My stock speakers sounded fine with the stock head unit. Installed this and they sound terrible. Can’t find graphic eq to make it sound decent. Is it normal to have to upgrade your speakers too with this unit?

In many more modern vehicles, the factory radio is tuned so that it works with the factory speakers installed in the system. In many cases, there is very little high frequency sound and is typically heavy on midrange and bass. This heavy midrange is often passes as OK to the average customer ear. The factory speakers are protected by the radio and tuned so that they will not fail with some abuse. When compared to a real audio system, many factory systems made this way sound very poor. If you change one part of the system, like the in-dash receiver, the factory speakers limitations are exposed and they sound bad. If you change the speakers and not the factory receiver, again you expose the factory tuned system and it sounds poor. I recommend to upgrade the speakers and you'll be able to get more like the sound you want to hear. Replacing the speakers is relatively inexpensive way to greatly increase the sound quality. The other option is to go back to the factory radio. You changed the in-dash receiver for a reason, I believe you'll be much happier with new speakers. Deckerd Otto if a car as factory amp from the stock stereo system. Would that cause new speakers and new head unit keep it from sounding good? I just bought the avh1500nex an jvc speakers an they just sound terrible everything brand new out the box. I understand jvc is one of the lower level speakers but ive ran them in other cars an they have sounded better than what im getting out of them on my current vehicle. I have bought the correct amp wiring harness to connect the stereo. But im wondering if i just bypass they factory amp will it sound better.

The factory amplifier and factory speakers are designed to work together. The factory amplifier may have filters or other settings in place to protect the poor factory speakers. You removed the factory speakers and the aftermarket speakers you put in place are revealing the limitations of the factory system. I recommend wiring your speakers directly to the in-dash receiver and skipping past the factory amplifier completely. Or you might consider getting an aftermarket amplifier. There are many to choose from like the Pioneer GM-A4704 seen here: th-cam.com/video/fMhhj6MfnMI/w-d-xo.html or if you want more power and the option of a subwoofer, the Pioneer GM-D9705 seen here: th-cam.com/video/99Hfmc8QxVc/w-d-xo.html You can find more videos on Pioneer's TH-cam Channel here: th-cam.com/users/pioneerelectronics

Which is bass mid and high

Bass is typically the lower frequencies. 50Hz, 80Hz and 125Hz. At 125Hz you are starting to get near the Mid range. The Mids are typically 125Hz, 200Hz, 315Hz, 500Hz, 800Hz, 1.25kHz, and 2Khz. The Highs are typically 3.15kHz, 5kHz, 8kHz, and 12.5kHz. These are just guidelines. Depending upon how your speakers and crossovers are set up, you may find each section drifts a little higher in frequency or a little lower in frequency. A 13 band EQ is a much more powerful and precise adjustment tool than just a Bass, Mid, and Treble control. I wish it had an option to enable just bass, mid, and treble for casual customers like me. This is kind of confusing.
