The song, and the video is that just when you think all is lost, and you are at your lowest point in life (the burned face and body and nothing will ever be right or ok, The dark) the sadness, and despair has shown you just how tremendous the saving is when it comes (the light). he thought all was lost, when in fact the horrible event, brought him and introduced him to love, and his saving grace. When you open your eyes to the deeper meaning of the song and vid, it is one of the deepest and most meaningful videos you could watch. Both the cinematography and the song completely compliment each other and work very well to the meaning of each other. This in part is due to the fact that the band members have gone through much along the same lines of what they write about.

It's not that he can't find anyone else, just that he developed a relationship with her. Many people still believe in a higher being and that he can't do anything wrong, so a tragedy that he could have prevented is then turned into "He has his reasons for everything" so we get the lyrics "Sometimes darkness can show you the light" which is a profound line that does work. Even for someone who isn't religious like me. As I think if you have to suffer for happiness then whatever God chooses that way is a narcissist. I like the video, it happens and we don't know if she is still his physical therapist or not by that coffee date.

Bonds form in life. Jeez...what kind of mind makes this happy ending video, seem creepy.
While having never watched boardwalk empire I get what you're saying, but another comparison to make to the afflicted person in this video to me is Harvey Dent from batman, the Aaron eckhart version of two-face is iconic as is Heath ledger and his portrayal of the joker. RIP Heath, you are missed. He as a firefighter suffered a life changing injury but it's through that hell that he's found his heaven. She's not a prize(misogynist comment), he's not better than her or vice versa (power dynamic comment). It's just a very simple story meant to give those struggling some hope that their suffering has real meaning to it.

If u notice every time he walks anywhere with his hood on, people stare & either pity or judge him from the scars. With the physical therapist working with him, 2 me it's like she sees him 4 the man he is on the inside rather than what the scars show on the outside. It's sad but also uplifting showing u that even when ur at ur lowest point something beautiful can happen. That's just my take on it.

I like this song but always felt it was a bit overrated. To me Disturbed has a lot of better songs. The message is great, of course, but I always felt it mostly gets so much attention because it's the only single from that album that wouldn't scare the new fans who only know Sound of Silence.
