My favorite ReRes are the Tamiya SRBs, especially the Sand Scorcher - I bought 2 of them the day, they entered the door of my local hobby shop
I think, that’s the most iconic RC Car ever, that everyone knows, who was/or is interested in RC Cars right from the late 70th till today

I built a Kyosho Optima (non turbo, I like the original optimas looks more). The quality is amazing. I added the sway bars from the optima turbo and the swing arms from the lazer zx-5 and it's 80's perfection!

Glad I listened to you and snaffled a CAT before they were sold out. Still haven't opened the box but there are other kits still not opened. I would loved to have bought 2 but I'm not going to be "That Guy"

For me its my rere bruiser such a lovey kit to put to gather followed by my rere Avanti. LOVE the video Gavin.
Just got myself a Kyosho Javelin. It was a compromise, because the build seems simpler than the Optima (less body-painting). And since I have gotten a brushless setup for it, I think it will cool the esc better than the Optima (will have to mount the esc where the driver goes, since it is a bit (a couple of mm) to big for the traditional esc placement). As for my favorite, as far as looks go, I think it is the Kyosho Tomahawk. I am a bit of a sucker for lights (even faux lights) on top of were the drivers sit, though Iike the placement of the faux lights on the Tamiya Hotshot kit better.
But this time it was the Javelin I got. I have had a Kyosho Scorpion XL (I think it was called that) before that I liked to race. But parts were nowhere to be found for that car at the time, so I sold it. The Kyosho Javelin will be driven mostly for a bit of fun, not any hardcore racing. I like the Kyosho Scorpion kit also, especially the batteri placement. But having a Traxxas Bandit, which still are a good racing platform, for these kinds of vehicles, a Kyosho Scorpion, or Tomahawk will probably be more of a shelf-queen, than a vehicle I use.
The turbo was my dream car as a youngster. Love it, gorgeous rig.
I agree with everything on your list! I'm a huge fan of the Kyosho Circuit 1000 buggies so if it were my list I would have included the Tomahawk. It was my favorite growing up. It was the illusive one that I wasn't able to own until I was an adult. But my God did I ever want one when I was 15 years old. Great video and definitely a great top 6!
I have almost finished building my Turbo Optima rere... it is beautiful. And yes, I bought it because of being introduced in this channel, just didnt know about this rere before that. I dont think all is done so perfectly, but it is so beautiful and seriously fast.
I have a re released Kyosho Javelin and put a 7.5 turn competition motor in it. Have fun with your Turbo Optima!

I’ve been buying old school cars. I scored a old Marui Hunter. Found all parts and new oem tires. Most people have never heard of this car. It discontinued in 1984. It took me 2 years of searching to find one and all the parts. It was the cheapest car at the time. Now there very rare.
Think a black and gold shell would look awesome for the optima
Hi!! No Egress? How can this be? Myself I absolutely LOVE the Boomerang! I don’t know why but that and the hotshot are pure 80’s magic!! I could only afford and worked hard for a grasshopper and all the rich kids had the hotshots and bigwigs etc! Kyosho was waaayy outta my league but that turbo optima is the only one I would buy right now from them. Great list!!
Glaring omission of the Egress! The most stunning car ever made in my opinion.
I agree. I managed to get one $200 USD on sale about 2 years ago before the prices blew up. It's still sitting there new in-box. I'm too scared to build it!

It is pretty but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the prettiest one ever made is the one I have. I got a completely tricked out re-release javelin with nothing but black and silver parts. I replaced all the main ones with graphite and took a long time getting titanium screws and matching them with black shocks black roll cage and wing and all black anodized aluminum that I can find.. the black roll cage and wings especially along with all the chassis parts looks beautiful. It is a re-release and I made it to race but it's so pretty I kind of don't want to do it. I have my tricked out mint condition original 1987 javelin which was my first car. It's probably worth three grand because it had every hop-up part you could ever get back then and there's not a scratch on it and all original. You couldn't even put one of the new engines in those old cars because they'll snap the belt within three seconds I know I tried it on an old optimum mid. I re-up the belt with the new one and sold that car for $2,500 because it was mint condition turbo optimum midse

These take me back. Had an optima which I raced an much modified then got a Schumacher cat
I know they are common but without the Hornet re-re half of these wouldn’t exist.
So that’s my no.1 but egress and Avante are my other favourites
Number 1 for me was the re-release of the Tamiya Rough Rider (i.e. Racing Buggy), my first car I purchase back in 1981 for a little over $100.
I was really pleasantly surprised by the rerelease Tomahawk. I thought it was just a Turbo Scorpion with a new bodyshell so I put off buying one for ages. But it’s lighter, lower and goes together really well. With the same spec motor and ESC as the TS it’s easily faster and more agile although I’ve just finished building it and making sure all the parts are tight so I’ve yet to get a fine day where I can strap the GPS speedo to it and give it a proper blast.
Yeah the kyosho turbo optima is absolutely stunning and well deserved to be your no1 but the avante (including the black) has to be my second one if not joint no1 with the turbo optima!

