    I love my tent-cot. This version is meant for two people - one on each side of the bar. It is not meant for 1 bigger guy. I have the ONE person XL compact version. It’s 7 ft long, almost 3 feet wide with just over 3 ft headroom. And it’s rated up to 350 pounds. I’m 6 foot, about 275 and I have room. Not exactly spacious but it is what it is. I’ve had it 2 seasons now and love it. Being off the ground is just so much easier getting in and out with my bad knees.
    The problem here, I think, is that you didn’t know about the bar down the middle. The Kamp-Rite website actually mentions the bar and says it’s meant to be two distinct sleeping areas.
    And it is meant to be used a a recliner, which looks ridiculous to me. The compact models don’t do that. Instead the tent and cot can be used separate which is awesome. I’ve taken just the tent on a few canoe trips with long portages. It also folds up a lot better than the regular version.
    I guess all I’m saying is don’t write off Kamp-rite. The model you got just wasn’t what you needed. Try the compact version in the XL size instead.

    Watching this guy set up the tent cot hurts. I hope he doesn't do his own home repairs. He and I are big people. That's not the manufactures fault. I'm looking at this as a single person tent because I am 5'11" 280 lbs. His comments on quality may be correct.

    • @NewZonaRides

      Show me a video of you setting it up. I do all my own home repairs and I have a high level of mechanical aptitude. So post a link so we can all see how you just breeze though it like a pro. Everything in my video was spot on. You can either heed my advice or be unhappy with this product. It's up to you. My video was free so take it for what it's worth. At 280 pounds you will hate this product. It's not made for you for sure.

    I am 5 foot 11 inchs and got the xl which I guess is not as large as yours. I am 225lbs and my little dog sleeps inside and my big dog sleeps under. I love it, I use it for canoe camping and everybody else wishes they were not sleeping on the ground. Sure, it is not a camper, but it is very comfortable imho. I can set mine up fairly quick, as fast as a regular tent. I do use it for a lounge chair, just laying on top of the tent material, that is a great bonus. Dude, you are are 300 lbs, 24inches is a regular cot, come on, be realistic. Maybe I am missing something, the screen can be used and the screen cover and then the rain fly, that is a good set up. Have you ever slept in a small tent before? Condensation is always an issue, buy a camper if you need more comfort.

    would this be a hot tent to use in the summer months, does it have good ventilation and do you think it would collect a lot of condensation.

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you watch any of the video? All of your questions are answered clearly. I will tell you though, no this is not a good tent to use in the summer. Imagine sleeping in a large trash bag and then inside that bag you are using a second trash bag as a sleeping bag. That is how this tent works no matter the weather.

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am confused on why you are interested? Was there something specific you think would have been helped in the design of this tent if the instructions were read? Do you know of something in the instructions that improves the quality and manufacture of this product? I didn't base my opinion on my struggle to initially set it up. It was based on the quality, design and use. Just so you don't think I am dodging your statement, I didn't mention reading the instructions because I generally don't read instructions unless forced to. This video depicts what happened when I took it out of the box for the first time. I have a high level of mechanical aptitude, I don't usually need instructions and find it fun to figure stuff out. You may be different than I am. I hope this helps clarify things.

      @@NewZonaRides the hole in the fabric is a justifiable complaint. I would have returned the product. As to the other complaints the cot is fine it is just not doing what you want it to do. Hi, I enjoy all you and your wife's videos. I was interested in this Kamp Rite Double Tent Cot but Now I'm not so sure. I'm glad you mentioned the bar in the middle being so annoying. I'm just wondering if putting a thicker foam pad or egg crate foam pad underneath their thin pad would help. My son in law likes to spread out when he sleeps. He is big and tall so I thought this double size would be more comfy for him...but maybe not. Did you happen to try additional padding under it? If so, did it help? Thanks, Fe

    • @NewZonaRides

      The website specifically says that it’s made as 2 separate sleeping areas meant for 2 people - not one large cot. As for the weight it’s got a friggin cot attached to it. I have the compact XL version and love it. Videos on the website also mention the condensation with the fly on. I’ve used other back pack tents - typically 2 person - and have the same issue. This guy just didn’t know what he was buying. He should have done a little more research I guess.

    Condensation : it's a small two-man nylon tent on cot. It has the same issues as any other, they have to be vented. This gentleman may be better with a canvas tent, which breaths better and put a cot in it. The benefits of the kamp rite, isn't what he is looking for.

    • @NewZonaRides
      @NewZonaRides  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you feel are the benefits of this tent? I feel all the perceived benefits are negated by complication and weight and lack of ventilation.

    • @jackwaau
      @jackwaau 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NewZonaRides there is no lack of ventilation. It is at least 50% no-see-um mesh. Like any other small nylon tent, you have to ventilate. If you have it closed up you will wake up wet. If you put a fly on, I would open the four flaps over the mesh first.
      One of the benifits is I don't have to worry about the weather, it will handle a gale. I have four tents, each has different benefits.
      If some see no benefit of a tent on a cot and the ways it can be set up. They shouldn't buy it. For just one tent. A more general-purpose 4P dome, you can stand up in, could be more functional.

      Yes. The bar down the middle separates the sleeping areas for a couple -so you don't both sag to the middle. This guy needs the oversize single. My wife and I use one of these. Sometimes on the ground and sometimes crosswise on my Tacoma short bed. Gets us way off the ground and is very stable and comfortable (use 2x6 boards across the truck bed, the two center cot legs and leave the outer two folded and resting on the bed rails. The straps can be hooked into the wheel wells.
