- in this video I am showing you how to replace a shift cable on a 2017 Chevrolet Express 2500 got towed in because customer said wasn't going into gear I checked the shifter and I saw that I was staying in park so I checked underneath and the shift cable on the trans side was broken if you really wanted to you didn't have to replace the whole cable you can just replace that little bushing they sell in the help section
Wow i wish all repairs and videos were this simple and thoroughly covered
Thank you for the video! I'm currently replacing the lower shift cable in my stepdad's van and it's helped a lot!
Thanks for the video I only got the back half of the cable but after watching this I think I’ll be able to make it work. Now I know the connection is on the outside.
Thanks for the detail. This video helped a lot. Got my cables, $140!from Chevy
Dude thank you for this video. It’s helpful as fooock. Exact issue. Exact fix. Life saver !!! For me I couldn’t get just the bushing and the cable was old anyways. Feels better doing a proper fix for a van that I love. Thanks again.
Thank you so much..🙏.I'm glad this video was helpful
Thanks for making the video i don’t know how you do it tight spaces!
Well thanks to you I was able to fix my cable
I just needed a bushing but the price of the 1/2 section was not bad but…end up buying the whole thing )$120)because as I was removing separating halfway I broke the little clip (on the other section) that holds the cables together and worst dealer part did not match!! …my fault ! made the mistake of not comparing side by side!!!!
the cable was short it only gave me 123DN. no R no P
so i had to remove everything and of course dealer did not take the part. so i remove the bushing out of it and placed on the old cable and reinstall faster and easy ….not really it works
thanks
Learn from my mistakes !!
Only needed the plastic bushing replaced at the cable end. Keep ripping them off bro! 😂
I don't like ripping customers off..I'm an honest technician.i recommended the plastic bushing but the customer wanted to replace the whole cable ..so he didn't have to deal with it later...
After market bushings fall out too easy he did right by replacing the whole cable
Dude he just burned your ass NOW YOU LOOK STUPID
Plastic bushings suck…keep doing shotty work.

Good work. Thanks
I love this kind of videos , nothing bla..bla..bla......
I see it's a cleaning service van. Lol
Excellent video. I do the same things you do with the boxes and clicking the tools together. Lmao.
Nice job
Nice video
FYI TO EVERYONE: You may only need to replace the shift linkage bushing (little white plastic piece seen in thumbnail) cost me $10 and I crawled under my van and replaced it in 2min with my fingers and some needle nose pliers.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks
Thanks for the video, but there were no need to replace the upper cable- it comes on 2 parts, you should just replace the transmission cable section- on minute 4 to 4:09 there is the section where it separates- but I guess the customer asked for all the shifting cable replace- not a quick fix- Just saying- 😂
Thank you!!!..Yes sir all it basically needed was the transmission side cable.. but if we're talking about a quick fix then I would have just replaced the plastic bushing on the end of the transmission side cable.. but the customer wanted to replace the whole shift cable!!....🙂😂
Could you just purchases the lower, disconnect the transmission side and connect to new end without pulling the end of the column shifter? The would elevate having to pull it though the floor board.
Yes sir you can purchase the lower end separately..
Nice bro!
Do you have the part #?
My Savana has the same problem, bought the cable but my mechanic said it wasn’t ent the same.
Thanks in advance and great vid
Hi Miguel sorry I don't have the part number I threw the boxes away 😊 if you can't find the cable and the only part that broke is the little bushing you can go to the help section at O'Reilly's or AutoZone and they sell just a little plastic bushings and you can just slap that right on instead of replacing the whole cable
@@luckysdiygarage thank you any way, video helped a lot! 🤙
That's what I was wondering. I just need the plastic bushing.
They need to fix this. My chevy broke n it dodnt work then an it dont work realgood now lol
This broke when I was up a hill and had to hold my foot on the break till someone came to help
Dam sorry about that...hope everything was good at the end tho..
I'm guessing your patking brake cable was also broken.
@@TheCharleseye yeah it doesn't work at all
I re engineered the shifter it is now 1975 shifter on a 2000 chev
Can you please give me a suggestion for my transmission, my 2000 Chevy van, while I was driving doing about 60 mph and my transmission went out, as I gave the motor gas ,my engine was just revving, as I came to a stop , I put it in park and began shifting through the gears, no response from any gear I tried, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
And no leaks, clean transmission fluid.
All that was missing was a bushing… why replace the entire cable?
I recommended replacing the bushing but the customer wanted to replace the entire cable...
wonderful change, but i do not understand why you did not just put in a new bushing the kits are only 29 dollars. was there a reason?
I agree do you have a link to the bushings on Amazon?

Except in my case the cable was replaced and still happening.
What did it end up being
Ripping people off that's sad is just a very small part to replace 😢
@angels-wk1dn I don't like ripping customers off boss..I treat every customers car like if it was my own..I'm an honest technician.i recommended the plastic bushing, but the customer wanted to replace the whole cable ..so he didn't have to deal with it later...😁
0:36 why replace the whole cable..when you coulda jus replaced the bushing it was missing..
I could have....but it wasn't up to me brother🙂 i recommended replacing just the bushing to save money but the customer just wanted to replace the whole cable to not deal with it down the road..
@@luckysdiygarage i replaced the bushing on my 09 tahoe..it came off a cpl days later..im jus gonna get another shift lever and drill out the male part and put it back on.the run a screw and bolt thru the bushing so i dont have to deal with it anymore..
@@IGStrangDaKang haha that's one way of doing it .🤙
@@IGStrangDaKang and another way of doing it you can install an aluminum bushing and drill a hole on the tip of male part and install a safety clip..
Why not just replace the lower half of the cable. Upper was fine
I’m thinking same
Customer wanted to replace both .. and if it was up to me I would have just replaced the plastic bushings in the lower half of the line that's all you really need to fix the cable.. unless the cable was broken
