Beat $21.50 (Canadian lol) I’ve ever spent.

I encourage you to listen to the song again but with the lyrics in-hand. Rush wrote some of the most complex and meaningful lyrics for songs with some of the greatest riffs you'll ever hear. "But glittering prizes and endless compromises........shatter the illusion of integrity". Amazing.

@@kidkong637 A fair point indeed! Cream and Jimi's band were amazing. I just think that like so many other acts in music, they laid the groundwork for future bands to build on. Music is subjective of course- but I feel that what Rush accomplished as a three piece is simply unbeatable.

Geddy's hero was Chris Squire from Yes. For me, it's a toss up between the two. Geddy performed Roundabout with Yes at Yes' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Geddy is the only living bass player that could pull that bass line off.

For me, their recognizability went deeper then just Geddy's voice. When I heard a new Rush track for the first time on the radio, I could tell before Geddy even sang a note. But, I've been a fan since 1981, and I had 7 years of albums to catch up on.

This one really puts Alex's talent front and center. He is as good on a guitar as Neil was on drums.
I think their Roll the Bones album is underappreciated. It was a big commercial success when it was released, but it doesn't get the love that Moving Pictures does. Rush has moved around a lot with their musical style, and Bones was a big change from their earlier work.

Live versions are entertaining for those who've listened to the studio version of the song 1000's of times. But for a first time listening, you really need to be listening to the original. @@christaylor5996 Wrong. It ALWAYS matters to anyone with ears. Not that Rush (or Pink Floyd, or Peter Gabriel, etc) aren't great live, it's just a very very different experience sonically, and should not be used to evaluate a song for the first time. But whatever. Keep banging your drum. You'll be the only one believing it.
