I thoroughly convinced that Atlus is the next Square-Soft. They knew the audience they are selling to, they understand that they are making video games, and not movies, and clothes, made localize their games properly, and doesn;t hold contempt for overseas audiences, they put quality over glitzy graphics, and they aren't trying to "appeal to a wider audience". I'm rooting for Atlus to utterly own the next generation this time, seeing that their "Persona" series sold quite well. GO ATLUS!!!!
Yes, OmegaSin, I have indeed played the older FF games, and while I agree that FFXIII is flawed in a number of ways, I still like it and think it's a good game. I can see why most people dislikes it, but for you to just outright say that NOTHING is good about it, that is just childish^_^
DarkCloud3000 So you are just taking his side because... because... because.......... f*ck it if AlphaOmega says it it MUST be true. Have your own opinions for a change dude.
So, you think I only got this opinion from him and don't actually know what i'm talking about? You must be a mind reader. Also, did you really just censor your fucking comment on fucking TH-cam? That had to have been the funniest thing I seen this year, good job. But no, saying that i'm only copying AlphaOmegaSin is being a fanboy in denial. Their's people out there that do not like this game. He is not the only one with videos like this...In fact, there are quite a few.
DarkCloud3000 I am only refering to the fact that you just "justified" your opinion that XIII sucks with the argument that "when Alpha says it, it's because it's true". And yes, I just f**king cencored myself on f**king youtube^_^ why? because it's funny. So if you thought it was funny then it served it's purpose :3 And yes, there are indeed people out there that don't like XIII for legit reasons, but guess what, I'm not one of them, and I have legit reasons too.
Could you do me a favor? Show me where I said that Final fantasy XIII sucks because he said it did. Because I don't recall ever saying that. I do have a legit reason on why I dislike the game. I actually was around back then to play classics like Final Fantasy VI. Not even Final Fantasy VII is that good. But when I actually say funny. I actually mean ridiculous; it's sarcasm.
In 2000, the film was revealed as Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Sony released the film on July 11, 2001, but could only muster mixed reviews. Massive cost overruns resulted in the film's worldwide box-office take being just over half of its budget. Square Pictures was disbanded shortly thereafter. Then Enix and Squaresoft banded together to make Square Enix in 2003. Random history. Long Story Short.. The movie "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" had a huge impact on why Squaresoft had went downhill.
Have you all forgotten about Dragon Quest?? Dragon Quest IX and VIII were pretty good. DQ got better and better as Final Fantasy got worse and worse. You can't leave the Dragon Quest series out of the question. I can't wait for DQX.
Yep, Square Enix was a real trainwreck of a company last gen. But even then, all of the shit they pulled at that time PALES in comparison to what Konami is doing now. Hell, I'd say Yoichi Wada would run Konami better than the assholes that are in Konami's board.
Square Enix ceo "" you know what we need to become the next konami"" announced all future final fantasy games are essentially going to be fantasy gta online
Say what you want about Final Fantasy XIII, but the music was anything BUT lame. In fact it's even better than the music I heard in other Final Fantasy games.
Christopher Pullen Maybe you don't like that style of music, but there really are some awesome tracks in this game. Like Blinded by Light, the battle theme, for example. That's one of the best tracks of the game, and it's up there with the other greats of the series. Now,I'm not saying XIII's soundtrack is my absolute favorite, but just that it's worth listening to.
Connor Davis lol It's not THAT bad! Besides,XIII has symphonic style music. That's never really terrible unless of course you swear by electric guitars and whatnot.
12 was just an offline MMORPG, with barely any story that was a ripoff of Star Wars, as well as the characters (clones of Han Solo, Leia, Darth Vader..). Besides, when you set gambits, the game was playing itself. FF12 is even worse than FF13. I wonder, why so many people weren't hating on that one. Probably because it didn't get as much attention.
Vivi Orunitia Yes, square was totally was making 12 with sw in mind. And screw star wars Basch has more character devolopement than any of those idiots could hope to have. What's next? considering ffx a masterpiece?!
Aaron Majewski Do you mean me? I don't think FFX was a masterpiece, but it was a very good title in the series, with some of the best stories, and soundtrack (to zanarkand, hymn of the fayth...). I also liked most of the characters a lot, like Auron, Jecht, or Yuna. How exactly did Basch develop in any way? I f he did, I didn't realize it. I liked Balthier more, anyway, although he was Han Solo in a Final Fantasy game.
FF13 was more of a movie then a game, hell if you want to know the story don't even bother playing the game just watch all the damn cutscenes on youtube. The parts that were actually a game and not cutscenes were boring as hell. I'm so glad there done with the Lightning saga.
