    Our levels are so low as a country that we are begging for just being able to rent lol forget ownership 😂😂 wow really low bar is this the Canadian dream??

      A good way to start is to essentially ban private investment in residential structures.
      That'll help. Maybe turn over all housing rights exclusively to the government. That way you can own nothing and be happy.

    The intention of AirB&B was to rent out a room or your house when you aren’t able to use it. Seems reasonable to me.
    Instead we have people buying investment properties for the sole purpose of running them as personal hotels 24/7. That is what is contributing to the housing crisis.

    • @Andre-vr1ul
      @Andre-vr1ul หลายเดือนก่อน

      People buy investment properties anyhow, always have. What's next, ban that? If people didn't invest in housing, half of it wouldn't be built.
      This is the fault of federal immigration insanity, not some cottage owner renting out his boathouse here and there.

      @@Andre-vr1ul you’re a goof if you think this is 100% on immigration and that short term rentals don’t have an effect.

      @@BC_Geoff Yes, the housing shortage is 100% the result of failed federal immigration insanity.
      You are being lied to, my man. This is about money, racketeering and erosion of property rights.
      Consider this, if half of all high-rises are airbnbs (as you claim), what do you think that does to the market? If any town is saturated with infinity airbnbs, the prices plummet and no one makes any money. How many tourists et al do you think are renting these humdrum apartments? Do you know what sort of timeline is involved to see any return on running an airbnb? Especially when purchasing an apartment in Vancouver with high interest rates, high property taxes, utilities etc etc? You'd need to rent the thing for like 20 years straight to break even.
      The governments are scapegoating airbnbs, my man. Nothing more. They are scapegoating them as a means of control.
      Private property will not even exist if these steps continue. You may think that is hyperbole but I'm serious.
      Please think and stop listening to what these liars have to say. A good way to start is that everything they do say, consider the opposite.

      @@user-ku2bf1ul1d no kidding. Lets take something that everyone needs, not wants, build just enough to satisfy that need and little more because we have a business to run and then lets constrict that market by allowing people to not only buy multiple of them but allow them to be used as short-term rentals effectively taking them off the already tight market so they can earn more than a little money off it... it's almost like there shouldn't be a housing market.

    This stop gap will not make a difference. Offshore money is what owns all these properties. There are so many empty units across the lower mainland where the wealthy are just sitting on their real estate investment. This won't make any difference. Not one bit.
