In this video, I made an abstract painting on a 80x80cm canvas.
As paint, I used acrylic paint for the background and for the shadows.
I also used spray paint for the central part.
As tools, I used several types of brushes, stencils and thin masking tape.

John, sincerely thank you for sharing your art! I have been struggling with motivation and other stuff since my best friend died in april. But since finding your channel about 2-3 weeks ago, I have been watching several of your videos every day. Your art pieces as well as the sound and video editing on your videos is just amazing.
You inspired me to get back into canvas painting, and for the last week or so I have been having so much fun working on abstract pieces and learning/trying out new techniques.
So once again, than you for sharing your work. It made me find my happy place once again when it comes to my own art, and your work is truly inspiring and motivating.

Almost 3 years later I sold my first piece and working on 2nd commission thank you for showing us your beautiful work. Inspired me to find myself in painting! Watching this again (it’s without a doubt amongst my favourites) brought two things to mind. The first is the “what if’s?” What if the painting was finished after the liquids swipes (yellow, orange, red and purple)? If the tape had been pulled then,…? What if after the splatters? John’s ability to create layers of interest begs me to ask these questions because I think it would have been spectacular at several points - how does an artist decide the “when”. Which leads me to the second observation, the amount of work, the innate talent, the continual detailing proving once again that art has huge value both monetarily (the hours and material invested), and for the capability of the artist. It’s fascinating to watch a fellow artist and to recognize the dedication to their craft.

I loved watching you! I’m am going to start doing abstract painting. Your techniques and the various instruments you used had me saying ‘oh, I have that!’ Like the, I’ll call it the windshield cleaner, was genius to use. And I don’t need to buy it.
