I adopted my dog while I was working out there six years ago. The shelter was overflowing with shepherds and huskies. She was spayed, chipped, vaccinated, and all fees waved because of how dire the situation was at that time. Lots of pups go to good homes and end up in the same place.
Please spay and neuter your pets. Shelters in CA and around this country are overwhelmed. So many animals are euthanized because there is no space. Allowing your pet to breed is irresponsible and selfish. Also, fixing your dog helps prevent many diseases/cancer as they age.
this. if you are not a breeder who knows what they're doing (health testing, tilting dogs, only creating dogs that have a purpose w/ families lined up, dogs you will take back, contract that requires neuter and spay unless they're going to a proven show home/they are going to be co-owned) and if that dog is not a health tested, temperament proven, titled, within conformation akc/ukc/etc dog, then that dog does not need to have puppies. this is EXACTLY what backyard breeding is (just random dogs bred to random dogs unintentionally or not) and is exactly WHY so many dogs are in shelters. because people do not spay dogs that have zero business having pups and it results in people smearing both rescues, shelters, and breeders in a bad light when all three support eachother and make eachother better when they are ethical and not rip offs of what they should be.
I went on that tour a few years ago, and Bear was a part of the crew! It was a fun day out in the bay. I'm glad they are finding homes for the puppies. For the (dogs') health, it would be good to get them fixed, but it is their choice as owners. 🤗
Honestly it’s irresponsible not to get her fixed. Not only because pyometra is deadly to her but this country is in crisis with millions of animals being euthanized for space each year. More puppies is the last thing that should be added to it.

This is not a feel-good story. I'm pretty disgusted that everybody thinks this is great. Do you have any idea of how many animals are taken to Big City shelters everyday? Including the San Francisco Bay Area question mark it's horrific. 35250 animals generally go into an animal shelter every single day. That's every single day. So no, I don't think seven additional puppies is a good thing. I think people out of spay and neuter their damn animals so we can make it at least a dent in the overpopulation at shelters because it means that more than 70% of animals in shelters never make it out, they get euthanized. That's 70 to 90% of animals in shelters getting killed year-round.

It's not free. Normally, individuals would be billed for the services provided, but something tells me this person may not receive any bill. It would cause too much bad publicity for the city.

If there was a valid reason for calling 911, that should have been covered, as well. Otherwise, at best, it seems they called 911 out of surprise and the first responders had a slow day and why not call the news with this cute feel good story about 6-8 surprise Xmas puppies that people will line up for because they’ve been on the news? I am lucky to have experienced the same thing not once but twice. My german Shepherd had one planned and one surprise pregnancy for a total of 9 little puppies from which 8 lived as one was stillborn. The surprise pregnancy was due because she " locked" with a friend recently spayed male German Shepherd and that male had for a lack of better terms one last bullet to shoot.

Wow these comments! People act like these puppies weren’t a blessing. This was an exciting surprise to share with the world. They are purebred German Shepard, to the look of it. These dogs are great companion and worker dogs. In the clip they mentioned they will be giving first dibs to rescue mission operations.
Wow your comment! You act like it's a great thing that tens of thousands of animals are put down in California every week! Why do you hate animals so much? Or maybe I should ask what kind of medication you're on that you think seven new puppies is a blessing in a city where thousands of dogs and cats will be put down in the next month? Do you even think about that? Or is your entire life a fantasy?
Any shelter in LA has a great selection of German Shepherds, Huskies, and Pitties in their shelters and on their euth lists.