***** I would disagree, on one big difference: I liked Cloud a lot. I hated Lightning until a good 20 hours in. I mean, I really, really, really hated her until 20 hours in. Cloud, at his worst, was still relateable, and he had a convincing arc that started only about 5 hours in.
FFX sold 1.9 million in it's first week and FF12 also sold 1.7 million in it's first week. In FF7's first week of sales in Japan it did well over 2.5 million, squashing every other entry in the series. Also pre-orders mean nothing, a pre-order can be cancelled at the last minute but is still rang up in it's overall tally, can't really do that with sales figures. So by comparison, yeah it's definitely not living up to the previous entries as far as moving units go.
it's a shame that nobody ever mentions FF5 in their list of favorite final fantasy games. it was the first FF where you could customize job abilities (i.e a knight that can cast black magic or a Monk that can use red magic) and it was an overall decent game. the story isn't as cool as 4 or 6, but it's still up there for me.\ and yes, FF7 is overrated.
+Carnel G Kingdom Hearts is not the kind of game that I would enjoy and FFVII can't is garbage compared to Wild Arms: Alter Code f and Valkyria Chronicles, which FFXV can't even hold the candle to.
Dragon Quest is still good though. I find it funny how when Final Fantasy started getting worse and worse DQ started getting better and better. The only things I buy from Square Enix now are Dragon Quest games. I'm looking forward to DQX if SE ever decides to release it in the states.
FF13 has unique qualities..1. Failing (with flying colours)2.Autobattle (Ties in with 1)3. Corridors ( Everyone who played it cannot have any issues walking those)
The lightning DLC episode where she fights Cauis basically connects the ending of FF13-2 with how FF13-3 will take off. Granted i am sure this has been uploaded to youtube. MAYBE that will get explained in FF13-3 for those who don't watch or know of the episode. But fact is a part of the ending got cut off and turned into a DLC. If there is plans to have a lot of DLC for Final Fantasy Versus 13(if that ever comes out), then same can go for FF13-3
It should be mentioned that the Sony Playstation wouldn't even exist without Squaresoft and FF7. The Playstation was actually developed as a disc-based add-on for the N64, and FF7 was originlly developed as an N64 title, but Nintendo's cartridge format couldn't support it's size. Nintendo decided to drop the project (fearing it would become the next Atari Jaguar) leaving Squaresoft behind. Sony released the Playstation as a stand alone console with FF7 as a launch title, and the rest is history.
An absolutely spot on rant. Any diehard fan of Squaresoft back in the day with a brain will agree with everything you said. Don't expect much from Square Enix. There's a reason Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, left the company 8 years ago shortly after the merger. And since then, people have been leaving the company left and right, including most of the original makers of FF.
1st - It's my opinion. 2nd - A good game for me is a game that I enjoy playing. If it gave me excitement, happyness, laughter and sorrow, what more could I ask of it? That's what games are for after all.
Yoshinori Kitase stated that they "didn't really intend to work within with the RPG template," but "wanted to create a new game, even a new genre." He stated that "in a lot of senses FFXIII is more like an FPS than an RPG." But Battle System: I control one-third of the group. If I wanted to play Healer, I'd play WoW. If I wanted to play Rock-Paper-Scissors, I'd call up my bro and do a Skype chat for it. Music: ...it was passable. Characters: Isn't Lightning a Cloud replacement? Just a query.
They said they expected the game to do 6 million easy, it still hasn't broken 5 let alone 6. Also it's sales in Japan were just barely higher than they were here in North America. So they pretty much kills off your opinion of us being blinded by on singular title within the series. I mean hell FF8, FF9, FFX, FFX-2, and FF12 all sold better worldwide. Many of which only had one console to sell on at the time of release. You might wanna accept that many gamers just didn't like it.
You are right the gameplay in their older games are much better. I think the recent ff 13 didn't do so well on the free roam and fighting but I will say they did an amazing job on the art, music and story.
Not to mention the cast of main charecters are: a fun yet generic shoen jump style "man of mystery", a stoner killing people with a volleyball (Wakka), an underaged girl who's only purpose in the game is for creepy fanservice (Rikku), a lion-gorilla (that boring blue guy who I can't even remember), the generic emo goth chick (Lulu), and a water polo celebrity with the emotional range of a styrofoam cup without an iota of said cup's likability.
The problem is that the mainstream keeps flooding this guys mind, so they keep pleasing casual gamers, not their original fans, that actually played quality games.
