  • The second part of the wiring Les Paul GREENIE in the style of the fifties.
The project of a copy of the legendary Les Paul Peter Green / Gary Moore is coming to an end and all that is left is to do the wiring of the timbre block and assemble the guitar. In this video, I will show you how to properly do the fifties wiring for Les Paul.

I have heard there was a different wiring that allows full independant volume control while the pickup selector is in Both position. I believe its similar to jazz bass volume pot wiring? I dont know if Gibson ever offered it

I experience the 50s wiring to be more transparent. Also turning down the volume does not make the tone muddy. Especially on humbuckers that can be a problem.
But 50s wiring also drops the volume when turning down the town. Not a big deal to me.
    The pros outweigh the cons.

The great thing about 50's wiring is that when you roll the volume down slightly, the tone control operates differently and can be used to fine tune the midrange. Rolling back the volume and tone on a neck pickup is a great way to clear up your midrange and get a slightly more scooped sparkly tone. Depends a lot on the amp, but this is why people love the 50's wiring. So rather than rolling just the volume down to 4-5 you maybe instead drop it to 8 and then bring the tone way down to achieve a similar but yet different result than you would get by only adjusting the volume. If that makes sense.
