    As an original Star Trek fan, as in I saw TOS when they where first aired, I really liked the addition of humor. Interesting to learn that there was infighting about that.

    Great video. My favorite season two episode is my favorite of TOS and it's Doomsday Machine for it's time hell for anytime the story of a broken man plus the acting and make-up it all comes together and stays with you. It hits home when you can see someone who has walked through the fires of hell and you wonder if you could do the same and come out different or take the same path he did. When you have a show making you think like that you have something special.

    My favorite was Doomsday Machine! You saw competing Captains. Different styles. Another Starfleet officer who was, for a time, competent! It was to say the least, unique. You wouldn't see another Starfleet Captain until Ultimate Computer, also in Season Two! Keep up this fantastic work!

    While the two shows weren't hits internationally at that point, you can see similarities between Assignment: Earth and the changes Doctor Who would go through in the 70's. A mysterious person from another world/time coming to Earth and working with a single female partner/companion in a blend of sci-fi/espionage/action. Even Gary Seven's servo is remarkably similar to the sonic screwdriver which became much more ubiquitous with the Third Doctor.
    More than likely, both were influenced by The Avengers, which had been brought to the US in 1965. It had long had the male lead with female partner setup and gadgets were a big part, as well.

    The Doomsday Machine was a masterpiece. The mix of storyline, top notch acting by the cast and guest star William Windom, and Sol Kaplans provocative score made for one of the best Star Trek episodes of any of the series.😀👍🏼🖖🏼

Wowza that Roddenberry seemed like such a loose cannon😜 It’d be great if you could of done mini docs for every episode of S2, but hey, I know you’re prolly just doing this in your spare time. A most enjoyable viewing. Well done to all involved. The musical accompaniments through season 2 (IMHO) are epic in scope and are irreplaceable. Can you imagine Amok Time or The Doomsday Machine with different musical treatments? You can't. The scores are as integral to these episodes tapestries as the crews colored tunics and, dare I say it, the design of the NCC 1701 herself. I realize this is a stretch, but I believe these scores are simply brilliant. RNB

    Another wonderful installment!
    Thanks for changing the color of the little trivia boxes onscreen. Much easier to read now.
    Here’s something else that an old-timer like me wishes would be considered: you use the remastered edits of the original series. As you are discussing tv airings from the sixties, the originally aired version would seem better.
    Just a thought

    • @TriAngulumAudioStudios
      @TriAngulumAudioStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you so much and im glad the color change has helped things out :)
      As to your other point, Ill try to explain why I used the remastered. When I decided to start this channel I knew I needed the episodes to cut and piece together for them all. BUT you cant just stick a DVD or bluray in and start editing. You need to convert every episode in to an edited format. And so I did. The problem is to do that took over a month. And so when it came to making these videos I had a choice... Either stop production on all my videos for a few weeks while my comp ran non stop converting my blurays with the original effects over for editing, so just use what I already had... And I guess you can tell which I chose :)

    I miss the original SFX like an old friend. Sometimes it's good to see the wires, and the limits of how they worked. (There are even some episodes I haven't even seen, but read as Photonovels!)
    However, I also fully enjoy when the new SFX are better _(the man disintegrating himself with McCoy's phaser, in_ City on the Edge of Forever), _and the remasters clearer_ (most control panels and displays). TLDR, why don't we have both?
    [Edit:] I probably sound like someone nostalgic for black+white _Lost in Space..._

Just like they do today with Discovery. Watching your videos, I realise Discovery was not the first ST series to have big production troubles. It seems Roddenberry wasn't an angel at all. Too many Star Trek fans just hear about Gene Roddenberry as the creator, and someone who had a vision of a bright future. Sadly, Gene was very much a mirror of zefram cochrane. Everyone looks back at what a hero he was, and how amazing what he made was. What Gene Roddenberry created was a brilliant show, which still, 50 years later has a massive fanbase who still adore it, but it isn’t known that Gene wasn’t exactly the nicest person.

    I am so not conditioned to this “season 1-3” hierarchy rankings - cuz when I was intro to ST as a kid, I went from being 6 yrs old “yuk! ST is soooo boring” (when my dad would watch a rerun” to then I accidentally watched the last 1/3 of ST2:TWOK when my uncle was watching it 83/84 when I was 8-9 yrs old & then wanted 2 watch the whole movie & LOVED it & everything about it. So then my father intro me to the series on reruns on channel 11 (NYC metro area) at 12 wkdays & 6pm on Sats. So I would record them till I had the entire series (or thought I did, till I found out I was missing “Immunity Syndrome”
    And they never reran it in sequential order. It was rerun out of order. So I was not used to the season divisions, since it was rerun in any random order when I watched the original series.

    I'd also prefer to see the text balloons in a "Bonus Info" list all at the end; these blue ones are easier to see and therefore faster to read, but I'd still rather focus on the main program. Your information is solid and interesting, and very well-presented, so you don't need to treat this as a fluff-piece, pop-up video (this one felt like it was part eye calisthenics). It is a shame that studio interference, petty politics and budget constraints conspired to bog down such an incredible show. And wasn’t Trek one of, or the first show that was syndicated with less than 100 episodes? Born in 70, I didn’t see Trek series until the mid 80s as a teenager although I saw the movies in theaters. Trek captured my imagination as it was more cerebral than Star Wars and other action sci fi stories. To this day Trek stands out as a favorite that taught me the certain morals that Roddenberry meant to put across with the show.

