    I'll have to check this kit out. Thanks for giving us a demo and showing us some recovery too!

    I'll keep this in mind if/when I get a winch! The labels and attention to detail makes this a very attractive upgrade to my basic gear.

    Awesome video guys! Really does demystify basic winching for a complete noob such as myself. I will be installing one (most likely the same Come-Up as Chris) in the spring or early summer.
    Keep these great videos coming! They are fun to watch and highly informative!

      Thanks Brian! Yeah, really important to practice and do research for recovery/winching. I was surprised when I had to recover several people within weeks of installing my winch last spring.

    That makes sense, and I like having a kit instead of having to spend the time figuring out what’s what. Too many hobbies I need some shortcuts that don’t cut corners.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah and speaking from experience it’s a bit cheaper too… than buying everything separately.

    • @JasonExplainsThings

      Stuff I would add to it… a shovel and traction boards.

      Did it have a Jack?
      I want to avoid hi lift jacks, having a “accident prone family”.
      The modified floor jacks for off-roading look promising, and badlands has a new one.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@robertspeer Yes, I actually had a flat tire on this trip from a screw on the trail near the fire tower in the video. We used a scissor jack and AEV base from the Ram you see briefly in the video. But I carry the off-road jack I made a video about earlier this year. That new Badlands one is pretty darn cool too.

    Very cool and informative. I love the snatch block mainly because the eye is fully rounded so I can attach it with a soft shackle! The composite wheel probably safe a ton a weight too

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah it being rounded is very nice.

    • @aevnate4140
      @aevnate4140 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is one of the benefits of that rounded eyelet on the snatch block is being able to use a soft shackle without it cutting into the strap. Plus it's easy on the hands when carrying it.

    Nice, I like the idea of an all in one kit. Just takes the hassle out of it - kinda like a med-kit for your truck.

      It's a very thorough kit. I would suggest adding some traction boards and a shovel as well.

    Really enjoyed this video. I recently (5 months ago) traded in my Chevy ZR2 Bison diesel for my wife's car... and after being truckless for what felt like an eternity, I bought a Jeep Gladiator Mojave last Friday... Looking forward to getting the AEV High Flare front bumper setup with a winch. Was not aware of their recovery kit... pretty cool.

    I've yet to winch anything. Just installed a Smittybilt winch to my Bison. After all is installed you cannot see the winch drum. How do you feed the cable on so it winds onto the drum when you cant see it. I'm sure there's a simple explanation.

    • @JasonExplainsThings

      Most cut a small window in the plastic air diverter to see the line.

    dont back out shackle pins after tight

    • @aevnate4140
      @aevnate4140 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a debated topic in the offroad environment. It has been tested that there is a 3% reduction in strength of the anchor shackle when backing it off a half turn, but its failure point is still above the shackles minimum breaking strength (MBS). If you wish to tighten it down all of the way I won't judge you, but the reason why I do it is to be able to remove the pins easier after a pull.

    "This video is not sponsored" -- wait, what? If you get to keep the recovery gear, then you just got sponsored to the tune of $1,000. That being said, I'm buying a kit for myself -- great video, I need this stuff.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally appreciate the gear. It's awesome and you'll love it. But yeah, no money changed hands. Also videos like this take about 50+ hours of work to produce in case you're curious.

    Have you put any more thought into renaming this channel (since it's mostly off road stuff now) and having another channel for more varied stuff? I know the TH-cam gods probably like more 'focused' content at this stage...

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m planning a refresh… new channel trailer, new banners… making it clear that this is an automotive channel now. But renaming has been discouraged by most.
      And I already have a new side channel setup and I’ll likely start posting there next year. I really appreciate the suggestion. I know it’s a problem and I’m trying to solve it.