I wouldn't want the 'current' square enix even remotely touching any of the classics like 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9 for a sequel, cause they'll fuck it up beyond belief..and they know this, thats why they don't fuck with it
10 was one of the best, mainly because Squaresoft was still them at the time. Then Enix got added on and released X-2 -.- 7's story was a little everywhere at times, but made up for its characters. 8 was something that was made by angels. 9 was something that was made by God. But it all went downhill after those days
I got to the part in XIII when Snow and the chick with the silly side ponytail were flying around with fireworks going off, and I thought I was playing a glorified chick flick movie with swords and guns.
You do know that part of the ending of FF13-2 you had to pay for a lightning dlc. Then all of the arena bosses you had to pay dlc for. Except Omega if you had got a pre-order code. And Sazh had a part in the storyline that you had to pay dlc for to get as well. If you don't believe me you are free to look this up. And i am sure you know of this since you got Gilgamesh as an optional ally to use.
I've never been into Final Fantasy that much, but my big issues with Square Enix is that they have developed not one or two, but three recent games with Nintendo since the first amazing attempt with Super Mario RPG. None of the characters from that reappeared in these three games. Only a bit of music from the game appeared in Fortune Street and that's it.
I think the issue with the company stems from the fact that two rival companies merged. square soft had to put out better games before because it was competing with enix. this is exactly why companies should not be allowed to merge, do a co-op game that's fine, but never merge. they fall apart after they do.
I completely agree with you! but I have to say that versus XIII now XV KH3 and XIV look amazing square enix is going back to the square soft we knew and loved!
FFIV, FFV and FFVI were awesome, and FFVI had easily the most diverse cast of characters in the entire series as well as a compelling story and the gameplay essentially perfected everything in FFI straight to FFV. I'm agreeing with you on IX.
cDynasty001 What? FFXII was actually pretty decent. Redeemed my faith in the series after X-2, but then immediately went out the window when XIII came out and the sequels were progressively worse.
"Final Fantasy XIII received generally positive reviews. It was rated 39 out of 40 by the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. Dengeki praised the game for the battle system, stating that the battles are by far the most exciting in the series, and concluded Final Fantasy XIII deserved a score of 120, as 100 would not be enough. in January 2010, it was voted the best game ever in Famitsu's reader poll." -Wikipedia I haven't played FF in a decade so I don't understand this after watching this video.
Mind if I ask a quiestion AlphaOmegaSin, what is your opinion on studios like Naughty Dog, Saint Monica Studios, Ubisoft, and Konami. From what I heard they are doing a great job, Ubisoft revolutionized next gen gaming with Assassins creed, and Naughty Dog is coming out with a zombie based horro game that will be completely different from mainsteam expectations. What is your opinion on these things?
Probably not many people here agree with me, but I still really enjoy Level-5, Nippon Ichi and Idea Factory myself. Square Enix's decline is obvious to me, though.
read in electronic arts that the directors of mass effect will be making the main titled final fantasy games from now on. here's hoping they can bring some of the magic back to the series.
Final fantasy is an RPG that originated in Japan. So Square Enix has to tend to their fans before the rest of the world. I really wish that FF13 had more going for it, then just the story, but You guys can't say It wasn't an amazing story with great visual effects. Go back to your roots Square. I miss you...
@AlphaOmegaSin what did you think about the dissida 1 and 2 games? dissida 1 was good for its certain style but 2 felt more of, like, Advent childern: complete was, like the first dissida was a taste of it.
There was a sequel for vagrant story in the works called fortress but it got canceled, you can see a video of it on youtube. That game really really needed a sequel, awesome story, outstanding music, I have the rood inverse tattoo on my back.
FFXIII artwork and music is crap?, OMG the "fans" rage blind them from enjoying great games
I thoroughly convinced that Atlus is the next Square-Soft. I co-sign everything this great man has said. He's like a prophet summoned to save all of the gamers who ACTUALLY experienced the golden age of RPGs.
Squaresoft became shit when they were bought out by Enix.
that shitty movie the spirits within killed squaresoft when it flopped and bankrupt them.
This video made me a fan, alpha. I wish you'd do more rant videos of this type, they are hilarious (and true.)
Say what you want about Final Fantasy XIII, but the music was anything BUT lame. In fact it's even better than the music I heard in other Final Fantasy games.
......... :/ Dude. Are you serious? I guess you're the target market now. Stay away
Christopher Pullen Maybe you don't like that style of music, but there really are some awesome tracks in this game.

Blitz, FF6's Music makes FF13's music look like Atari 2600 music
Connor Davis You couldn't be anymore wrong.
Connor Davis
lol It's not THAT bad! Besides,XIII has symphonic style music. That's never really terrible unless of course you swear by electric guitars and whatnot.
