it's great to see you posting videos again after a sadly long 2 year hiatus. these videos have been such a great resource for learning tatum's style and tricks and watching a reincarnation of him up close is such a great privilege. thank you very much, and please keep posting videos!
Well Roger, this is the first time that I heard you play Liza "a la Tatum!" There is no doubt in my mind that the "mantle" has been bestowed to you. Nobody I have ever seen or heard comes this close. No, I do not believe in reincarnation, but if I did, I would say you were from Toledo!
Can't thank you enough for sharing your many years of hard work and devoted study. You are AWESOME!!! I hope you read his Biography Too Marvelous for Words!
Wow! Great playing sir! I love that song - and play it myself on piano but not even close to your talent! I thought MY version was a handful until I heard yours....😃
Hi Roger, Also a big fan of yours. Can you give some details about the piano. Make, model, year, work done to it, etc etc. Its a gem.. sounds great.. I'm sort of a collector of interesting pianos As well as a pianist.. I'm learning the Rach #3. Its a big project.
If you've seen all of Roger's videos by now, you probably know the answer to this, but just in case you haven't, he goes into great detail about this near the end of the 'jazz left hand study (swing bass)' video.
Hi Roger, I am a big fan of yours and I have found your Art Tatum lesson videos very useful. I am currently learning Yesterdays from your faithful transcription and it is going well. I am commenting to point out what I think is a small issue in this transcription. At roughly 4:29 there is this diatonic descending octave passage. I believe what Art really played was a Fats Waller trick where the left hand would walk the octaves down on the beat, and the right hand would hit the top note of those octaves on the off beat. You can see Fats do this in the "I've Got My Fingers Crossed" video. Let me know if you agree or not and I will stay tuned for any future videos of yours. Please visit my channel if you happen to have time. -Dylan
Dylan, Thanks for the comment.I am glad the video's are helpful.I will check out yours as well! Yes, you may be right about the passage at 4:29.Was not familiar with the Waller trick. Art did borrow from him. The problem is my copy was in such poor fidelity I could not discern all the notes.Several passages i had to guess at.Made mistakes in performance as well. Thanks again for your comment.

Is that transcription available? This is my favorite Tatum recording and was really my introduction to jazz!
I am sorry I do not have it all written out. Sometimes it is harder to write the notes down accurately than to transcribe them.
