During this period, I took a Zoom lesson with Michael. Musically, it was transformative; but more importantly, I became friends with one of the most positive people I've ever met. Michael is simply an awesome human being.

I was so impressed by watching this video. I’m an older player like Mike (though not at his level) and in 2011 had half of my right hand thumb amputated due to cancer and I used that as an excuse to not play or , at the least, play badly because I couldn’t grip the pick like I could previously. I’ll never use that excuse again! Also, hearing the name of Dennis Sandoli really perked my ears up! In 1970, I was a young aspiring rock guitarist in Philadelphia and friends with a great local player, Jimmy Zaleski. Jimmy was studying with Sandoli and suggested I take some lessons with him. So, I booked my first lesson, showed up at his upstairs small studio, and as soon as I walked in heard one of his students warming up for his lesson. I was so intimidated that I got up and walked out! It took me almost a full year to book another first lesson with Dennis. I was interested in using my own style to play but really needed some theoretical help to get me out of that “box.” I only took a few lessons from Dennis, but it influenced my playing for many years to come. Thanks for the memories. PS: I saw Mike play in person in San Diego about 5-7 years ago and was blown away by the joy on his face while playing. He’s a consummate player, for sure..........incredible rhythms!

@Emory Elliott Carson is a spammer, I would avoid logging into the site he is promoting.

About 5 years ago (which was a very different time for me since I'm 20) my trombone teacher saw mike stern and gushed to me about it and I didn't get it. I had my Mike stern moment a couple months ago when someone recommended his version of Nardis, which is fucking killer. What I love most about him is how accessible his knowledge is. Same with Chick, rest in peace.

19:18 Who said: "Forget all that shit and play" ? Charlie Parker. Anyway, always a great pleasure to listen to Mike, playing and talking.
