Watched a ScreenX movie for the first time and it just feels like a gimmick tbh. It's not used throughout the entire movie and there's a delay on the side screens that causes a flicker during every cut scene. A seemless curved screen with cameras in sync would be a better implementation of the idea.

Its pointless if its not used throughout the movie. It would constantly disturb your experience of the story. Damn. Thanks for sharing

What would be great if we would get a screen that they used to shoot the mandalorian curves all around you and you feel like you are in the movie. Even if its just enviromental staff and nothing happening there it would feel like VR almost

I agree, most of a persons focus is on one screen at the front so I feel like Screen X doesn’t work. Also I went to a screening of Godzilla King of monsters and it just looked blurry .

I just watched Top Gun Maverick on Screen X and was absolutely blown away! In the flight scenes in particular the side screens show what you would expect to see in the periphery of your vision so it genuinely felt like you were sitting in the cockpit with Mr Cruise. It brought a huge smile to my face when I saw it for the first time. 😁 I would compare it to driving a car, although you look straight ahead out of the windscreen, the fact that you have side windows makes you feel present as opposed to merely observing.

I went to a screening of "Maze Runner" in 2014 that was presented in ScreenX. The theater was testing the new format. It took some time getting used-to NOT looking to the sides. The peripheral action was all incidental to what was happening on the front-center screen. It was more immersive, but a key drawback for me was the sound system was not properly designed or configured to enhance the effect. Overall, it was a slight improvement to the moviegoing experience, but without better sound it wasn't dramatically different.

Screen X is not the first multi projector system as stated here. The original Cinerama system used three synchronised projectors on a curved screen. That system died a death also. Probably the best known movie to use the system was How The West Was Won. When seen on TV nowadays there are bends in the scene where the three cameras and projectors joined.

@@deecee784 I found this about MacKenna’s Gold on IMDB:
This movie was originally planned to be shown in single lens Cinerama with reserved seat roadshow engagements, but Columbia executives changed their minds and pulled the plug on that idea. This movie was drastically cut down from nearly three hours plus an intermission, to just over two hours. Although most of the movie was photographed on 65mm stock, to save a buck, a handful of scenes were filmed in 35mm anamorphic and then optically blown-up with disastrous results. The blown-up scenes are exceedingly grainy and have bad color.

@@Ian-Steele I was 12 or 13 years old when I saw it when we were visiting relatives in L.A. who were in the film industry so my recollections are well over 50 years old.
The screen was something like a 60 or 90 degree wrap that was curved and special built.
A man came out on the stage in front of the screen and talked for about five minutes about how happy he was to see all of us, and he was proud to have us all experience the future of cinema.
During the scene where the canyon fell into itself the effect was truly spectacular.
A few weeks later we got back home and I waited for the "future of cinema" to catch up with us.
      It didn't.
Years later I was in either Disneyland or Disney world and saw their travelouge documentary of America in the format where you stood through it an could see where you were going, either sides of you and where you had been.

Hmmm, why not just install a bigger curved screen to about 75% of the wrap around. That way, your peripheral vision does feel weird. To me, I think a proper digital picture and great sound is all we need. Which brings me to another point; that is, some of these cinemas need to change the projection bulbs on time. It makes no sense having to take Jack Sparrow's monocular to see what the hell is going on!

Without a load of directors supporting this I think this was a bad investment. Many don't want to release IMAX versions of films for the home market so 2 extra screen versions for cinemas I'm guessing will hack them off big time and it'll be outsourced by the studio which means it's a marketing motivated addition.

We got a free upgrade to ScreenX for Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and found it interesting but kind of gimmicky. Glad to have tried out the format --- actually think everyone should try new formats once ..... if only to cross something off their list. My wife found it slightly annoying because she kept on moving her head around all the time to concentrate on what was happening on all three screens. After 10 or 15 minutes I just kept watching the main screen and was happy with that. I'd pay a buck or two maybe for ScreenX but not seven extra.
Next week we are going to be seeing Top Gun Maverick in the theatre, and will be paying the $7 upgrade price per ticket in the IMAX format.

I saw a ScreenX movie and thought it was just silly and distracting, the movie I saw didn't have it on for all the scenes, so it's noticeable when it starts and stops showing on the side walls (wouldn't call them screens). I doubt they actually filmed the movie in such a large / wide format, so the side view is basically atmospheric and doesn't really give you more information or anything you really NEED to look at, It's just distracting, maybe it's better if it was on the whole time, or just design a theatre properly with a larger wide screen, and only when the movie was filmed with that in mind, but then on regular Screens and TVs, you're going to sacrifice a lot of the video, so yeah it's just a bad idea. We already have larger format such as IMAX, which is an established standard now.

I watched Argyle in Screen X. The side footage was not through the whole film. Frankly when it was, beyond it being cool, it was ultimately distracting. Not to mention the emergency exit signs and doors cutting into the side screens. In general, if the film's director didn't create the images on the side walls it's a gimmick. In time, I can imagine filmmakers learning how to use this style of screening to their advantage. For now, I don't think it helps tell the story. It's a distraction.

But you have to sit at the back to view the whole screen

I think having 3 screens is super distracting I rather have one big screen that’s super crisp & clear with sound that can shake your chair 😉

Or "Sensurround" where a huge subwoofer would shake the whole building and make the building structurally unsound 😂😂

Your country did you a favour. Screen X ruins the suspense of films. Especially horror and thriller films
