I mean, I always had a feeling he was gonna be a bad guy, but I wasn't expecting him to be *this* dark. He's straight-up murdering NPCs on-screen! Definitely my new favorite boss!

Who would've thought that Chef Saltbaker would be even more sinister than the Inkwell Devil himself? Glad to see that Saltbaker's learned his lesson, though.

I gotta say i think the reason chef saltbaker seems more evil than the devil is because you can actually see him being cruel to the objects in the background of his fight. The devil just kind of sits there just vibing. Maybe the devil was originally supposed to have something similar to saltbakers fight but the devs ran out of time?

Nah the devs wanted them to have their own personality, devil fight has a more funky song, so they just wanted to be that way.

@@alexsilva28 because it seemed like an unnecessary annotation to a positive comment on the quality of the DLC and it's animation. The way it's worded sounds like a correction rather than an addition, that's all.
I felt bad for all the poor ingredients we've gathered being sliced, pounded and diced and being used against us. Specially for the big sugar cube that looks like the Stay Puft villain from ghostbusters and the crate with the gnome berries.
I feel bad for the sugar cube guy. He looks like he doesn't wanna be there.

I love how on the boosfight you can see saltbakers's body straight up dead on the background of the final phases but then after defeating him he's there like nothing happened
Astral plane think charles Xavier and his son David Haller. They can influence reality but it requires the mind itself to accept that illusion of perception to be reality that's why the word Astral in nature refers to a illusion.
I think that he put himself back together or maybe a different saltbreaker he was using

Well, I beg to differ. The chef doesnt just spawn as if nothing happened. There is still some glass chards and a lot of salt laying around before the bakery comes down.

I think that was just some sort of overlay or suit he gained from the mushroom.
But games are more fun when some things remain a mistery, of course.

The credits being in an old E.C. Segar comic style is very complimentary to the game's 1930's cartoon style, and I love every damn frame of it
Hey, in the Epilogue, Chalice has a body! She got her wish! Must've taken a long time, but she found her way back to life
Lots of satanic references in the first one and now necromancy, all under the guise of the cutest 30s cartoon. Love it
I noticed the cake on top of salt Baker‘s platter is the wondertart, Maybe as a forgiveness he fulfilled his promise.

Saltbaker's change from good to bad was very sudden, I have a theory that at that moment either the ambition of power or some external entity controlled it at that time, I believe that the Wondertart without a living soul does not give you domain control to the astral world, but only lets you revive and die whenever you want
She got her wish.. after witnessing her friends in action to save her one more time.

It’s actually disturbing in his first phase he’s chopping up living food and using them as weapons.
The fact that he is using the ingredients you collected from the bosses as projectiles
I actually found his last phase (or last 2 phases, ones after he breaks) disturbing the 1st time I saw the dlc

I know the Devil in this game is supposed to be more scary but I feel like Saltbaker is more scary. It gives me more uncanny vibes especially the design and his attacks he does

the same shape and structure if that dude had his whole top of his head broken off.
Cuphead always had over the top animations with little actual consequences. Many bosses go through phases transition that show them being killed or severely maimed but they end up midly beaten up at worst once the fight is over.
@@blackbloom8552 is right. Except if the opposite is confirmed, all bosses survive their fight with Cuphead and co.
I honestly love how they made Chef Saltbakers finger break once he snapped his fingers during the 2nd stage, since he is made of glass

Honestly this boss was like the boss ever
When I fought him. I beat him first try. At first I was underwellmingly disappointed, but now I realise that a bug happened that let me beat him on regular with one stage, because the game froze the boss and I could still hit him. I have been robbed.
Have no idea why you wouldn't have thought it was a bug at first wow.

I honestly thought that he was going to be the villain but not in the way that it shows. I thought he was gonna have a cook off or he was making it and unintentionally using the ingredients against us but not him being out as evil.

Incredible animation and art style, I wish I was good at such high difficulty games, I have nerve damage in my hands and arms and can’t play such games like fromsoftware etc, I wish such games have easy mode so it’s more accessible

I like that depending on who you're playing as Chef Saltbaker can grab any one of the three. Wouldn't have expected that neat detail.
In hindsight, wouldn't mugman be the hardest soul for him to capture, as you'd need two players to use cuphead and miss chalice at the same time for him to capture mugman?

I think what makes saltbaker scary is two things
He talks down to Cuphead and Mugman and by extension,the player trying to intimidate them to back away and that something is going horribly wrong
And he kills most of the ingredients who look terrified, panicking as a knife or chisel came through them,killing them

After watching this fantastic boss fight I realize they forget to put the pineapple animation scene in the whole Chef Saltbaker Final Boss battle! 💁🍍
