- The violent incident from 2022 highlights what had been a growing problem with stolen vehicles in the city of Dallas. The number of vehicle thefts in Dallas is going down, but that’s only after a year of staggering numbers with more than 18,000 reported thefts.

The reporter kept incorrectly referring to this as "vehicle theft" in order to downplay the crime. Folks, carjacking is not "theft", it is armed robbery!
And in many places classified as a "forcible felony" which means lethal force is justified. Though legality will depend on the laws for each city.
It is also attempted murder in this case. This "report" keeps trying to avoid this fact here. It almost seems that they were playing it as "well they were fired at first so they then defended themselves".
They literally say "car jacking" in the video. They actually refer to BOTH auto thefts and car jackings. Maybe actually listen to the news piece and go get some therapy and a lithium prescription you paranoid little man you.

Carjacking and vehicle theft arent interchangeable
I would think carjacking would have to include interaction with the driver, either by physical threat at a minimum then, on up the escalation ladder with assault or even worse, while the victim is within or, immediate proximity of the vehicle.
Car theft to me, implies the victim is unaware until the victim is aware. "Oh! My car is gone!"
