I love the colour choices, it means they get sold off really cheap after a few years when the colour no longer matches the new kitchen decor but still works fine though.
Yeah I think this is true of a lot of these brands but more noticeable of more expensive ones. I try and keep things working for as long as possible though. I recently managed to reseason a Teflon oven tray, they’re cheap but why waste it.
@@Chris-techgamesfood My old toaster died just before Christmas and as a result of reading too many reviews and getting picky I eventually found my ideal preference on Gumtree a few miles from me in March. I guess obsessively checking Facebook marketplace, eBay nearest or similar would work comparibly well and my love of bargains outweighed my need for toast.
Thank you for the video. I'm a general retro-style fan, having grown up in an era when household appliances were better engineered as a matter of the norm, be they vacuums, cookers, washing machines etc and lasted for decades. So in this latter age of 'if it breaks bin it' it's very refreshing to come across an appliance built to those high quality old school standards. I've just ordered the four slot Dualit toaster with the part copper finish, and it was the 'repairable' description that really caught my eye. I've never come across a modern manufacturer declaring this ! And it's British ! Even if it was never actually used to toast its solid 50's / 60's retro appearance would make it look a great object to have on the kitchen worktop !
I’m glad you enjoyed the video, my mum had a hotpoint freezer that did 25 years! Modern stuff just isn’t the same quality, unless you spend REALLY big money. These are commercial grade toasters and like you noticed, fully repairable, simple but high quality. It’ll look great in your kitchen for sure and it’ll last many years too. Thanks for watching and commenting 😀
Michael assembled mine too. Bought it about 1 years ago and liked the simplicity and repairability . It's a 4 slice and I have just replaced the first element, previously replaced the timer but it's all easy.
Good afternoon from Somerset England. The toaster was about 5 years old when the timer failed and 6 when one element failed. The new element came from Dualities but it does not seem to get as hot as the others. The timer came from Ebay but was genuine and new.. We have had quite a few makes of toasters over the years and they all fail in the end so thatswhy I went for Dualit.@@C.A.MARSUPIAL
I've just been repairing/refurbishing my 32-year-old Dualit Combi, every single part is still available, so replacing the neon bulb and the broken crumb tray handle was easy via eBay, and it's a polished aluminium one, so it cleaned up like brand new with a bit of Duraglit. Dualit Duraglit...
The difference comes in how you select which slots to use and it now includes a bagel function. Nothing major really but still good to have. No gimmicks with these, just something that’ll last you years and years. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I put it back and kept a close eye on it, slightly burned but that’s how it like, BBQ style! Thanks for watching and commenting! It’s currently cold here and gets dark really early!
Thank you for this useful review. It seems very wide and I am trying to understand why they’ve made it so wide as it looks like it takes a lot of space in a smaller kitchen. I am sold on the fact that the dials are robust but that width is bothering me 😅
That’s ok, I’m glad it was useful 😊 I think it’s so wide as you can basically replace all the parts. I guess replaceable non soldered parts are larger and need room to be changed. I just made some room for it, I love its industrial design and long lasting build. Are you going to buy one?
Yes Britain has certainly seemed to start attacking its own people, like a dictatorship really. Though by buying items like this you support British jobs and this should hopefully last many many years.

@@Chris-techgamesfood It is, I bought a good Dualit two slice in red for £10 last month, works perfectly.
@@Benzyl wow that’s one hell of a deal! I like to buy something a bit more expensive if it’s worth it and can then be repaired rather than binned

See I have toast daily, I don’t think I could’ve waited! I’d have had to have paid full price!

I’m glad it’s working well for you, they’re nice bits of kit and in theory can last forever as long as you can get the parts.
Did the timer and the heating element fail in the first year. Hi from Brisbane Australia

I’m glad you’ve been able to keep it going so long! So people say these are a waste of money and too expensive but I think you get what you pay for!
How is the toaster now you've owned it for a while?
Hi! It’s still great, no signs of wear or anything.
How is Gen 2 different than Gen 1? Thanks.

When you changed the side of the toast did you put it back to two minutes or just keep going. Thanks from Brisbane Australia

Are you going to buy one?
What's it like with crumpets, hot cross buns etc?
As long as you use the bagel setting it’s fine.
The slots are big so it’s no issue at all.
Thanks! Good to know.@@Chris-techgamesfood
@eldrad142 no worries 😀
Very handsome, not sure it’s worth the price though
It’s fully repairable too though
Can you make an update after the 10 months? is it still going with no issues?
Yeah can do, it’s still going fine, although there’s some slight spotting on the paint which doesn’t bother me.
Too bad Britain has turned it's back on its own people. I'm boycotting anything made in Britain. Way overpriced for a simple toaster anyway.
