Hi , I live in Paphos so naturally this caught my attention and yes it is a building site I've been here over 23 years now and the harbour has been dug up three times in that space of time. They always seem to start digging just before the summer season starts LOL coral bay is also under rubble right now but in their defence the town is a bit tidier than before.Twenty years ago the harbour and bar street was buzzing but systematically the police shut down the bars one by one and then COVID decimated what was left so I guess this is an attempt to revive the industry. The big hotels provided "all inclusive" which killed off most of the small bars and restaurants which is sad. On the plus side Cyprus is beautiful out of the towns and you need to visit the small villages to really see true culture . The weather is great and yes it rains in the winter with snow on the mountains. But all in all it's a nice place to visit cheap, friendly and safe but sadly they don't always know how to bring out the best of it.
Lee I’m from Mansfield and lived in Cyprus for 10 years, 3 years of that in Paphos. You’re in the closed season and the transformation that happens over the next weeks and months every year is amazing
Unfortunately Lee, you have visited during the biggest renovation Paphos has had which, as everyone knows, can only take place out of season. Paphos is an absolutely beautiful place and once the works been completed it will be better than ever 🥰, please don’t be put off, and try and get back there once it’s all done x
We went to Paphos last year and was skeptical but loved it, funnily enough we didnt go looking at bins and run down businesses out of season 😭 ..Paphos is improving all the time and having money spent on it all the time, all the pavements and roads and landscaping and not a pointless cycle lane in sight! 😬
I understand it's out of season, but if I had booked a holiday here and it was like this I'd be peed off big time, it's awful, we should be advised about works being done on booking, definitely.
Because you've gone out of season. They can only build in winter Think heat causes issues with cement and you wouldn't want to build when there's tourists about
Lee this video broke my heart 💔 I feel so sorry for you. I went here in 2015 and it was exactly the same. Dilapidated, run down, derelict and building sites. I was excited when you said you were going but as I can see nothing has changed. Hope you’ve not planned too far ahead in terms of going back here. I know you’ll maybe recognise my name from your comments section and so therefore you’ll know how much I love Gran Canaria. We were supposed to be going there a week today but my husband can’t fly due to a health scare so we’re not going anymore. Either way! I’m hoping you can go somewhere more deserving of your effort, content and presence. I will support you whilst your there though in anyway I can. Lots of love xxxx
My local Sainsbury used to have 4 cashpoints, my local Tesco used to have 3, alternative used to have 3 as well, all 3 locations now have 1each. All pushing for cashless. Sainsbury yesterday, proving that cashless is not necessarily being a good idea (apart from controlling what we spend our money on). Cash is King
I have this vision of you visiting each one and taking a tenner out of each. Are there large queues at the reduced number of cash points? No? Didn't think so.. As long as there are still some and they're free to use there is no problem as far as I can see
Funny …when you were in Sydney , you chose not to show the building sites around Darling Harbour and Circular Quay to name but two of the many construction sites there , yet in Paphos it’s a different story .
Probably because Sydney is an international working Capital City and there is always construction, urban renewal and street maintenance going on somewhere downtown. Cyprus on the other hand is literally just one big tourist resort catering to international holiday makers, so those obtrusive construction works that have literally taken over the entire downtown will have a very negative impact on tourism (which Cyprus lives on) due the ambience and amenity of the area being ruined, if not the personal safety of the tourists put in danger too due to the evidently shoddy OH&S practices...

Hiya Lee. As a regular visitor to Cyprus, 4 times a year, being out of season a lot of places do close down and it does look a little depressing at times. The work going on in Paphos town will be mostly finished in the next few months and is a great improvement to what it was before. Pavements you couldn’t walk on etc. Don’t bother going to Larnaca there really isn’t much there. Someone mentioned that you should have gone to Ayia Napa but that really does close down in the winter months. Anyway still enjoyed the vlog today. 👍👍
Ayia Napa is not closed in winter I been to Cyprus in February & March ayia napa is open. Protaras is shut all winter and nothing is open barely , and I have visited ayia Napa around February and March , all restaurants and McDonald’s is open all year round . You may have been to Cyprus-in winter but, you got the wrong resort I went last mid February towards end of March to ayia Napa and everything was almost open , my parents used to own a place in Cyprus at parlimni and we used to go more than 4 times a year as everything is open at ayia Napa . I didn't recognise anything of Paphos. I first went to Cyprus in 97 in April and it wasn't very warm at all. Definitely out of season. Very hot in season.
Ok, look, I have lived in Cyprus for 30 years! For about the past year Paphos went under a total renovation. Why they decided to do the whole thing at once is the question! So what you filmed was the worst it's been ever! Now it's finished, looks great and tourists are back in large numbers. Please come back and make another video to show it as it is now!
Hi Lee, I know it's off-season, but still, lots of parked cars but no people on the street. Hey, someone in the comments thread doesn't like you complaining ! Wow ! You have every right to complain when it's warranted. You do your thing, Lee ! Hope your holiday improves !
You could have extended your Australia trip by a week and spent it somewhere up or down the Western Australian coast, say Esperance, Busselton, Ningaloo Reef or Broome. Theres no comparison.
Cyprus is one of the safest, friendliest, sunniest, and modern holiday destinations. Paphos has been going under a major face-lift for a number of years, and theirs a tone of positive progress in most areas, in other parts of the city (not in this video). The road construction in Kato-Paphos is coming to an end before the summer season. I live in Canada and visit Cyprus often.
That's a shame I've just driven round where he filmed and it's not as bad as it looks and will be finished at some stage Cyprus is lovely if you get out of the tourist areas