    Season Two was visually the best put together. Season three primarily just using stock footage would not better it. It is too bad as this is a historic production retrospective, that you do not use original series space clips instead opting for the 21st century budget CGI. With original practical shots we could see the contrast.
    As a kid, I thought season two was best, but in retrospect, most of the scripts are simplistic and the show more comic book with the mood, lighting, acting and stories featured in season one. Thus it appeals more to kids. About three of the season two episodes were deep concept sci fi or edge of your seat with major plot turns not telegraphed.
    Many of the scripts in two and three had a Daniel Boone/Wild Wild West pacing. There was the exposition and predictable pretty girl, the what'll they do end of act two, the Daniel Boone/Bonanza/James West fight scene in the third act. Omega Glory almost was a Daniel Boone episode and fireside ceremonial knifefight, with story concept lifted from a 1920s novella by Philip Nowlan (a Roddenberry favorite as it would reappear in several series).
    Season one had more high concept contributing writers from science fiction. The lighting was a mix of film noir and WWII military films. The Matt, Doc, Miss Kitty formula with Spock as sage was better and more adult than the skirt of the week.
    Due to what kept happening in 66/67 to better seasoned fantasy writers at the hands of western writers/directors like Roddenberry/Coon/Justman....by 1967 the word was out. Don't bother with Star Trek. They won't pay much and they'll string you along forever with rewrite demands.
    I'd say now that season one had 10 great stories and 12 good ones despite production errors. Season two had three great ones, five very good ones, three good comedies, three turkeys, and about ten ok for TV comfort food. Season three, maybe one great episode. Most of them turkeys or rehash of season two scripts. The spaceark was an adaptation of a classic story from the 30s, 40s by two incredible writers, however the Star Trek writer and edit team produced a pale adaptation.
    A highpoint for season three was the Romulan commander, just due to her casting. A very strong actress. However she and Nimoy were handed some surplus lines from Catwoman and Batman in the romance scene. Shatner just chewed the scenery, as the script demanded. Fontana often cooked ham on her typewriter.

    To my knowledge, gathering from other interviews and sources like those with Walter Koenig himself, Star Trek was unknown in the USSR and there never was an (un)official complaint about there not being a Soviet or Russian character on the series. This seems to be just another Star Trek myth. Alledgedly Roddenberry did however write a letter to the Kremlin when noticing the "oversight", appologising for not casting one sooner but it is unknown if they ever responded or even aware at all of, or even cared about the "issue". But please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @TriAngulumAudioStudios
      @TriAngulumAudioStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed you are incorrect... The myth is that it is a myth... Everything mentioned in these videos have been confirmed by at least 3 independent sources connected to the show... So 1 source, Walter, saying it's untrue versus 7 that say it's true... Well you can see who Id believe... After all it would make sense he wouldnt know, since he was brought on AFTER the entire issue!

    • @h.omalis2556
      @h.omalis2556 5 ปีที่แล้ว

       TriAngulum Audio Studios I do not doubt your thoroughness and investigation. However, the Wikipedia article on Chekov recounts it slightly different, as a reason given by NBC in a press release as why the character was Russian after Koenig was already cast. This is also how he tells it. Wikipedia also mentions that Roddenberry wrote a letter to Pravda after Koenig was cast. Question: why would Koenig deny the Pravda article story to be true? If that is really what happened, how would it benefit him? 'Pravda' means 'Truth' of course but sources seem to contradict eachother.

    • @TriAngulumAudioStudios
      @TriAngulumAudioStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are many reasons someone like Walter might make that mistake... Why would 7 other sources like Shatner, Nimoy, Herb Solow, Bob Justman etc lie? Again, 1 vs 7, the 7 win!

      Sorry outside links cant be posted on this channel, but again it's not enough or solid enough for anything for me or this channel... The way I look at it is this... Who am I going to believe... A site that says it may or may not be true by people who werent involved in Trek, or 7 people who were that have the same story... Thus that story stands and will stand with me behind it... I appreciate your opinion, but there is more solid evidence on the side of the story, rather then not... Thank you for your comment however! I appreciate your concerns, Ive merely already made the decision about this story being included long ago and the reasons why it was! take care...

    • @h.omalis2556
      @h.omalis2556 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TriAngulumAudioStudios Well, perhaps that is the issue. You "appreciate my opinion" so you say, but I have no specific opinion. I must admit that I was convinced that it was a myth but I concede that it could be true. You, however, "already made your decision long ago" and seem to be unable or unwilling to entertain the possibility that it might be different in reality. You cite Shatner as a source to back you up but he actually denies and debunks it. I cite other sources, however you do not. There is NO proof of the Pravda article ever to have existed, but there IS a letter by Roddenberry to Russia. According to all accounts Chekov was cast as a Beatles/Monkees-esque character to appeal to a younger audience (and to fill in for George Takei). But the specific reason as to why he was Russian seems to be in doubt. Denying a possibiliy (due to lack of solid evidence) just because it does not fit one's own narative is not very Trek nor scientific. I do not have to be right, which is why I asked for proof. But could you possibly be wrong?

    For somany years now the idea seemed to be startrek stopped because of the other actors disagreements with Shatner at least that's all anyone ever talked about. It looks like it was way more than that. Interference from stupid outside sources. Roddenberry wasn't a nice man either and Shatner stole Nimoys lines and scenes because Nimoy was getting paid more because he complained. Everyone up until I watched this seemed to blame Shatner for everything. He might not have been a great actor but he was bad either
