Johann David Heinichen is a vastly underrated Baroque composer whose tuneful and sophisticated music I can certainly drink to.
In the (approximate) season of Oktoberfest, we salute your not-too-(sch)maltzy punning, in a good cause.

From what I gathered, heinichen's works were stored in an area in dresden that was not severely damaged; the 'survival of these manuscripts..truly a miracle from God! Jn
It's the famous " Schrank Nr.3".
The US Air Force did its worst to destroy this wonderfull town, like so many others in Germany and Austria. The build seldom: just distroy.
I'd have to admit I may have somewhat surmised in assuming Heinichen's works were stored in a "safe" area of Dresden of which u r aware was all but scorched in late WW2 bombing. How many manuscripts survived here or elsewhere...l just don't know, l beg yr pardon on this. This we do know: these works r anointed! JN

Superb music if you ask me, Heinichen is a much underrated composer - every note is right there where it ought to be, of a quality similar to Mozart's early works.

Quelle joyeuseté, quelle vivacité, quel entrain dans cette musique ! Absolument génial ! Pourquoi n'est-il pas davantage connu, voire célébré un peu comme Zelenka ??? Un grand grand merci à tous ces musicologues du Baroque comme Reinhard Goebel justement ! Il devrait exister un Prix Nobel pour ces merveilleux interprètes qui nous font découvrir tous ces petits bijoux !!! J'ai oublié le principal : un très grand merci à Ria à qui je suis d'ailleurs abonné... 100000000000000 mercis !! ;-]

In 1710-1716 Heinichen traveled to Venice, maybe he was Vivaldi’s pupil.
Heinichen was so much better than the overrated Vivaldi.

From Wikipedia: (17 April 1683 - 16 July 1729) was a German Baroque composer and music theorist who brought the musical genius of Venice to the court of Augustus II the Strong in Dresden. Johann David Heinichen was born in the small village of Krössuln (currently part of the town Teuchern, in Saxony-Anhalt) near Weissenfels. His father, Michael Heinichen, had studied music at the celebrated Thomasschule Leipzig associated with the Thomaskirche, served as cantor in Pegau and was pastor of the village church in Krössuln. Johann David also attended the Thomasschule Leipzig. There he studied music with Johann Schelle and later received organ and harpsichord lessons with Johann Kuhnau. The future composer Christoph Graupner was also a student of Kuhnau at the time.

It's interesting that Heinichen's Masses don't sound anything like Vivaldi... But his Concerti are intensely Italian-influenced with many Vivaldian features.

I'm hoping to find music that was being listened to while Telemann and Grauper were around. Bach really has the tunes it seems or am I just familiarized to his style more.Pisendel less than Graupner and other.Telemann took on elements of style Galante but disliked it's simplicity.

Heinichen was an excellent composer. At the level of Handel and Telemann, and far superior to the homophonic and monotonous Vivaldi. Without a doubt.
