  • In this video I will be applying an inkjet waterslide decal to a pedal enclosure to show how a near professional result can be achieved at relatively low cost at home using basic materials.

Oh, good, I just bought waterslide decals from Amazon, and it's the exact same ones. Good to know they work.
That design looks great on the raw metal as well!

A little tip,as the waterslide paper is not cheap just as acetate sheets for making PCBs also is not cheap, print the image you want in low res on paper first then cut out a slightly larger piece of waterslide paper and tape it over the low res image on the paper sheet using masking tape low tack type should be best.
Then print the full res image using the normal paper carrier sheet this will reduce massive waste of the waterslide paper allowing multiple prints from a single A4 sheet instead of one sheet per print.

looks great. I'm trying to do the same thing as you by using the drilling template to create custom art but when I import the pdf file into gimp it is never the same size as the original pdf file and i cant get it to print to the right size. Anyone have any tips let me know. thanks

I always scan my drilled enclosure and don’t do any scaling or anything. I have trouble understanding these programs.

Nice decal! Do you draw your own graphics or get them somewhere else? Where do you get them if so?

Great video, much appreciated! I'm actually going to be putting one of these together this weekend. One suggestion that I picked up from watching some other videos was to wait until after doing your final coats of varnish before cutting out the portions of the waterslide decal that cover the holes for your pots/switch. Depending on how many coats you do, the varnish layers can start to make the holes a bit snug to fit components through. Did you ever settle on whether you preferred the matte vs a satin or gloss? Mine won't be painted either, but I was thinking about trying a gloss coat.

I've only tried the matte so far and it looks great. I will probably pick up a gloss version soon though to to try it out.

Hiya, I’m trying to do this at the moment and for some reason when I apply it it tends to stick too easily and doesn’t allow me to move the decal around to get it in the right position. Anything I can do to fix this?

If you wet the surface of the enclosure with a little water before applying the decal it might help.

@@LiamOConnorAudio I’ve been doing that too but for some reason it seems too thin to move? Maybe I’m not using enough clear coat?