It's winter and most of the tourist facilties are closed, though starting this weekend the hotels are coming to life ready for the British Easter holiday. There are few UK visitors here at the moment, and the weather is still quite cool - around 18 degrees - but there probably won't be much more rain. By May the place will be bustling with activity.
We are currently in Paphos in a 5 star all inclusive hotel and loving it. The promenade walk to the harbour and castle is fantastic as is walking the opposite direction towards the little church of St Nicholas

Lee you spend so much time exposing (rightly) the numerous flaws of EVs but you joke about not paying with cash. If we lose cash we lose the freedom to pay for what we want anonymously and freely. The two go hand in hand - you admit you know EV's are about control yet you are complicit in the process because the task of getting some money out of your wallet is evidently sooooo much harder than tapping your iwatch on a screen. Do us all a favour and get behind cash as you claim you are behind ICE cars and small businesses....
Problem with having a fruit based phone and watch, you want to use all the features, and just annoy everybody else in the queue whilst you muck about with the screen trying to pay. Slap a fiver down, get change, disappear.
Hi Lee we were in Paphos in September and it was like a building site then it was quite honestly the worst place we have ever been to and would never return. On a plus side though the fish and chips at T&Js were the best ever.
6:40 I certainly agree about suppressing the music. Many TH-camrs seem to think music, or more often, muzak, is essential, but I welcome music-free videos, unless I specifically want to watch a concert performance. Another thing you could drop is pulling ridiculous faces when a meal is served. You're not 12 any more. Just show us the meal! No gurning needed.
We were thinking of paying a visit to Paphos as we haven't been there in 20 years. Thank goodness I watched your video. I think I'll leave it a couple of years.
You're miles out of season - think everything starts to open at the end of April. Only thing is, even when everything is open Cyprus is not that nice. PS: Nowt wrong with bucket hats 🤣
Thats a shame but it really is out of season so I hope they tidy it up by the end of April. We have been three times and always loved it there. Saying that, its was about 20 years ago. Always found the Cypriots very friendly, welcoming and generous. The local food is fantastic too.

Nice one, Lee. Lovely building site 👍👍👍
He thinks like most people, we need businesses to take cash and card. Sainsburys had a problem at the weekend, people couldn't pay by card.
Problem with having a fruit based phone and watch, you want to use all the features, and just annoy everybody else in the queue whilst you muck about with the screen trying to pay. Slap a fiver down, get change, disappear.
Hes to popular to reply now
Cash is King!
I use cash as often as I can. Plenty of ATMs near me, all free to use.
Greetings from the Uk where last night I managed to eat Sunday roast and watch the Liverpool/Manchester game at kensington pub
That was great. I really enjoy the videos without the gimmicks (when you are just yourself) , especially when you go somewhere different.
Really enjoy the straight up walk and exploring format!
Just come back to Australia mate, we'll have you back!
Great Lee,well done, very enjoyable, nice banter, spot on captain
Wrong place, Wrong time for Cyprus lee
off-season Cyprus, rainy and under construction, so no surprises there...
Great for clickbait titles though 😅
Reminds me of Els Bells in Carry on Abroad!
I've learnt two things from watching your vlogs , don't buy an EV and don't go to Cyprus. Thank you, duly noted 😂😂
We were thinking of paying a visit to Paphos as we haven't been there in 20 years. Thank goodness I watched your video. I think I'll leave it a couple of years.
It's fine now!
Proper dive the whole of Cyprus, one big dump 😂
Sounds like an old Carry on Holidaying movie 😂😂😂😂
IF THAT TUK TUK WAS PARKED THERE IN UK IT WOULD BE GONE OVERNIGHT
I went to Scotland , Lochfyne area. Wonderful time , some rain, but that's normal. don't need a passport at the moment. Wonderful 4 star restaurant in the hotel.
If it ain't beni then it ain't heaven 🎉
It's been like this for the last 2 years. Go to Coral Bay it's even worse . Love your channel.
it looks abit like a dump there😂 no vibe to the place. Have you been Italy? rome an veince milan etc
