  • This is my 2022 Trek Marlin 6. In this video ill be unboxing and installing my PNW Components Loam Dropper post, Loam Lever, PNW grips, and my WTB Volt saddle. I am drilling into my bike frame, which I DO NOT recommend you try at home. This can weaken the structural integrity of your bike making it unsafe, as well as it voids your bike manufacturers warranty. Below are the links to the equipment in this video.

    Just purchased this bike, same colorway even. The shop is assembling it over the weekend and I'm picking it up next week. Hopefully I made the right decision.

      Awesome!! Yeah James I’ve had a few marlins and this is by far the best one I’ve had. I really don’t have any complaints. I think you’re really gonna enjoy it. I still love mine! Check out my video on making the tires tubeless. That was a great upgrade.

    I have the same bike, I went with Ergon Grips, and Supacaz Smash Pedals! Richardson Bike Mart here!

      That’s cool man I like those Ergon grips too. That’s what I put on my last bike and I really liked them. I think I had the GA3. I’ve never heard of those pedals I’ll have to go check them out. Richardson Bike Mart is great! I’ve been over there several times, lots of stuff in stock!

    I have the same grips and in the same color LOL. Nice setup man!
    Do you think it still worth getting a dropper post even though i don't do that many jumps?

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Man it’s personal preference. I had a full suspension bike with one and I loved it. I can’t have a bike without one now. I don’t do jumps, but it is nice when going through certain trails to be able to get that seat out of the way.
      Next is tubeless, then air fork upgrade.

    Really helpful and well made video! I’m just gonna send it and drill my 2020 Marlin 5 too, if anything truly happens to the frame I’m not gonna lose sleep over $580 CAD to replace it. Shame they couldn’t just leave hole but hey, I love my marlin frame otherwise so what can you do.

    I honestly cannot believe, of all companies, that Trek makes the dropper post install so needlessly difficult.

    • @bobbo1216
      @bobbo1216 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s because it is a beginner bike. All of their higher end bikes come with them installed😂

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I agree. They just want you to buy their more expensive bikes, really it’s ridiculous. With that being said, it really wasn’t very difficult to install and it’s been an amazing upgrade. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

    I have a Marlin 7 and my Loam dropper is in the mail. Didn’t realize until today that there isn’t a whole in the seat tube. I just don’t know if I wanna drill a hole. I’m comfortable doing it, but hate to void the warranty. The Loam has a lot more features over the Cascade which is there external routed version that would fit. Idk. How has it held up for you? Not sure how hard you ride?

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah man I love it. It works perfectly every time. Being a bigger older guy, I’m definitely not out thrashing like the young ones, but we have some pretty good trails I ride. I totally understand not wanting to drill a hole in the frame. And honestly I really don’t think it’s that big of a difference between the internal vs external, maybe just the looks. I think the cascade would be pretty rad. Once you have a dropper it’s hard to ride a bike without one. I love it! Good luck with it, you won’t be disappointed.

  • @kwaktak
    @kwaktak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They used to have that routing point in the seat tube in the 2019 models. I don't know why they did away with them since the bikes are not trail capable without upgrading some things. I have a Marlin 7 from that year and painlessly installed a PNW Ridge 125 dropper post with a Wolf Tooth Lever. OTOH if you do all your own installations and setups what good is a warranty anyway, right? Great work!

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! I bet they got away from that routing hole to make people jump up to the Roscoe or something like that. Thanks man!

    • @kwaktak
      @kwaktak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scottsworld21 There's not really much of an overlap with the Roscoe though; the Marlin is more the poor man's X Caliber IMO - which is why there's no longer an X Caliber 7 but a Marlin 8 now instead. The XCal still has that routing point BTW. The XCal 8 costs twice as much as the Marlin 6 though.

    • @kwaktak
      @kwaktak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scottsworld21 PS, I'm an older guy too. Having a dropper post has been a Godsend; it's reduced the wear on MY components! 😉

    • @macfin4862
      @macfin4862 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd wondered if when the hole was not used if it allowed moisture dust and grit to get inside the frame and in to the bottom brakcet?

  • @iseeker3845
    @iseeker3845 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So, if you don’t drill a hole, is externally routed dropper the only option?

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that is correct. From everything I have researched, you cannot route that cable internally without drilling a hole. The marlins used to have predrilled holes for this, but got rid of them.

      Man it’s a great bike! I used to have a full suspension Fuel EX 7. I like this bike better. It’s just a good all around bike. I was gonna change the fork to an air fork, but I haven’t had any issues with this one so far, so I’m having trouble spending $250 on a new one. The dropper post is awesome! • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I just eye balled it. You want something just a tad bigger than the cable. I didn’t want it too tight to where it was a struggle to feed the cable through, but didn’t want it too big to where the cable would rattle. It’s not a huge deal though.
