- Join us for another Episode of NSF Live. In this Episode, Jack, Sawyer, and EJ will talk about the recent issues with the Orion capsule, that NASA found at the Artemis I mission. They will also talk about some exciting case studies, getting ready for Mars, and of course, the recent Starship news.

Hi! Good morning from Rome. Thank your program. Your're great ❤
Thank you for another great episode of NSF Live, Jack Sawyer, EJ, & Alxe Thank you!!!!
The Turbopumps power the fluid pumps directly. The fluid pumps push the methalox into the preburner which spins the turbopumps.
So essentially the turbopumps cannot spin without the methalox preburner. This is why starting an engine is the hardest part of an engine. I believe SpaceX uses high pressure liguid nitrogen to start their engines. Cheaper than helium and helium is only required for Hydrogen engines since liquid hydrogen will freeze any nitrogen in the turbopumps or tubing.
They could potentially use electric motors to spin the turbopumps enough for the methalox to run through the system.
It's a great question but I would imagine they don't keep the turbopumps spinning without the cooling
Yeah, I've been wondering if anyone has tried using an electric starter on a rocket engine. Since Rocket Lab runs the whole fuel pump electrically on a small engine it should be possible to at least start a large engine with electric power.
The heatshield issues scream for another test. But, considering how expensive and low cadence SLS-Orion is, I wonder if they would just have another waiver for it.
Asked and answered.
Another fun and interesting stream thanks Jack, EJ_SA , Alex and Sawyer , and the back channel team.
Alex, the turbo charger Cummins engine in a 2000's Dodge makes a similar honk when shut down.
Thanks!
Cheers, 😢 production model 1 vs. X
Is there a schedule when NSF goes live like this?
NSF Live (off-the-rails, like this one) every Friday at 17:00 Eastern or 22:00 UTC
I find it amazing that even with a countdown timer NSF who is very used to countdown timers, cannot start on time. Part of the chaos I guess.
1:16:34 Magnetic deviation is probably more of a priority at this point boys.
1:22:40 - yeah that made absolutely no sense lol. I love how she immediately called him out ahd then he pretended like he said something completely different 😂
👍👍👍😊🚀
Can someone post a discord link? Where is this thing you keep speaking about?
Letting the turbo pumps spin would add unnecessary vibrations to the system
Maybe its just me but it seems like you guys are getting tired of each other. Some of the comments suggest stress from too much work together. Too many long hours.
Dump man in the hat
1:13:35 Thingy. Ok.
i am not wasting 2 hours of my listening to u guys
Will it launch today?
Watching this way late for Orion and HLS news. The first stuff is a bit dated lol
To be fair, we released it 2 weeks ago. 😅 Good to get caught up though. 👍 - Das
I don't think Artemis would survive if they said they needed another uncrewed mission because then you'd be pushing the moon landing way out.
Better than sending man on a ship before they determined the head shield problem is actually fixed during re-entry. It's just dumb they didn't test this before they are going to send man today.
50 years after Apollo and not able to make again a good heat shield? What NASA and USA become??
They said they lost the technology. I wonder if one day we would have to start all over again by trying to fly with some wings attached to the arms. Ridicules.
So.. Apollo heat shield was better.
Heat oxidizes iron -> rust. No salt water required at all. See any images of burnt out tanks or APC’s from Ukraine. They’re all completely rusted out right after they’ve cooled down.
really?
When are we going back to the moon...for cyin' out loud the Vulcans will be here in 2063!!!!!
Love watching but Alex has got to get better."cringe"
