A fundamental omission here is that pressure is directly related to temperature. To check static pressure, that is, with the engine off, you need to take proper account of the ambient temperature (outside temp or garage temp etc). The engine should be off for several hours to cool and to allow the pressure to equalise between the high and low side of the AC system. Then connect your guage and for 20C ambient temperature the pressure should be 65-70psi, for 25C the pressure should be 80-85psi, for 30C it should be 95-100psi.

This is a demonstration on how to overcharge an AC system, by ignoring the output temp and topping off anyway.
If an AC blows cold no further work is needed.

Without connecting gauges or taking your car to the garage run the A/C for about 10-15 minutes. Open the bonnet and check the LP pipe (the large diameter pipe) that’s returning gas back to the compressor is sweating. This usually means the AC is working properly.
Also make sure you use the AC at least once a month to keep all seals lubricated with refrigerant oil that’s in the system.

ive used these disposable kits before (they used to be like £7 for the hose and used to get 4 cans of r134 substitute for £15 lol) i only use them when the aircon clutch doesnt engage as theres a sensor that wont allow the clutch to kick in if too low , just top it up until the clutch kicks in and stop filling - dont even need to use the gauge tbh just stop filling one clutch clicks in.

Make sure the hose you are using clicks securely in place on the low pressure port. If you don't hear a distinct click it may not be connected properly or you may have a faulty hose. I wasted a can of gas a couple of month back in June as the hose kept popping off. Bought a new hose and kept going until I heard a distinct click and this time all worked

      @bigdogg7447 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Exactly correct @andrew barclay. So many mistakes made. The compressor would be trying to pump liquid. R134a is no way environmentally friendly either. You are adding that type of refrigerant as a liquid (r134a fractionates), and you tried to remove the excess refrigerant as a vapour. Good tip….take your car to someone that knows what they are doing!

Somewhere on the engine frame should be a chart telling you by weight how much gas you should fill. Plus amount of oil for lubrication. Much better to remove all the gas with a vacuum pump and then fill by weight, put can on kitchen scales while filling. Small car like that probably only holds a can for the entire system. better to replace all gas than mix with old.!

This is not a DIY or Halfords job imo.
Can a pressure gauge be used as an effective substitute for a scale? Does every car operate at the same pressure? Can we tell if there is a leak in the system? How do we know if there is enough pag oil in the system? No UV dye is being added.
Not to mention the safety risk. Should be wearing goggles & thick rubber gloves.

Firstly, 134a is NOT environmentally friendly, it is better than the older refrigerants but still should not be released into the atmosphere. Secondly, how cold do you want your aircon to be? 9.5 degrees is easily cold enough any colder and it would start to freeze in the evaporator.

I have used one of those kits recently, the gauge works correctly if you turn the can upright and open the valve. Do not drain the whole content all at once, check the level of refrigerant 3-4 times and stop when needle reaches 90% of the blue region which that indicates the level is correct without overfilling the system and not being required to release gas into atmosphere. Gloves and safety glasses must be worn.

There is far more to AC system refills then a DIY kit and a gauge. I had a specialist carry out an inspection on the car and found that the condenser was on its last legs.
The moral of the story is: hire a professional to inspect and refill the system to prevent your car from more expensive repairs. I do not recommend trying this at home!

It leaks out into the atmosphere over time that bit just did it quick
I think the gas in this video is an alternative to the original type and is less harmful
You can get cans that have a valve so you can remove the gas bottle from the nozzle and reuse it later on and this type of bottle when empty can be saved and used as a catchment bottle if you over fill
Just put it on like you do to fill and when you press the trigger the empty bottle will fill up a little and take the System pressure down

This is the worst advice I have ever seen... you may be able to detect an extreme shortage of gas on the low side of the AC with a gauge. But, the amount of gas in the system is measured in grams, not PSI, you are meant to refill the system with the specified weight of refrigerant. If the system is empty then fill with the manufacturers specified amount of refrigerant, if there is already some in the system, never just add another can... it's very hard to determine how much using low side gauge will be subject to over-filling. Good luck.

I would not be making an honest decent living if it was not for manufacturing industries producing goods such as this!
Please do not place any product with leak stop in your system! It is designed to fill holes (Temporarily)! Leak stop will restrict and potentially damage your A/C system! If you embark on this procedure please check the can!
If I get any wind of anything such as leak stop being utilised (Chalky or gooey substance at the service couplers) my equipment will not even go on the vehicle!
Inverting the can in this video with engine running is liquid charging which is absolutely screaming out for big problems! A BIG NO! NO!…
    You will flood the compressor(Slugging)!
A compressor will not compress liquid!
I have seen compressors launched across the driveway due to this practice!
    Use due diligence and research!
Oh!…Don’t get caught out expelling any Refrigerant gases in to the atmosphere!
Prison time or a hefty fine! F-Gas laws are in place for a reason!
The A/C system requires full evacuation of the contents…
Pressure testing prior to recharging (You are attempting a recharge for a reason I assume)?…
At least a 30 minute vacuum of the system to remove all moisture..
    New lubricant (Leak dye etc)…
Once all checks are complete then a system recharge can be attempted…
Ensuring all system pressures and components (Compressor etc) are satisfactory…
System checked post recharge and signed off!