Kingdom Hearts is shit. It ONLY caters to people who have an insane and almost unhealthy nostalgia towards Disney.
XIII is a joke. XII was better thought out.
12 was just an offline MMORPG, with barely any story that was a ripoff of Star Wars, as well as the characters (clones of Han Solo, Leia, Darth Vader..). and yes, FF7 is overrated.
They've rereleased 4 twice now, and they actually were faithful adaptions that everyone seemed more than satisfied with.
The started messing up becuz they merged with Enix
Alpha, can you update this video? Square Enix deserves yet another awesome rant!
FFXV, Kingdom Hearts 3, FFVII Remake
Square is back bitches
+Carnel G no theyre not, these games also look terrible(except kh3). dont let the hype fire spread to your pubes.
+Carnel G Kingdom Hearts is not the kind of game that I would enjoy and FFVII can't is garbage compared to Wild Arms: Alter Code f and Valkyria Chronicles, which FFXV can't even hold the candle to.
FFXV took 10 years to make.
People have been waiting for KH3 since 2006
And I guarantee FFVII won't be out till 2019/20.
Square is not back.
FFXV took 10 years to make.

damn.. i love your channel
that's exactly what i thought abt squarenix
i love the old squaresoft
Dragon Quest is still good though. I find it funny how when Final Fantasy started getting worse and worse DQ started getting better and better. The only things I buy from Square Enix now are Dragon Quest games. I'm looking forward to DQX if SE ever decides to release it in the states.
FF13 has unique qualities..1. Failing (with flying colours)2.Autobattle (Ties in with 1)3. Corridors ( Everyone who played it cannot have any issues walking those)
I won't repeat myself again. I've already played through the classics, and am still playing.

Square Enix is the personification of "Either you die a hero, or you live long enough to become a villain".
It should be mentioned that the Sony Playstation wouldn't even exist without Squaresoft and FF7. 1st - It's my opinion.
2nd - A good game for me is a game that I enjoy playing. If it gave me excitement, happyness, laughter and sorrow, what more could I ask of it? That's what games are for after all.
Yoshinori Kitase stated that they "didn't really intend to work within with the RPG template," but "wanted to create a new game, even a new genre." He stated that "in a lot of senses FFXIII is more like an FPS than an RPG."
But Battle System: I control one-third of the group.
Let's just hoppe versus 13 isn't a total flop, thankfully they assigned the better team to that project.
Not to mention the cast of main charecters are: a fun yet generic shoen jump style "man of mystery", a stoner killing people with a volleyball (Wakka), an underaged girl who's only purpose in the game is for creepy fanservice (Rikku), a lion-gorilla (that boring blue guy who I can't even remember), the generic emo goth chick (Lulu), and a water polo celebrity with the emotional range of a styrofoam cup without an iota of said cup's likability.
as soon as I remember this happening, i knew there was no way
This dude is the zenith of a hardcore metal fan. Rock on!
The problem is that the mainstream keeps flooding this guys mind, so they keep pleasing casual gamers, not their original fans, that actually played quality games.
That said, if you search the term "selling out" on Wikipedia, Square Enix is mentioned. Found that hilarious yet sad at the same time...
all of us who truly knew the depths of the old school final fantasies have our same thoughts voiced in this rant...
Square Enix is finally returning to old school with Bravely Default For 3ds.
bravely default was a return to form for them but also with new great ideas, which is great!
Dragon Quest is better than Final Fantasy
My goodness, I really don't wanna see Square turn into like the next Capcom or something...
The World ends with you on the DS is really awesome
Nomura still knows what hes doing with all those KH games
I wouldn't want the 'current' square enix even remotely touching any of the classics like 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9 for a sequel, cause they'll fuck it up beyond belief..and they know this, thats why they don't fuck with it
"You can't make a sequel to a sequel".....Yeah....about that......
If the father of my mom's friend hadn't given me his final fantasy 7 and 8 ...I would have never become a otaku.
They are not learning. they are making a sequel to the sequel of the infamous FF13
10 was one of the best, mainly because Squaresoft was still them at the time. Then Enix got added on and released X-2 -.-
7's story was a little everywhere at times, but made up for its characters.
8 was something that was made by angels.
9 was something that was made by God.
But it all went downhill after those days
I got to the part in XIII when Snow and the chick with the silly side ponytail were flying around with fireworks going off, and I thought I was playing a glorified chick flick movie with swords and guns.
There's only person to blame for Square-Enix existing: Hironobu Sakaguchi!
