    Never use the pitiful grub they give you for the beetle spin. Use a curly tail grub or a small swim bait, I’ve even use hair jigs on them. You could even put the rooster tail on the beetle spin. That’s why I like the beetle spin, you can put anything on them.

    I've pretty much only used the Rooster Tail for stream trout, but I've used the Beetle Spin mainly in inland lakes and ponds for bass and panfish.

    Nice catches. I've tried a rooster tail earlier this year but with no success, and I often got it hung up in my line. I'm definitely gonna try your suggestion of a heavier flouro leader next time I go out. I've got a couple of beetlespins in my tackle stash that I've never used; gonna try them also. Thanks for posting and sharing the knowledge BTW.

    If I'm having no luck at my brother's pond,I switch over to the rooster tail and it never disappoints.I catch a lot of bluegills but I have caught several largemouths.In fact,the biggest bass I caught out of his pond was caught on a white rooster tail.

      The White Rooster is imo one of the best baits you can throw and one that I use almost religiously. I too have caught some chunky Largemouths in the 2 lb. + range. It also catches Crappie really well if you can get it down in the water column.

    Man that’s crazy usually other way around for me. But fish are weird you never know what they want on any given day

    As you, I grew up fishing both but in the medium sizes and large sizes, caught all ranges of sizes of perch, bass, and crappie on both. Also used a small Dixon spinner in black and yellow which did just as well, all three were never a let down. Just watch the Johnson’s, I set the hook on a larger bass close to the bank and jerked the lure out of the water, it just so happened to hit me right in the forehead, I laugh about it now thinking about it, memories I cherish!

    Beetlespin is what I used to catch a 10+lb Largemouth 🎉on 6lb line.

    These are two of my most productive lures when I am trying to figure out a new fishing spot. For fishing for anything that bites, I like the 1/8 oz. size for both lures. I will say that I use the silver plated blade (not chrome) exclusively. It gives a whitish flash more like the flash of a fleeing baitfish. As for the beetle spin, mostly a white one, although there hasn't been an all white Beetle Spin made since Bass Buster was the parent company.

    Thanks for sharing. Could it have been the color of the Beetle Spin more so than the lure? Seems a chartreuse and black or crawdad color would've worked wonders...IMO. Blessings...

      Could be the color. Can’t wait until spring so I can use the beetle spin more and try different colors

    A beetle spin with a curly-tailed grub on it consistently catches me the biggest stocked rainbow trout, typically when I'm going for smallies. Highly recommended as an "explorer" lure to see what's in a new body of water. It'll catch 'em all.

    For my Beetle-Spin I have never had any luck on the supplied plastic. But I buy all kinds of plastics and soak them in an old bottle with Gulp Juice. Makes a world difference.

    Fished the Beetle spin 1/8 oz yellow red stripe in the 70's always did good with it. Fished t lures.he yellow or white 3/8 oz rooster tail in the 80's in milford lake in kansas for white bass both are good

    Change the grub to a hair jig or Curly Tail or even a swim Bait or Crappie Type Plastic on that beetle spin ,, I've Throwed that rooster tail down here (south Mississippi)and so Far I've Never caught a fish on it ,, but that Johnson's Beetle Spin Rigged up like I was saying works, I Also Use The Underspins or Road Runners Too They're a Good Bait

    oh man I dont know which one of those two lures is the best. My 4 yr old girl started fishing this last year, and she is catching fish on both. For me if one isnt catching, then I switch to the other. I will say the beetle spin is more versatile than the rooster, as you can put any plastic you want on it. I pretty much fish 3 lures, beetle spin, rooster tail, and a texas rig worm/craw

      Thanks for the tip. I normally just reel it which does catch fish but not nearly as often as a Rooster.

    You can't fish like that if you was doing that challenge it was good to see I like it but you have to fish both of them that day cuz you don't know what's going on in the water the next day or the day after that you really had the day of the fish biting if you would have threw the Beatles spend out while I was going on you would have had so much luck but that's just my opinion I think it's a strong opinion but it's a opinion it's not a fact so you win regardless

    ROOSTER TAIL BY FAR

  • @TheMrjamesworld
    @TheMrjamesworld 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Obviously you don’t normally use a spinning rod. Cast one handed. Let the rooster tail go to the bottom. Reach out and take up slack. Sweep the rod and begin cranking to get the blade spinning. Hold the rod tip low and crank slowly. You will get more fish and bigger ones also. No luck involved.

  • @choungchiv2441
    @choungchiv2441 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's hard to watch you close the spool the wrong way by cranking on the handle instead of closing it with your hand. It's a mistake that a first-time fisherman typically makes!

    I think the beatle spin is one of the most overrated lures made.

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my experience, it's very hit-and-miss whereas with a White Rooster I have never once gotten skunked. The Beetle Spin is good, but not nearly as good. My second PB Largemouth was caught on a Beetle Spin though. I think fish have to really be in the mood for a Beetle whereas a rooster they'll pretty much always hit it no matter what.

    @harryduncan6699 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Suggestion……..the weird cast makes you look like a fishing newbie, so people won’t subscribe. The reel goes between your middle and ring finger. Reason…..a balanced rod is centered over the spool, and holding the rod at the end makes it tip heavy. Using two hands, letting go with the right loses accuracy. The color selection was bad from the beginning. Yellow produces on rare days. A more natural color for the environment your fishing would have been better. For the Beetle Spin a black, black with yellow stripe, dark green or brown would match the insect population. For the rooster tail a minnow color…white or gray, or black/silver blade. If the water is dark a fire tiger with a gold blade. If you wanted the same color for both black would have been the best producer on most days. A 1/32 oz. beetle and a 1/16 oz. rooster would be the preferred size. If you needed longer casting distance you could go to a 1/8 oz but then you would have to reel faster and 90% of the time the slower the better as long as the blades turn.

    Ive caught a lot of fish on both but bigger bass hit the beetle spin. Crappie hit the rooster tail.
