It's an all time classic with ot without the Rolling Stones's paper pushers inteferring with the rights. This is a way better song than the so called inspiration that inspired it.

He's using a half-open hi-hat, which muddies the overall mix and he uses it more than the song calls for. Listen to Pete Salisbury play the same song when The Verve reunited in 2008 (th-cam.com/video/AdwUzBa95oQ/w-d-xo.html) and you'll hear a MUCH tighter drum part. Of course, it's also a better recording. I stand by this drummer being terrible.
