As a cellist, I assure anyone watching that no matter how difficult you think this is, it is more so... Few can do this in a recording session. A handful can play it "immaculately" as this.
This piece is remarkably difficult to play on a violin... I can only imagine how difficult this must be on the cello, when you factor in longer distance between notes and tighter strings.
This is one of the most astonishing examples of cellistic virtuosity that I've ever encountered. (And beyond the sheer technical ability, he makes music, too, within the purely musical limits of the piece.) Bravissimo!
How on earth do you make this appear to be so effortless, thereby allowing the listener to focus on the music and not the gymnastics? Simply stunning. Fantastic. Wow.
I beg to differ. 1:43 all the way to the tenths is the most difficult variation for both violin and cello imo. Just the sheer amount of reflexes and technique it takes to make a clear tone and play in tune there is quite overwhelming. O ~ o
@@7xrking317 as a cellist, the tenths high up on cello are so close it's so easy. I mean, it's still very hard to get in tune and perfect, but not AS hard.
Few experiences are as richly rewarding as witnessing an artist whose mastery of an instrument is so absolute that the instrument ceases to be anything less than an integral part of the musician's very being.
As a violinist,I’m in awe of this. On the violin, this is a pretty difficult piece. I can only imagine how hard it is on the cello. Props to you for doing this! I can’t believe how clear each note is!
Whoever thinks the cello is "easier" than the violin should try playing this piece on the cello as done here. imho, the cello is both more versatile than the violin (since it has such a vaster range capable of supporting an orchestra as a harmony or soloing as the melody) and also better-sounding, with a much "mellower," more soothing sound. But feel free to disagree.
cello has easier vibrato, but thats about it. The large distances you gotta cover, the pain your fingers have to endure, playing fast on the cello is so difficult
These are my thoughts exactly. While I'm not dogmatic about it, I have a really difficult time seeing why someone would think the cello is an easy instrument.
Not that my comment matters lmao, but as one that plays all Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass, each all have their techniques that make each instrument difficult in their own way. E.g, some technique on Violin/Viola could be way easier on Cello/Bass. In the end, they're all challenging as a whole.
This legend deserves a place in the league of the cellist greats with Slava, Jackie, Starker etc. I’m convinced that this seemingly effortless and breathtaking performance and his stellar technique would give even most of them a run for their money
Ohhhhhhhh man oh man.. how beautifully you have performed.. Cello itself is very difficult instrument and you have performed Caprice 24 on it which is too difficult to achieve.. hats off.. God bless you
10 months ago when i posted that comment, 2 people only disliked this video and i jokingly said "2 people cant even play it their violin", and hes definitely owning it on cello. im not that dumb lol
Oh god I thought Hayden concierto was one of the hardest pieces on the cello I was wrong 😳 lovely playing, I hope I can play like that one day (I’m learning part of the Hayden concierto and I’m thirteen but I want to be a cellist and a pianist)
My friend demands from me to learn this - after two years of lessons now, I consider myself to be an average cellist. But yeah... the sky's the limit...
You will be able learn it but you have to learn still a lot of things before that when you reach the level you can't start with this piece because you won't be able to play it if you are not skilled fast pieces you must learn to play fast pieces and just after this you can learn this on cello trust me i play cello for 9 years, basically practice which makes you perfect talent is just a side thing in music if you put enough effort in something you can reach it but when you learnt a difficult piece you must feel the music in that piece and not just knowing how to play it :) i hope i could help you
Someone please show this to Brett and Eddy
I showed this to my best buddy.
His reaction :
"What kind of sadist wrote this?!"
Haha...
So was Niccolo Paganini...
:)
They used to call the composer a devil too, for how good he was. It was rumoured he even tuned while he was playing. It's 100% meant for the violin.
the devil´s violinist
@@EarlRegent your 2nd sentence doesnt make sense
@@FloxiCZ You don't understand what violin tuning is or tuning while you are playing?

It’s not hard it takes practice
J yesss
Real motivational
Agree
@@paganini4315 right it's not "hard" it's just that there's only a couple hundred people who can actually play it (I'm also a cellist and ur an idiot)
Real heroes don't wear capes
This is... amazing. As if it isn't hard enough for a violin. As a cellist myself, I am shocked by how clear each note is, this is just.... wow
Gus Is Cellist ikr
Gus Is Cellist there are some people who is like Oh its not hard enough Why dont we change the instrument
Gus Kelly ikr right I can’t get a Merry dam e to sound right
I had to sit back in my chair and clap for that one.. Roommate looked at me like I'm an idiot..

+The Grammar Police pointless even imagining playing this on either really

I wish there was a better audio version of yo yo ma playing it ;-;
Anyways
The string pressure too it’s really hard to apply more pressure and release it quickly as opposed to touching lightly

Such a pleasure seeing this man playing this piece, how I wish I could witness this live.

Funnily enough this left hand pizz part sounds very flashy but is probably one of the easier variations

This is still, by miles, the most virtuostic, light, characteristic, and beautiful version on TH-cam.
And theirs me over here playing twinkle little star
We haven't even learned that song yet lol
I think he was playing it too, when he was a begginer :) look at him now :)

Absolute clear and pristine mastery of the instrument. A cellist could ask for nothing more.
I thought playing this on the violin was ultimate!! But on a cello is next to impossible. A great job done here by the maestro!! AMAZING!!
Bravo Mr Smith, I would like to say again - you are one of the best cellist in the World!
My god, this is just mindblowing.....
There are no words for this, it's just incredible
Simply stunning, never heard this played so well on the cello!!
That left handed pizz looks insane!
He took the challenge like a mad lad- and at quite the tempo! The octaves sound even cooler on cello
Truly great cellist!
When it comes to 1:00 and more, I can feel the rage and strong sadness out of the cello, gorgeous and marvellous performance. Thumb up!
3:07 it's so cute when he sighed 😂
I watch this more than once, and yet, I don't understand how can it humanly be done
Errr....ummm....Okay, I will re-value myself at cello playing - I am an embryo cellist....:D
AMAZING !
Hmm, I'm a semen cellist.
this is amazing, pure talent.
Simply AMAZING!!! I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!
That bowing is making me quake. I love this so much. I wish there was a love button. Maybe even a hug button.

Excellent cello playing!.....my compliments!
Oh the soloist makes such a difference! Was just listening to this in the car by Janos Starker and it is almost a completely different piece.
Your vow technique is just amazing..🙂🙂🙂😁
Brilliant ! So many violinist just "can" play this piece, you actually make music.
Most impressive thing is here on 3:39 where he plays the C strings and the arpeggio up without losing any of the C string resonance
buenísimo vídeo, buen pulso, grandiosa interpretación, gran afinación, muy bueno ;D, la verdad, es que da gusto ver personas que toque así

I play cello and I'm in love with this song
I would love to learn how to play it but its pretty complicated
I like how he got up at the end like, "I just nailed dat!".
It looks hard enough on the violin. I can not believe this is possible on the cello. I'm seeing, and still not believing!
Well don't forgett that you can use the thumb on the cello.
You can do everything basically on cello if you are not rest as a pig and also believe in yourself
DVSM but you don’t use your 4th finger in thumb position so
Magnificent!
bravo,excellent technique
Fantastic! Genuine talent in this vid. I wish I could think of something disparaging to say about it - I'm worried I might break youtube