Just ordered a Tamiya VQS. I think the price was decent. I’m hooked on R/C cars again after 30+ years.

6 out of 6 Gav! Totally agree. I don’t have a RC10, but it is a classic. I don’t have the Evo, but it’s a maybe I will with the pricing being less than projected from earlier info.
Honourable mention mmm nah. I was trying to look and get inspiration from the wall of wallet pain behind you and it’s a tough choice. So I do respect your VQS choice, but I’m just not a fanboy 👍🤓🇦🇺
Just got a Javelin. It’s the only rere I have wanted so I will say the Kyosho Javelin. Though might change if they rere the Optima Mid.
Let’s hope so, we all want the Mid. That would go in the top 6 that’s for sure.

Nice Gav I have the re re optima just waiting on the 17.5t brushless motor, I gotta say having recently built the Terra Scorcher re re it's impressive it is faster for me on the track than my Egress and about the same times on average as my Optima (vintage racing is strictly silver can motors). The Terra Scorcher is the last of the Hot Shot cars and it is really chalk and cheese between them I find my Egress too be a beautiful looking car but it is not the goods on the track like the Optima, Terra Scorcher and wait for it Boomerang (it is soo light it hole shots the first corner in races every time).
I race these cars and I know some of them look so good but it's power too weight that counts with good handling and any 80s FWD can be made to handle well, just putting modern tyres on a Boomerang makes an amazing difference.
I don't have a Top Force or an Evolution but I race against them once a month and they are no quicker than any of my cars mentioned I honestly think the carbon fibre is weaker and has more flex than a bath tub plastic but it looks cool, but I will get an Evo this year.

Tamiya Rough Rider aka Buggy Champ tops my list... It was my first "real" RC car back in the day and I sold my original, fortunately there was a re-release and I snagged one up immediately.

Hi, The kit comes with the tyre stickers included. If you are going to get a Kyosho Turbo Optima (go for it, epic) one thing you can add that really improves the look is to get the top plate in carbon. The quality of the kit is so good, the deck should have been carbon from the factory. Shop around for the best deal.

Hopefully it will not come off after the 1st race 🤣 yes I think I will go for Turbo Optima as I am trying to buy my 1st vintage buggy and wants a good looking one, good quality, a bit rare but also can race (for fun). Turbo Optima with a brushless seems to be a good fit, even though I have been hesitating with the recent release of the Tamiya Wild One Blockhead which has a great look and probably more rare/collector in a few years…

I wish they would make a re release of the Porsche 959 for a car,
And the juggernaut for a truck. Two of the hardest ones to find, and always stupid expensive.

Definitely waiting on the Top Force EVO I’ve always wanted one and know the chassis well. I’m still actively racing RC so I’ve gotta balance what I’m spending on stuff for a race weekend in the various RC’s I race vs stuff for my collection and other RC stuff I run for fun one thing about COVID19 and no racing last year I ended up adding a lot of things I otherwise wouldn’t have that are on the fun side of RC I’m still waiting for Kyosho to re-release the Optima Mid that’s probably the one I’ve got my🤞for the most
Let's hope we see the Mid from Kyosho soon. I really want a rere like so many others.
For me it was the rerelease of the rough rider i bought one as it brought back lots or memories, although i had the ford ranger back in the day as it had just come out at the time

I’ve never been a big fan of the on road cars and the only rally car that I’m fond of is unfortunately the Tamiya Celica GRB.

I have to agree on the Kyosho rere's, they are next level quality. Looks like Hirobo might be putting a revised version of the zerda into production.

