Thanks Manie. More to come in Part 3... Street rodders hate us because rats get WAY MORE attention at shows and we spend WAY LESS money! Oh, AND we have WAY more fun! 😄
Looks Cool Div. Well done again. I am of the simple opinion "EACH TO HIS OWN". We are all individuals and have different likes and dislikes. I adopt the attitude of respecting each others choices, Give credit where it is due, while trying to appreciate each idea for what it is. There are many things that I see, that I would probably never do to my vehicle. However, I still try to appreciate the workmanship, effort and talent of others. Not to mention taking away ideas and knowledge from so many people that take the time to share here on youtube. Thank you for the videos. keep in coming.
Thank you man. Agree 100% with you. Different ideas, likes is what makes the world interesting. If we all liked the same, what a boring place it would be! I embrace constructive criticism and difference of opinion. If someone don't like my shit, feel free to tell me, I'm cool with that. Even better, tell me why an suggest a better solution. Then we all learn and grow and communicate 😃
Enjoyed observing your patina method. Looking forward to the next video ! A rat rod project is so much more laid back than a restoration and therefore a lot more enjoyable. I recently took my Dodge Dakota rat rod to a local car show. There were some awesome full restorations there so shiny and clean that I would be afraid to drive them . Some very impressive cars , yet sitting back and observing the spectators my rat rod had at least 200 photos taken that morning . Many more than the shiny cars. There is a saying in my area: If you take your car to a show , "Don't park beside a rat rod." Because no one will look at your car! Thanks for the shout -out !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish we were neighbors ! I have an awesome parts store 3 miles from the farm here and some awesome salvage yards within 10 to 50 miles ! Amazon delivers within days !
Had the same thing at small local car show not so long ago. Competing against shiny high dollar hot rods, my Rogue Rat stole the lime light and won People's Choice. And it costed me a fraction of what those expensive machines sets you back! I would probably lose my head in your salvage yards... You guys are blessed with the variety and low cost. If you do Facebook, there is a small group called "Rat Rods for Africa". Maybe you can post a pic of the Dakota? Would love to see it...
lol... I know what you mean, I once parked my bike gsxr1000 next a crowd of people looking at a farari. All the people left the farari as started checking out my bike. the farari owner got pissed off and walked away...lol. i honestly didn't expect that, because I was also on my way to check out the farari.
Facts are Facts lol !!!! You are an awesome artist !!!! Your patience and attention to detail is awesome !!! Strategically placing the patina without pattern being original
I like it, you’re doing a great job. It’s like artistry, it comes down to your personal taste. Let me just say we wouldn’t get away with the exhaust either here in Australia. To tell you the truth we probably wouldn’t get away with what you’ve done. Cheers & stay safe😊
Looking good so far. I recently got a Mercury Montego that had been painted, but it’s a 20ft job. Think I’m going to follow your example with my paintwork..
@@ratrodsafrica It’s just being brave enough to start rubbing down on a normal paint finish..😂 but I have nothing to lose as it has bad Orange peel and not enough depth of paint to correct it.
@@dougknight1720 I hear you! But once you "break through that barrier" the satisfaction of disobeying all the standard rules is fantastic! At least for me it is.😅
I heard somewhere that life was too short to sand anything 😂 How can you title your vehicles assuming that you have to register them, and is it possible to sell one?⚡️
@@ratrodsafrica awesome thank you! My truck is a 96 but i really don't wanna spend thousands on body work and paint when I'd be happier with a patina paint job 🙃
@@zackablett2918 who needs 2k? Them old cars went for a long time with simple simple paint. Heck, even "tractor" paint will last long enough. And it's cheap
@@ratrodsafrica I used Rust-Oleum high performance enamel on my jeep hell everyone thought it was a real paint job haha but that's my thought. My buddy works in a shop and swears single stage is the devil haha
@@ratrodsafrica I ask because I've wet sanded my entire 67 f100 and am at a similar state as you. I want to do something to protect it that won't affect the paint
@@yarkie1 clear coat is such a pain in the ass! And then afterwards you stress about scratching it, which defies the whole patina/rat rod thing in my mind! Try a small spot with the boiled linseed oil mix. If you don't like it, easy to sand off when its dry. I did make a video about it where I applied it over paint, bare metal and rust.
Love Ratlook&ratstyle greetings from the netherlands ✌️💪
You never mentioned that you are a mad artist genius !!! Looking good !!!
Hey James, maybe mad, but dont know about the artist or genius parts... :) Thanks man!
Love your work, remember if you don't like it, change it,it's only paint .best wishes.
Steeetroders think we do not have money for a good paintjob , but more time and kustom idea's went into this truck than a plain colour ! I like it 💯👍

Fantastic work and love the truck! Lots of nice tips here 👍

Our title/registration system is not the same as in the US. But yes, the trucks I build all have papers and can legally be sold.
Sand the pain with scotchbrite
Are you using single stage paint for this??
Yes Sir. Old-fashioned "Duco". Nitrocellulose lacquer, the stuff they used before 2k became the thing

Did you end up putting some sort of clear on it?
No, I hate clear coat! Boiled linseed oil thinned down with some mineral spirits is all I use.
