Felix's story is what hard work and total commitment can achieve. Such a good dude with a lovely family who made the "giant leap" to do what he truly loves.
Im 63 now and followed the space program since Apollo 8. I visited Atlantis visitor center 9 years ago and was unprepared for the emotional experience. I was weeping! I suspect there will be many opportunities like this coming soon. I look forward every day to seeing updates from you guys as well as Tim Dodd, Scott Manley and Marcus House.
Anything on the horizon? EVERYTHING is on the horizon! The past has lessons for the future, but the horizon is chocked full of opportunity. I have LOVED this conversation! Thank you, Joe and Felix.
This interview has changed the way how I watch Felix's content. He is much more interested in space exploration in general and has many insights. It is not just SpaceX fandom.
I got to see Enterprise, Discovery, Pathfinder, Independence and finally Atlantis this past Summer. The Atlantis exhibit is easily the most emotionally powerful of the five. I also started tearing up during the movie.
To think about: Elon says they're close to building Raptors for $500k apiece, with the goal of $250k apiece. A single RS-25 costs in the neighborhood of 100 MILLION dollars. SpaceX will be able to build between 4-8 full flight sets of Starship engines for the cost of ONE new engine for SLS. And Starship will bring the engines home. So just in engines, SpaceX will outfit between 16 and 32 Starships with engines for the cost of a single SLS flight. AND...AND...a single Raptor is a little less efficient to orbit than an RS-25, but has more thrust, so total impulse may be really close. Crazy.
The thing I miss is the "love you guys, take care" some of us only hear it from you. Hate to be so needy, but there it is. It's true. It's real. I miss it. 😢
I hear ya. Joe is the only person that tells me they love me after my wife walked out on me with the kids to move in with the coworker she was cheating with
@@citizenblue thanks man, sorry for your loss of a dream. I feel you. Mine are dashed too. It's just so nice to hear Joe say it. When we feel alone he makes us feel included, not forgotten. Maybe it's a little thing to some, but it definitely makes a difference for many of us. Chin up old man! As they used to say. Someone better always shows up when you least expect them. Ok. I'm patient. But, I did shave my head today. Don't need mousse for awhile! Lol! All joking aside, Citizen Blue, know 💙 you are appreciated, by me. Truly, thank you. 😊 honestly.
Ive been following Felix since pre-covid and it was great watching his channel and talent grow. His presentation and knowledge is quite entertaining and I just know his channel will continue to grow. Congrats Felix.
Joe, I've lived in Texas since I was 2 years old. We've talked many times about moving other places, in or out of the US. But living in Texas is good enough that it's hard to leave.
Almost 3 years ago now, I was regularly tuning into a podcast that regularly talked about news related to spacex and Tesla. One of the recommended videos was by a new channel that also covered SpaceX news. It was Felix’s channel. I’ve been subscribed to his channel ever since and can’t wait to get back into live streams when S24 and B7 start the new launch campaign. What was that other channel, something about a ludicrous future? Idk, why don’t they just get the crew back together. Speaking of transitions.. this one is going nowhere. Keep up the great work both of you!
Hey I usually give up after 15 minutes. Proud to say I listened to this in its entirety . As long as there is not pop quiz. You two are great together and I will check out his channel.
SLS is a great rocket from an old era. It's like comparing Ferrari to Plaid. One is a sports car from the past, the other is a family sedan from the future
SLS and Starship will compliment each other well. As it is the funding for SLS only goes to like Artemis 5. By that time it seems like Starship will be ready to go directly from earth to the moon.
About Felix' problems with starting a company in Germany. He's right but be aware that the €25000 you need isn't fees but the minimum you have to put into your company to show that there is something of substance behind your company.(and something that can be used if you fück up and ge sued)
Thanks for sharing your conversation! Great stuff. I’m a huge space fan, love SpaceX, NASA and all that is being done. It’s not a waste of money. Hoooowwwever, people in space outside of our magnetosphere, long term, is going to be a huge barrier to get past for mankind. The shielding required will need to be developed, which will be another benefit of space tech. It is a hard problem to solve to have humans thrive off of the planet we have existed for all time. Do we have the cajones to get that done?
