You have struggled into existence and are now slipping silently out of it. This is everyone's experience. Every. Single. One. The specifics hardly matter...

What was once before you, an exciting and mysterious future, is now behind you. Lived, understood, disappointing.

This song feels like a last hug from someone to comfort you before you’re gone. I think it’s really fitting that it gets played right before Caden finally dies. It’s a depressing movie, sure. But I don’t think Synecdoche, New York is about showing you the miseries of life. Instead, I think what it’s trying to do is give you comfort and show you how to get by when faced with the miseries of life.

Ive always seen it as a cautionary tale of what happens when you spend your whole life worried about yourself and not other people, choosing rather to focus on your legacy instead of sitting back and accepting the shittiness of life and moving on and being happy

    • @lukedoyle2770
      @lukedoyle2770 ปีที่แล้ว +8

What i’ve always taken from Synecdoche is that you aren’t alone in your loneliness, really you’re far from it. Life being so quickly passing and the fact the only person we can truly understand is ourselves is depressing, but like it’s said in the film, this is everyone’s experience. And the fact we share this with everyone is very comforting

"Caden..." The way Sammy calls him before he kills himself and how broken yet playful he says goodbye just breaks my heart.

There you are, here, reading comments, living, breathing, experiencing, having memories, you are listening to this song that makes you feel... well relieved, like you finally understood something, a piece of you or maybe a memory that reminded you how beautiful it is to live at the same time that it is terrible.
You, whoever is reading this comment, I want to tell you that you are not alone in your experiences, your pain, your suffering, your stress, we are humans we suffer together, live together, die together, thats what makes humanity a work of art, thats why I love humanity for everything it is, for everything it was, for everything it will be, I just wanted to remind everyone with this little meaningless comment, that the human condition is a strange concept, we are strange.
Remember yourself for everything you are
Remember yourself for everything you were.
Remember yourself for everything you will be.
    What are you waiting for?
Be free and forget this comment like we always do...

It's comments like this that give me hope. They're like little tokens of love and gratitude echoing throughout cyberspace that catch the eye of the passerby. The thing that is bittersweet, is that these thoughtfully crafted messages parceled with care may never be read by more than one person or even fall upon deaf ears. Yet, even if one person takes the time to read it and feel it brighten the gloominess of their life, it is enough. Though our lives are colored by tragedy, anxiety, suffering and endless possibilities masked in a theater of doubt, we have one another, and that is enough. Will we recall on our deathbeds job promotions, taxes, bonuses or simple possessions? Or will we remember places, experiences, adventures and those we share this strange dance of existence with? In this world of technology, industrialization and modernity we all feel so remote from one another, as if there are walls between us. As if we are encaged by endless barrages of mediocrity and avarice and it seems that there is no room for introspection or compassion. We feel impossible to reach and to convey meaning. Yet, similarly through the power of the same medium we can reach each other through tiny fragments of love and understanding. We understand that we are not so different or peculiar after all. All our lives engender tragedy, loss and suffering. That is the human condition and the beginning of truth of Buddhism: life is suffering. However, through this seemingly meaningless pain we can glean insight and truly rejoice knowing that we are connected so beautifully.

This film and everything about it just breaks me. Totally destroys and annhiliates every layer of my carefully constructed defensive mechanism I've spent my entire life building. It doesn't mean anything, maybe I should just abandon it all together and accept the truth for what it is. Our end is universal. But why does it have to be SO FUCKING SAD. Why can't the end of this soundtrack, and the end for us, be just a little more... optimistic.
I don't know what to focus on in life. I'm 20 and I've made one worthwhile relationship excluding my parents. I don't know where to turn and what to look at. I'm running constantly with no end in sight and just like this song I'm afraid everything will end far too abruptly. I'm sorry.. I just can't help but get so melodramatic when listening to the soundtracks of this movie. It's the only piece of cinema (or literature or at for that matter) that penetrates me so much.
Peace and love to every single one of you incredible creatures reading this.

It "destroys and annhiliates every layer of my carefully constructed defensive mechanism" almost as if it has... struggled into existence, and is now silently slipping out of it?

Yes!! I'm a very optimistic person and definitely see how this whole idea should be more optimistic. However, the way it is will forever resonate with me for some reason. Just a gorgeous movie and soundtrack and just idea in general. Glad to hear someone else got as much out of it. Keep doing what your doing!

The most beautiful thing I've heard in recent memory, perhaps it will still be in the future. Our lives are meant to be lived. Despite how painful the next step is, or how much you regret letting go of someone, something. No matter how shitty it turns out compared to what you dreamed it to be, the waves of time will crash down on you until your final breath. Just keep going, keep living, keep finding beauty in things. Don't worry, don't fret, it's okay to be hurt, okay to be lost. Just live, just live.

When hope and misery is satisfied and the last gulp of saliva is swallowed revealing that it was such a long companion in your little life and when your subtle breath is appreciated for what it gave as people and events in time. When hope and misery become one and an unjustified death takes place.
Then, what this piece gives you will be given to you as an unjustified and unwanted peace forever and ever.

The chords half way through take on the characteristics of the sort of heavenly tones we expect to come at the beginning of the creation (childhood perhaps) myth, but blended with the heavy misery of the lower chords it becomes final.