My son and I have some RCs that we race for outdoor off-road, we have crawlers, and a couple bashers, and I have airplanes...
Looking to possibly get a vintage-ish RC car or just something for fun and to display to start conversations... something that would be relatively fun on a reasonable brushless, but not crazy fast break it type power, currently available, etc... and without spending a huge amount on one model... either an onroad car or something off-road and multi-purpose...
Would love to have a Kyosho Buggy or a re-release RC10, but for now thinking maybe a tamiya TT of some sort, or a buggy with reasonably nice performance...
Can you give a few suggestions, like if you had to pick say 5 cool RC kits that can be bought currently, and have only those, which would they be? Something to actually use from time to time, and enjoy with say 17.5t brushless, but not bash it to death.

Kyosho Turbo Optima, Soon to be released Kyosho Mid. XV-01 or the new XV-02 Pro thats coming out. Not that I would call them vintage but fun road rally car chassis. If budget is limited a TT02R chassis car or the M-08
Gavin, my top 10 re re's are tamiya Avante,Terra Scorcher, Egress, Vanquish, hot shot and thundershot Kyosho turbo optima, tomahawk, turbo scorpion, and the Fantom.... Which sucks cuz I don't have a Fantom. .... So I'll add the wild Willy 2000. Because that's one of tamaya's first rere's technically way back in 99 or 2000.... So tomorrow's been doing reissues for 20 years now going on 21
Great stuff! So, Top Force is comming, but is the Avante 2011 comming again? And what about the Egress, it states on Tamiyas blog that it will be produced again soon!
My personal favourite car is the Team Losi XX4, it was originally released in 1997. Losi rereleased the XX4 Worlds Edition in 2005.
So in 85/86 here in the US, the only Tamiya cars I knew about were the Grasshopper, Hornet and Frog, I never heard of the Avante and I was friends with guys who owned hobby shops. Wonder if it's a US/europian thing?
The kyosho progress and Rocky also had the chain drive that rubbed on the chassis and battery. Kyosho were good at this.
I personally think the Optima is one of the most beautiful RC cars ever!

Have you had a look at the team durango line of cars they are discontinued now but are very impressive in engineering and the tuneability.
6 is not enough, but you have to set a number.

This hobby is rabbit hole. You have the new models out each year from different companies and throw in the re release, you'll need a place to house 100+ models within a few short years.
Nothing would or could beat the rere of a Marui Shogun.

My first RC car was the Turbo Optima in 1987, so you can guess what my favorite is.
My first 4 wheel drive kit buggy was a second hand xracer optima and it beat all of my friends buggy even though I had a silver can and my bro had a 2 wheel drive with a technigold motor.

Top Force Evo is already sold out across the world at the usual online stores. It was originally listed for pre-order at RC Mart before being shown as sold out 2 days later.
We will see a second batch later in the year for sure.

I'm a big 959 fan but who knows if we will ever get that rere.
Could you do a run comparison to these re-relese cars vs the new way cheeper wltoys type cars of the same scale size. So we can see what $500+ looks like compared to $150. My money is on the wltoys, more bang for the buck, probably faster out of the box, and more durable in crashes, cheeper spares.
Yep more content like this will be coming to the channel as the weather improves in the UK.

My favourite rerelease would have to be the bigwig as i simply love the car but I’ve not been able to find a boxed one available in the uk

They should come back with the king Blackfoot that truck was just like the super Blackfoot a lot of fun add more fun with those 2 trucks than I did with any other RC truck or car I had tons of fun with those 2 cars I wish they would come back out with the king Blackfoot please comment back if you ever had one of these Trucks thank you for this video

I lusted over the avante as an 8 year old kid when it was released. I ended up with a grasshopper 2 super g. My parents must have hated me :'( 🤣😂
Sand Scorcher and Rough Rider; couldn't afford as a kid in the 80s but have them now!

Why nikko don't make re releases?
Yeah, they should make a re release of the Toyota Hilux, with stick radio and all. I have the original, which I intend to repair, or if need be, upgrade to newer electronics, but a re release of that would be excellent.

I do agree to the first and second place - have both on order - I do not agree to place 6 for the Avante... thats to far behind in my opinion...

The Egress rere came along after the Avante 2011 rere and because of it to some extent. I agree the Egress is a better drive than the Avante but on looks I think it's 50/50 personal choice.

Its far away from fine. There are so many rc cars he just dont know or is considering. Like the Thunder Tiger Challenger 83 (I dont know if it was a kit) but limiting worlds best kits just to 1:10 scale then you cant say they are worlds best.

They aren't vintage, they are likely to break easy (just like when you were a kid), they cost almost as much as a pro car but sure wouldn't handle like one...?
