I'm so sad because 10 year ago on the last page of my highschool yearbook there was a ticket to 10 year later reunion but yesterday I asked everyone I knew my classmate on social media I know if there is reunion, they were reply with forget, don't care, and something like that. It hurt first because I wait 10 year until today July 19th 2024, I believe that last page of yearbook there will be reunion but there is not. They are seperated to far and can't come or meet. I'm currently 22, just graduated from my undergrad and am continuing into grad school. I grew up in Jakarta, in a private school. This song brought me somewhere I haven't been in years.
This song reminds me of those times when the hardest things in life were exams and romance. When we really did believe that we were fighting a tough battle, we thought we were giving it our all, it was our "modern Sparta" after all.
It brings me back to when things were simpler, when hormones were rampant, when cliques were everything. Being a nerd in high school didn't help either, I was definitely helpless against a "teenage armada". Those times when drama between friends and lovers alike was all that mattered. A time when such immature, teenage things meant the whole world to us.
I long for when time would stop when you were with the person you loved. I long for the time when everything was a simple comedy-drama.But now that I'm here, 4 years older, I feel like a totally different person. Am I really better, now that I'm older? I don't know... I hope so. I hope high school me thinks so.
But high school was a different time, and this song brought all those feelings back for me. I can't help but cry at the bittersweet feeling of the amazing, fun, wonderful times I had, and the fact that all of it had to end.
It could have went a lot different... but we went to high school in Jakarta. And that's what made me who I am today. And I am eternally grateful to have had that experience.

i'm a college graduating student, a half filipino-indonesian and i grew up in the philippines. i was always curious about how life would be if i grew up in indonesia and if things would be the same. someday i'll visit jakarta and probably stay there because i want to learn about the culture and be invested in them. thanks to niki and brian, i somehow feel a little bit closer to my indonesian background.

Im kinda the complete opposite. Also fil-indo but I grew up Filipino, studied in a Philippine school back in Saudi, but was kinda coerced to be more Indonesian. Listening to Nikki and Brian did help me appreciate the culture, but living here in Indonesia has made me realize a lot of things. Greatful, but still wish I was in the Philippines instead.
Be happy that you are not growing up in Indonesia. 50.90% of us are in poverty and the people littered everywhere.

But growing up Filipino and being forced to act a certain way is just isn't for me. People are different here too yes, but that's not bad. It just shows the difference in culture.

The only thing Indonesian about this song is her literally saying the word "Jakarta". Everything frmo the names of her friends in her song (anglo names) and the school culture depicted (American) in it is not indonesian. But she is telling her story of her high school experience so i guess that's it.

i had a great cinematic experience from this MV NIKI!! i recognized that some scenes are linked with the other MVs, probably the best production among the three songs of ‘Nicole’ so far.
