrolling the leg and on side boundary and a Chelsea flower show best in show contestant fielding at second slip.
Love this! Thanks Andy, as ever.....
Some live streams next year Dan?
Not sure about matches - it's a technical challenge at our club as the bandwidth is poor. But we may try some live chat stuff over the winter.....
So many back foot no-balls in the second innings. Game would have been over 5 overs earlier if the umpires had been paying attention
I think the beer was flowing in the village that day 😂
9 lives Johnny
Jonny the cat!
@@SandersteadCCTV 65? average about 15 for each chance. Of course no one ever dropped a catch or fumbled a stumping when I was batting....
Now Dan...while you rake in the coin with your online tuition courses for setting up TH-cam channels, a mere mortal offers a suggestion. If, in 2021, you are allowed to hold Club awards for what was the 2020 season, can your channel followers vote in a category. I don’t suppose there is a way for only subscribers to vote...just an idea. In your down time, watch out for Horley...coming up on the outside with some cracking graphics and (sit down for this) scorecards🤭🤭😜🏏
😂 hi Mike - Andy at Horley has subscribed to the course and I continue to impart my experience to him as I want others to succeed (rising tide lifts all boats etc). I like the idea of a fans vote - I am launching a (free) newsletter to a subscriber list, and I suggest these people be the ones who get to have a say in such matters. It always gets me.....
Hi Dan, I sent an email to the Sanderstead Gmail address last week. Now that winter is closing in here in Darkest Mid Wales (we have already had two frosty mornings) I will soon be starting work on some stuff for your proposed compendium. I just need to know where to send it.
Thanks Andy - please try me at sandersteadcctv@gmail.com as I don't always get any emails to the main sanderstead CC gmail
09:15 What a delightful bit off side info - certainly not trivia. But what gives the greatest buzz - a hard grafted 25 on 'the rec' in a 'Village' game or trotting about in shorts in the middle of winter kicking an inflated pig's bladder..... in front of 100k live fans and 100 million TV viewers? Answers on a postcard - none will be accepted from folk fielding in hoodies.....
Isnt a bit cold for cricket?? lol
