    😍 The cheapest and best Global Data eSIM that I've used every day since 2017: bit.ly/3WJuQOd (stock up on data when they have regular 80% off sales - like, every month)
    [An arguably more user-friendly alternative for country-specific data is GetNomad: bit.ly/3kmNmOD ]

    When it comes to buying souvenirs, always consider how useful the item will be, whether for you or the receiver. Tablecloths, place mats, little bowls, earrings, local coffee etc are some of my favorite things. Every time i use them, I'm reminded of that particular trip.

    Love this! And I'm loving the new videos 😁 I found your blog a few years ago when I was itching to get out of the states. I've now been housesitting almost full time, with just a few gaps here and there, and it's been so rewarding, way beyond saving money. Getting the opportunity to spend time with animals and help people feel secure while they're away from their homes has made my traveling time feel cozier, more interesting, and a lot more grounded.

    • @NoraDunn

      Do you have pay your own airfare when you do that??

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MiaHessMusic Yes. It's the house-sitter's responsibility to get to and from the country/location where the house-sitting gig is. Beyond that, circumstances vary. Some homeowners will give you use of their car while they're away, which can be very handy.

    The only time I ever recall ordering room service was on a business trip in a fancy hotel in a major city, I was really tired from the traveling and workday, and most importantly my company was paying for it. I think it was ok but it was a long time ago. Otherwise, I eat out when traveling, or buy something from a supermarket and eat it in my room if short on time or really tired.

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think hotels are starting to nix room service now that people can just order anything they want (at a lower cost) with Uber Eats!

    Great tips. I have been doing the credit card thing for several years now. I plan to get a SIM card at the airport when I arrive in LIS next month. I always bring a water bottle along. I just applied for a No F/X card. F/X fees suck! I will disagree a little bit on Uber/Taxi vs. Public Transit. I found on a previous trip to Portugal that the taxis are VERY reasonable and in one instance was cheaper than Public Transit. Plus when it comes to getting to/from the airport, I prefer the convenience of a taxi - we don't have to schlep luggage into a bus, we don't have to figure out how to get from wherever the bus stop is to the hotel. One time, using the taxi to get to Belem, the driver even gave us a bit of an impromptu tour - pointing out this and that along the way.

    How do you all feel about hotels? Checking over the ones for Miami Beach. I see many in the Miami Beach area and they don't seem to be far from each other. I have one now booked for 600 but see others that appear to be within walking distance from that one which are about 100 dollars cheaper. Being a solo traveler I'm not to picky.

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As you've discovered, hotels run the gamut - in price and amenities! I think hotels are great, but they can be expensive. The trick is to figure out what's most important to you - ie: location, amenities, etc - and find a place that has what you need for the best price.
      I personally like using Booking to find hotels: www.booking.com/index.html?aid=1318377

    I am living on a small budget being a seller on Etsy. I just can't see how I would get to be spending $4000 in 3 months that is the minimum on these cards. I just don't spend that much. But I have to go to Sweden from the U.S at least once a year to see my family with my husband. We always search for the cheapest economy tickets on places like Expedia. Now we are getting tired of traveling in economy. But Business class seems out of reach for us.

    • @NoraDunn

      I only get a credit card with a hefty spend requirement like this when I have a large planned expense. I also charge absolutely everything to the card.

    How about using Wi-Fi and calling through the Internet?

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! WhatsApp is actually the best way to stay in touch with people locally and internationally. You can do messages, audio calls, and video calls. In some parts of the world it's what people use all the time - in lieu of a "traditional" phone number.

    do you have a video for long term travel accommodations? I am going to Mexico for a month, then Panama. Flying mostly on my accumulated sky miles. But finding a place to stay in Panama has been a challenge. Everyone thinks 50 dollars a night is great, but for a long term stay, not really. Hostels are readily available, but are the reviews legit? how to see if it will be what is advertised. I have never done any of the 'free travel' hacks, but I am willing.

    What is the cost when you try to accumulate the miles point? For instance 1 point for $1 so if one need 90,000 point to fly business long haul, that would be expensive

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  ปีที่แล้ว

      The big accumulation happens when you apply for credit cards that have sign-up bonuses.
      Also, you're not buying the points, you earn the points by spending money on the card that you would normally spend by charging your normal expenses to the card.
