I think Adams is a little disrespectful about Donnelly, after all, during the Suicide mission, he and Daniels were the chief engineers

Ken and Gabby haven't been in a military ship and a military operation for a while. The mission they did with Shepard wasn't military. Since, Adams is an officer and a strict one at it, having the engineers laughing and mouthing off on duty, would definitely pissed him off. That and the fact they're on an official military operation, kind of makes sense that Adams expect them to behave accordingly. At least, that's how I see it.