My thoughts SpaceX is definitely in the running, but just because they can, doesn't mean they will, it would really piss off NASA and subsidiaries. If/when NASA fails, then SpaceX can step up without stepping on toes. SpaceX may also include NASA as "partner" or guest.
I love felix. Been following him for a long time! I live in Florida, I’m curious to how we don’t recycle tho. I guess I’m ignorant in this regard. Maybe it’s the county I live in? I put everything recyclable in the recycling bin and put it to the curb every week. Is that not normal in America?
Hey Joe! Thanks for posting something new! Even if it's old, some is new. Anyways, we enjoyed the show! We're getting nebula for our Christmas presents to each other this year! So looking forward to seeing more of you! We want to prepay 1 time for the year, is that possible?
I think that Elon intends to Crew the Starship with Optimus robots initially, avoiding the need for a crew rated ship. Maybe even for the first trips to Mars.
You young men should aim higher. I'm 62, and I would go to Mars in a heartbeat. Maybe we are made from a tougher material, I don't want to talk down. But then, I am a Vet.
Listening to your discussion on starting a company and filing taxes is really strange to a Dane. I have started 2 companies so far. Took me longer to register a domain name than registering the company. As for taxes, the only thing I have to fill out myself is how many km. I have commuted to and from work, and that's done by putting in the addresses... if changed since last year, and the number of days I went to work.
Tax forms are not automated in Germany? Wow, it has been automated so many years here in Finland. You get auto filled digital tax form where can make changes if you think something is wrong.
Felix - Please do not use Florida ( or Texas) as representative of the USA. Here in Colorado most of us have recycled via separate curbside containers for the last 20 years
25,000€ or 2,500€ to start a company (29:00)? I often make the mistake of mixing up "25 hundred" and "25 thousand" in speaking, so I finally abandoned ever saying "x hundred."
Elon Musk doesn't have a problem with people seeing what he's doing. Like he says patents are for the weak. He does have to keep a lid on the ITAR hardware and prints.
But it’s not an apples to apples comparison… It’s apples to flying unicorns. The worlds first fully reusable rocket will be leaps and bounds beyond the legacy bottle rockets made by ULA and others.
Hi joe & Felix. I can barely imagine what is the QUALITY of LIFE inside those frenetic (could be the correct term?) industries... sometime I wonder if they have enough time for their biological needs... Also I never heard anyone complaining about this...
450 pages of VISA application 😤. ten suitcases and 15 moving boxes. the airline refusing to take your cat 😤. damn 😭. I'm sorry, Felix, it should be easier to move to a different country.
Maybe Elon Musk can bring all Space industries together so all can work on all programs so all will head for the same goal Space the moon and Mars and beyond.
Hey if government was capable of solving problems then we wouldn't have any problems. Remember Reagan said government is not the solution, government is the problem.
To be fair, "government is the problem" tends to translate into "companies want less regulation so they can cut corners even at the expensive of human life", and Republicans like Reagan rake in a lot of money by being able to join those companies after they're done with politics, if they've held up their end.
Reagan certainly created a lot more problems than most presidents. warmongering, mismanaging the AIDS pandemic, the war on drugs, mass incarceration etc. Most other presidents have been more constructive than him.
china can beat nasa to the moon as well. but no system is proven until its proven. firstly, it has to make orbit and return safely.. nobody is there yet, except falcon 9/falcon heavy/crew dragon.. i watch them all.. and you all.. artemis 1/sls launch punted down the road till november because "Ian"-- LOL. i was 10 for the apollo 11 landing.

42:42 SLS is basically the same diameter as Starship. Will have a 10m fairing diameter - to take that to the moon, not LEO
