Nikon D4 vs Canon 1DX quick camera review

- This is my quick take review on the Nikon D4 vs Canon 1DX full sized, full frame DSLR cameras. If you're looking for a pro body for your photography, these cameras fit the bill for speed, battery life and durability while still giving you the ability to shoot 1080p video.

Just bought my 1Dx today.... I am in love.... I want to shoot with this beast to the end of my life.
The memory card difference is plainly a mistake. I sold my D4 and got a D4s back because I missed that sensor. But it would have been better for to go D5 and only use one card type and card reader. When I was looking for a low mileage D4s or D5 the D4s was a much better deal.
I shot both at an NFL night game when they were introduced. 50% more "in focus" keepers with the canon. Made the switch that night.
Your also shooting 2 more frames a second. So that would make sense statistically However, I would take the dynamic range of the Nikon over the cannon.
@@52701970 can you explain how frames per second are connected to 50% keeping rate. Super curious to hear.
I think he means to say you're taking more pictures or second so you more number of total pictures in the same time compared to the D4, so STATISTICALLY more chances of getting more keepers.. suppose you're getting 50% pics in focus for both cameras. If the D4 is shooting at 10fps, that gives you 5 in focus, whereas the 1dx at 12 FPS will give you 6 in focus. Hence that statement 🤓@@differentangle2499
These cameras are such good deals right now. You pay around 1/6 the new price in decent shape.
So tru. I just gt a 1dx. Compared to new prices I'd have only got a 7dii
Great to see reviews of these older cameras. I'm getting back into pro/am photography after long hiatus and don't want to spend ££££ on mark ii or iii so greta to know these still hold up.
I'll go out on a limb and say unless you need the newest autofocus modes for pro sports shooting or shoot lots of video, any full frame pro body from Canon or Nikon will have years of service left in it.
Have just purchased a D6 body, decided to keep the older D5 & D4 bodies. Have always been good workhorses for sports photography. Enjoy using the Z7 as well. Cheers, from Aus.
I also have a Z6 that I sometimes use for sports. Apart from the crappy battery life, I really like it. It might get replaced by a Z9 in the next couple of years tho. That camera is VERY interesting for sports shooting. Especially golf and curling. Pro DSLRs are too loud for the concentration sports.
Great videos Ian. I've been torn over what to replace my D700 with. All roads keep leading to the D4. It's affordable in 2019, £1300 buys a really good body with under 50k clicks. My lenses are all D series or earlier. I want speed and build and low MP, the D850 could be the answer but I'm not interested in the massive pixel count. Z series is interesting but I'd need to upgrade all my lenses too, at least to G series. This video helps a huge amount. Thanks man!
Get it. It will make sense coming from a D700. (I Have both)

Nice review, thanks, I've got a D3S and a Canon Eos 1D MK4, am looking to get a D4 so this review is really helpful. Agree with your observations about colour science and ergonomics. I'm leaning towards the D4. cheers
Even though I've used both Canon and Nikon a lot, I like how Nikon's colour is more accurate and leans more into the greens and yellows. Canon has great colour but it always seems a bit artificial to me.
I purchased a 1Dx recently from mpb uk, it has some problems so returned it in warranty and got d3s as a replacement. The 1dx runs circles around the Nikon in terms of its intuitive layout and user friendliness... I started with Nikon way back in 2013, only because most price brackets, low/mid level Nikon bodies offered better specs then canon counterparts. But all this time, I've firmly believed that the canons have better button layout. And it's been confirmed by my interaction with a 5d3 (a friend's), a 6d (i own one) and the 1dx experiencei just described...
I like the ergonomics of Nikon D4
Nice video! I've Used the D4 its sooo good! even by today's standards. Only thing that really bothers me is that the memory slots arent the same.
On a photography camera, Nikon should have left off the video part. As a pro photographer who worked at 10 Downing st. The video should be left to video cameras and not put on a Photographic camera's.
Ive always liked having the option to capture videos at breaking news scenes without having to cart along more gear but these cameras are really still cameras first and video devices much later. They're too big and they mount really high on a video head.
My goal is to get the 1dx for photos only very soon
Good idea. I gt one fr images nd keeping my 70d for video. Might upgrade to the 80d but it's not much better.
5:07 On that note, I shoot with a clapped out D4 and the Command dials get hard to turn with sweaty hands...

Hi,I realy like a Nikon D 4.He have A beather size of camera body.Canon have beather grip and meaby more settings but I have Nikon and he working well. Bay :-))
Great comparison. Always wanted to own one of these professional bodies. Probably going to pick up a D3 sometime in the future.

Not interested in the 1DX due to how much Nikon Glass I have. So the D4 seems to be my next DSLR purchase. I have used the D3 in the past and loved the handling and ergonomics. Can you tell me if the Shooting banks that the D3/D3s had on the D4?
