    I have been a roofer for over 24 years. We do basic leadwork but would love to learn how to be able to do this as well as this guy one day. Top craftsmanship

      I’m the same as you mate been roofing on and off for the last 30 years but only ever done stuff like step flashings and valleys. My brother was the one that did all the big stuff and lead burning. This bloke did a quality job

      Same here roofing roughcasting and mainly plastering I do ,the 3 trades I've always wanted to learn are lead burning/welding,proper cornice work and Venetian plastering 👍

    Fantastic beautiful work! As a young lad working as a Labouer in London I would watch lead workers on my tea breaks and lunch hour. His grandchildren will be able to see his work. How proud they will be.

    Being a roofer who works with slate a lot, we stopped using lead, and more copper, due to the rain washing the lead into our water system, and lakes.

    Those lead rolls shown early on in the video where absolutely beautiful. It showed that we can still produce craftsmen of the very best in this country.

    Absolutely beautiful, you are a true craftsman. I live in the North East and we don't have many craftsmen here, in fact, it's hard to find a roofer who knows his job. If you advertise for a roofer here a couple of spotty youths turn up at your door with very little or no knowledge of any kind of roofing. Well done.

    What a brilliant job and as you say who would not love to retrain, a clear craftsman who must have been brilliant to watch on the day.     A gorgeous bit of leadwork there. I've got a wealthy mate who had a really big valley back gutter and flat roof done in lead. He loved the craftsmanship that went into so much, that he had a window installed on his stairs landing that overlooked the leadwork, so he could still look at it. Great video work to show off this great skill. Cheers.

    Made lead slates back in the day and fitted them round flue pipe etc, but nothing as beautiful as that. A work of art. Terrific. Regards Jim.

    Having just done this myself on a Bay, I know two things. 1, it costs a fortune. 2, I’m not very good at it compared to this fella. Great work.

    Back when I was an apprentice carpenter, the plumber would do all the lead work. Our old plumber taught me loads.

      Rhodri, I use my scrap to make lead soldiers and just before Christmas every year I march them down to the scrap yard!

    As a PMG cable jointer in Sydney I became a Lead Cable worker who loved the plumbing and wiping of large communication cables. I remember it fondly and loved this episode. Loved his work. 🇦🇺

      Not sayin its a bad job, but why not hidden lead between the slates ? The finishing of that is so much nicer + no lead drips on those slates.
      The name of the finish i mean is "Strackort Noordboom" (Not 100% sure what the english translation is, but googling that should give you a clear view of what i mean)
      fyi i'm a roofer myself and my specialty is natural slates , in case you'd be wondering if i'm talking bullocks :).

    Here in the uk a good lead man is like gold dust, there just arn't many around. It's a good trade for a youngster to get into.

      Ok so working with lead is extremely dangerous. This is irresponsible! There is a product out there that replaces the lead.

      @@jimsbcarp power tools can be dangerous if someone inexperienced is handling them, lead is still widely used and safe when precautions are taken.

      @Biden Hunter true but I don't see any PPE at all. Proper handling of lead requires at the minimum annual blood lead level testing and gloves. There is no reason to use lead. For this application Tin Zinc Copper is the replacement product and it performs well. Also power tools are not toxic.

    As a former lead worker this guy is a craftsman , but nightmare trade to get into to name a few problems the weather , brick dust and old lead dust that’ll probably kill u in the end . Damage to your back picking up lead also repetitive strain injuries. It is a young mans game it’s not something after 50 you will want to be doing , it was nice to see someone doing it correctly tho . Nice work !

    Like you I will just about tackle anything, but got defeated on pebble dashing my garage. So reluctently I had to call in the tradesmen. In this case a grandfather, father, and son outfit. They worked together like clockwork and when all done the quality of finish was excellent. I was so pleased I paid them more than their quote! So you may have exceeded your budget, but it looks absolutely brilliant. Money well spent. . .

    Great work, I'm a leadman myself, the only thing I do different is work the straps out so the laps land on the straps so they can't flap but each to thier own 👍

      why mix copper and lead ??

      @@creativefilmenterprisespty8042 because the copper straps hold the lead down better and prevent wind lifting the lead up. Lead straps can potentially pull away so hes used copper straps then lead to hide the copper
