Installing a retrofit drain on a commercial roof

  • It is crucial to have a proper drain for a flat roof. If the drain was messed up by other roofers, then the second best thing to do is to install a retrofit drain.
A retrofit drain does narrow the diameter of the drainpipe because it is another pipe sliding into another.
We usually don't use the rubber fitting that comes with the drain because it narrows the drainpipe even further. The danger of doing that is if the drain would ever backup, then water would spill into the building.
Watch this video on how to install a retrofit drain after removing the old drain-pipe from the roof.

The basket ring ripped the pan off the layer below when you tighted it up because it was not flat. Torch down is 1920 technology.

The target pach grannual cap sheet over grannual sheet cannot seal so that is incorrect right there but you are a torch down specialist you already knew that right

He also constricted that drain with that rubber insert by at least 1/2 inch which means most likely a nice pond that will clog the strainer

Wth is this?? I've put these on before/I've always primed them and I slightly tighten the rubber seal so it won't fall off when going in the pipe which it goes in smoothly not like here then I tightened it ohh and I torch smooth over top then my granulated material

A few twists of tape around the joint between the Uflow drain adapter and the retrofit drain will help keep it in place

ok first off, dont use karnak adhesive use plastic cement. it will seal better and prevent fire.
in fact, Certa would probably be grabbing that torch real fast if they see it.
secondly you did not prime the bottom or top of metal and it WILL LEAK. YOU HAVE TO PRIME METAL WITH ASPHALT PRIMER NOT CHEAP ADHESIVE. now your adhesive will gunk up and crack allowing gaps for water on top of it will also separate from the metal. lastly, that adhesive you used on the metal will eat the finish on that metal and cause a, hypothetically speaking, 50 year metal finish to deteriorate in less than half the time causing rust and separation.
also, dear Lord you overheated the membrane but still failed to bleed it properly.
Also, rubber washer at end is plastic, but that's nitpicking terminology. not spec or code.

Only thing I can say it that the framing needed repaired so the drain fits flat and fully supported. Which you elected not to do.

This guy has absolutely no idea what he is doing. Nothing in view of the roof on this video is correct. He has actually created a back lap in the worst spot on the roof. His drain application only required a torch, app modified torch ply and some primer.

    You are the biggest mistake.
You should prime the drain first and then torch down 2 play.
But you like to put this stuff, because you don't have a clue how to do this job proper way.
