The Testament of Solomon - The Origins of Solomonic Magic, Occultism & Demonology

  • Solomon is known for his legendary control over demons - but what is the origins of this lore? Composed in the first few centuries of the common era, The Testament of Solomon is part legendary biography, part demonological catalog and part proto-grimoire. In this episode, I explore the Testament and it's elaborate demonology but also the transition from the more legendary aspect of the text into the more practical occult form of demon conjuring that serves as the foundation for Solomonic Magic and Occultism generally but also the infamous Lesser Key of Solomon more specifically.

Hey #Esoterica How peculiarly odd to have this video immediately pop up seconds after watching audioversion of Soloman"s ordeal with these demons. Then I recall that in your absinthe, that it was my intention previously to support your work monetarily which I do so appreciate and no amount of so called money being viewed customarily could equate to the value of such regardless of these view knowing money not a possession I can hold onto due to my mundane cost of living tho which are not extravagrant realize all must pay for if only be to keep lights burning, ehmen! If by chance this being only a custom which binds me alone, it is one which I find difficult to live without... and strange as this may be.... it is this darkness in which a kind of freedom can be found, ehmen!!! #biskit911

Growing up in Christian Pentecostal church, I always had great interest in Solomon. Even in prayer I would ask for wisdom like Solomon. Unfortunately the church was never able or willing to elaborate about his life. Most of my experience in church was about shutting up and obeying blindly… I’m glad I stumbled on this channel today.

I support this. I think it would be fascinating to hear about the 72 demons (or less, if there's limited time) in Ars Goetia and what they were originally in their respective religions. Ie, Astaroth being a big deal demon, but is really a corruption from Babylonian goddess Astarte or Ishtar. I don't think all demons were old gods turned into malcreations, but a deep dive into the ones that were would be cool. Anyways, thanks!

    • @Alienami
      @Alienami 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@dgraykage231 In my research, only insanely long lived mortal energy beings that the Bible calls The Watchers, and Quran call The Djinn and both books originally had a book on these beings.
Greeks call anything not a human or god a daemon, including beings like The Watchers. They are globally said to dislike Iron and or Silver.
They list their astrological sign as a way to talk about what planet they or their people are from.
They are also kown as Fairies, Trolls, Elves, Okami, shadow people, or today as Aliens, lots of names.. yet so much overlap in similarities.
They are often globally largely considered as helping or even founding the Human Civilization and teaching us everything fom makeup to farming and laws.
Demons are a weird and complicated topic with overlap and confusion with other energy beings. If angels are more code and mental based and made, demons are more emotion and a different and opposite energy in them.
Whereas The Watchers evolved before matter in the universe even cooled down and why they exist all over the universe and use astrological signs to tell humans where they are from... these beings exist in a way between the layer between us and the gods.

demons only remain consistent within Christianity or pre-Christianity Judaism (as they are essentially the same thing)
the reason for this is that they present themselves differently throughout history, but they always present themselves as they are when confronted with an exorcism (which can only be performed by a catholic priest).

101 For when a messenger from Allah came to them confirming what they had, a group of those who were given the Scripture threw the Scripture of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know,102 and they followed what the devils read during the reign of Solomon. But never did Solomon deny ; rather it was the Satans who denied, teaching people sorcery and what was sent down in Babylon to the two angels Harut and Marut. And they do not teach anybody until they say, “We are but a means of trial, so do not deny (faith).” Even so, they learn from them the means to cause separation between a man and his spouse-but never could they harm anyone except by Allah's leave. And they learn what would harm them and not benefit them. Yet they did know that whoever purchased it would have no share in the Hereafter. So indeed, how miserable is what they sold themselves for, if they only knew!103 And had they attained faith and been mindful (of God), then surely a requital from Allah would have been better, if they only knew.[ Surah : Al-Baqarah ]

@@Terracottacup Are you serious right now? Do you think prophets never committed sins? Many prophets sinned, but the point is that they usually repented of those sins. However, Solomon started out good, but even he was led down into sin because of lust. Every person that has ever lived except Jesus is vulnerable to sin, but that's why Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that they may be covered. Also, are you under the perception that God chooses the most perfect of men to be his prophets? I tell you the truth, Jesus has said: 2 Corinthians 12 "My power is made perfect in weakness." Does God say the strong will inherit the earth? No, God said the weak shall inherent the earth. God appoints prophets who are, or were weak in order that the strong and arrogant be shamed and humbled.

Super fascinating! I actually really like the story of the testament. The allure of demons has always been a bit lost on me. I would love to go back in time and ask the anonymous writers, of all the subjects...why write this? Maybe it made them feel powerful or in control in times of uncertainty? And why the hierarchies? It would be interesting to size up the time periods in which many of the original works were written to possibly find a correlation between societal or political factors that maybe would motivate the texts? I'd also want to ask them if they believed in demons. I would guess most would, but you never know. Thank you Dr. Sledge! So much to think about! Hope you get back to tip top form asap so you feel much better!

@@benvinar2876 it's a great story. Not my style of the tree of life, but then it might help to believe in demons...
I equate many demonic texts as either ancient trolling or wishful thinking. Either way, it's a lot of trouble to write anything back then, let alone risk the ire of the surrounding community. And angels are definitely more acceptable than demons, unless it's sacrilege to command angels to do one's bidding. Angels might be too much to handle too. But if one is a magician settling for the lesser of the supernatural entities, is one that good of a magician? Or is the whole thing meant to be
nefarious, like for the hidden contrarian crowd? And how many of those people are there? And if the work is written anonymously, how fun is it to have one's work distributed? Unless the distribution is meant for undermining the conformist beliefs? So many more questions...

Actually Solomon had a covanent with God to not worship any other God other than the God of King David and Abraham. So when he met and came across the most beautiful woman of another tribe who worshipped another alternate God, most likely Asherah the Pole Goddess = Innana = Astarte the sex goddess aka the Queen of the Heavens who were also associated with prostitution and with Moloch/Melqart, where the Hebrews were instructed to not pass their children through the fire of Moloch. Therefore Solomon broke the covanent with God and was left astray to wander the desert alone because he fell for temptation and worshipped a different God just to be with this woman because this was her tribal God of worship, other than the God he had a covanent/protection with, the God of Abraham.
You may want to read the part of the Zohar where a King advices his Princely son that anything he wanted in God's kingship is already available for him including the position of Kingship providing he does not fall for the temptation of one prostitute = aka the temptation/testing of Shatan.