Sorry, did a mistake. It was Shinji Mikami who created Resident Evil not Keiji Inafune.
Different people making bad games just using words and terms from past games of far higher quality. Its a brand loyalty exercise at this point.
Oh yes... btw, source for opening statement:

Well atleast they gave us the FF up to 10 and 12 for me.
Replay them when you want and truly enjoy the true FF.
@Pixar:Listen to AlphaOmegaSin and CANCEL CARS 3!
I've said this before.
The entire FF franchise should be sold to Compile Heart.
That Wouldn't Work Very Well To Be Honest It'd Be A Bigger Disaster Than It Is Right Now
from 6:00 till today, AOM became AngryOmegaSin
Eventually. The team that covers the console games are busy with Final Fantasy versus XIII.
I completely agree with you! but I have to say that versus XIII now XV KH3 and XIV look amazing square enix is going back to the square soft we knew and loved!
my brothers 2nd favorite final fantasy game is 13
he played 1,2,4,6,7,8,10,10-2 and 12
FFIV, FFV and FFVI were awesome, and FFVI had easily the most diverse cast of characters in the entire series as well as a compelling story and the gameplay essentially perfected everything in FFI straight to FFV.
I'm agreeing with you on IX.
Square died when it merged with Enix
The Bouncer was an awesome game, we definitely need a direct sequel.
easy answer to all that is that hironobu Sakagushi is not on square anymore
Square Enix went downhill the day I first bought final fantasy 12 and was excited to play it. Only to find out it was...boring
cDynasty001 .........
cDynasty001 What? FFXII was actually pretty decent. Redeemed my faith in the series after X-2, but then immediately went out the window when XIII came out and the sequels were progressively worse.
"Final Fantasy XIII received generally positive reviews. It was rated 39 out of 40 by the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. Dengeki praised the game for the battle system, stating that the battles are by far the most exciting in the series, and concluded Final Fantasy XIII deserved a score of 120, as 100 would not be enough. in January 2010, it was voted the best game ever in Famitsu's reader poll." -Wikipedia
I haven't played FF in a decade so I don't understand this after watching this video.
The Soul's series would probably be the only rpg series that I love just for the combat system.
Remember AOS- People want things pretty. That, is it.
you know that the 3rd birthday was supposed to be a spiritual sequel in other words it is its own f***ing game
you mean spiritual successor.
but. I loved twelve. being able to make any character wield any weapon was pretty awesome
@MrMexicanchicken It's no problem. Every DragonQuest up to Dragonquest 8 was published by ENIX. The DS ones are just remakes.
Oh yeah, versus is cancelled, so there go your little remaining hopes.
Probably not many people here agree with me, but I still really enjoy Level-5, Nippon Ichi and Idea Factory myself. Square Enix's decline is obvious to me, though.
When a company goes from fucking badass to wimp, it damages what they do. They need a kick in the ass to get back to how they used to do things.
@tainerjas
No they're not play White Knight Chronicles
read in electronic arts that the directors of mass effect will be making the main titled final fantasy games from now on. here's hoping they can bring some of the magic back to the series.
I find it hilarious that any good SE games nowadays aren't SE developed
They only released one really amazing, yet underrated, game since they merged: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
@xAshe10x online you say, well the second that you enter online, it's not a J-RPG anymore, it becomes an MMORPG, which we're not talking about.
kingdom hearts 3 has been announced, but I'll believe it when I actually see the game disc placed on the store shelf of a vedio game store
@AlphaOmegaSin what did you think about the dissida 1 and 2 games? dissida 1 was good for its certain style but 2 felt more of, like, Advent childern: complete was, like the first dissida was a taste of it.
You need to be in a conference room with these guys -- Capcom too. Nobody can dispute this.
On your last comment, no matter how bad Squenix gets, they'll never be as bad as Rare. Rare is the fallen angel of gaming.
that doesnt alone make up for the sold out game that it was but hamauzu san is a genius
You must have the patience of a saint to make this statement.
I never got far enough into ff13 to see any problems. I stopped when I got my new pc and went back to whatever I was playing at the time.
There was a sequel for vagrant story in the works called fortress but it got canceled, you can see a video of it on youtube. That game really really needed a sequel, awesome story, outstanding music, I have the rood inverse tattoo on my back.
Kingdom Hearts 3....where is it Square-enix.....where the hell is it....its been 12 FREAKING YEARS
I got to the part where you play as Hope for the 1st time and haven't touched it since. Kinda funny how it's not just me thinking its boring.
15 has been announced at e3 this year
The 3rd birthday and the rest of the Parasite Eve stories was books before Square made them into games though...
