Our Biology teacher in 2003 used to tell us that the only difference between Indian whiskey and Indian rum is amount of caramelisation to give the colour otherwise they are both Rum. Isiliye I have always prefered Old Monk over whiskey

Try Single Malt Whisky- Expensive but good for special occasions.
You covered good points. However, when it comes to the question of Scotch , things become precise.when you see the word “Malt” , it has to be from Barley. This is the basic difference between Scotch ( Malt whisky) and American Bourbon , where the grain is Rye.
Another point , all the scotch don’t have the peaty flavour. The smoky flavour comes due to Phenol. There are ppm specifications for that too. Scotland have 5 whisky producing regions. The Islay area has the most famous 3 distilleries and they all produce highly peaty malts - Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Aberlour. They are really class.
The famous Isle of Skye whisky - Talisker (10 yrs old) and the most recent Talisker Skye are peaty too.
I heard that most of the Indian whiskies are made from molasses or grains other than barley.

Even 8PM whiskey was more frequent than Royal Stag in those college days. The whiskey was quite smooth and cheap , it was very economical in those days.

Gr8 analysis, i started analysing now. I used to only drink earlier.
They created the country, ruled for over 100 years and only now they seemed to have figured out how to make Indians drink alcohol and eat meat in mass scale ....in style ...!!! Nice !
I used to be called at jhonny walkers meetings in Taj . For tasting Their version of whiskey. But later I stopped going. But still a member of wine society of India. Gone are those when I used to drinks. But very detailed video
In Scotland Scotch is like their lifeline and pride. Any tampering with Scotch is taken as an offence. They follow 3 rules -
1. The whiskey must be produced in Scotland
2. It has to use Scottish river water.
3. Minimum 3 years of aging.
The color of the whiskey comes from the wood of the oak casks.
Also scotch can be divided into 5 types mainly according to their region of origin - Highland, Lowland, Isley, Speyside and Campbelltown. Their taste and aroma depends upon these regions. For example the highland ones are creamy in aroma and Isley ones are smokey(if I remember it correctly).
I have been to distilleries in scotchland long back.eg. Ben Nevis Deewar's.

@@avinashghodke7782 Yes usually it is. Like if you buy Teachers you will see Highland cream written as type of the whiskey so it is from the highland region of scotland. Similarly some mentions Isle or Speyside indicating the region.

Dada, I think india should make some regulations for whiskey. After that india can creat very nice whiskey. Distelry should open in darjiling and near Kashmiri. We can produce whiskey like Japan after that.

Yeah. Even between Scotch whiskey types, Islay whiskies are really smoky. Take Laphroig for example.

Scotch whisky... Means made from the water or Scotland.. With various items.. Malt.. Use of cask.. Oak.. Aged in no of years.
Indian whisky..
Which 90% made from molasses.. Means.. Its kind of rum... 🙏
And prices with 200 percentage of taxes..
In other words, it's relatively easier to fool Indians
Then what about blenders Pride, Oaksmith gold, oaken glow etc which don't have molasses??
