My favorite thing about Shawn's interviews is how he lets the guest talk, and only asks questions or makes comments when its crucial. Expert interviewer Shawn, well done.
Oh lord, we used to party in TJ on the weekends and I grew up on an Indian reservation, Ed isn’t kidding about bribes, adaption, and honing social skills. People doubting the efficacy of Eds suggestions need to get out more. He summed it up well when he labeled it “hood rat” shiz. And he’s just scratching the surface and showing the well known stuff. Ed is that friend everyone should have and that the pampered are fascinated by. Let’s just be grateful that a dude like Ed decided to be a good dude, always remember there are people out there that are much more dangerous and aren’t as well intentioned. HooYah!
Every time I get an alert for Vigilance Elite videos, I fake diarrhea so I can hang out in the bathroom without the wife and kids. I think the wife is on to me 🤦🏼♂️
Great segment Shawn, any time Ed is available please keep him involved. As a civilian who simply wants to be prepared and take care of the ones I love his and your info that y’all share is priceless. We benefit from what y’all are willing to communicate. Like Ed said you don’t know what you don’t know but once you know it, you can adopt it, master it or ignore it. Not gonna lie, I did get me one of those Floral Pioneer woman knives, my wife’s gonna be like 🤔 when I tell her “no babe, that’s for me” ha!
This is by far the longest EDC/pocket dump video on TH-cam. And, the best. It will also be the most viewed EDC/pocket dump video on TH-cam. Ed Calderon should be called "ED C" because he is the master of it. Ed was pulling things out from every pocket, pouch, stitch, crevice, and orifice. The people have spoken: Vigilence Elite should have a recurring and regular series with Shawn and Ed together because their content is awe- and fear- inspiring.
Money is a true tool of escaping in TJ. My dad and I got mugged by police when we went to pick up our family from the airport. Dumped my dads wallet empty. My dad didn’t want me in that situation let alone himself. RIP Dad. Gave what he had for the safety and for what he could do outside of his environment.
Great interview and breakdown. Ed is someone who takes non permissive/high threat knowledge to a whole new level. He always makes me realize how little i know, which pushes me to train more. The hemostats on the label is brilliant and so many uses. That TQ is made by Tacmed solutions. But the points Ed brought up about Hi-Viz TQ use is absolutely true. In a bloody, low light, high stress situation that moves into starting to strip someone for tactical field care it is surprisingly common for TQs to be cut by mistake thinking it is a piece of webbing not what I keeping someone alive. I personally carry hi-Viz on all but a handful of TQs in my larger kits. EDC is orange. The ability to lash gear I've used but moving metal is something I wouldn't have thought of, I have seen them used to secure a automatic door closer when clearing areas. Cigarettes are a great tool for gathering info, ask for a light and start talking, give someone a light cigarette and they will chat, and if you're smoking standing outside pretty much anywhere no one will question your intention.
Most non-smokers won’t know why you would pack the cigarettes. Packing a new pack from your pocket would definitely let smokers know that you are one of them. It’s the details that sell the story.
I'm a bit late to comment but I've recently watched several videos about and with Ed Calderon and I must say they were both amazing and eye-opening. He seems such a nice unassuming person, but is basically the most dangerous man in the room no matter where he goes. His concepts and mindset convinced me to at least prepare differently when traveling.

That guy's sharp. How folks perceive you can often times dictate how interactions will go. Ed provided a lot of interesting information on soft skills and projecting an image with body language. Really liked that portion. Useable by anyone
I have to give credit where credit is due. Some have changed their rhetoric to lesser or greater degrees but you haven’t. As a result, you have earned my respect.
I found myself thinking after I watched this video that some of these skills would be vary useful/effective if I could learn them. I didn't realize that I learned some stuff just be watching the video. Thanks Shawn and Ed, your guy's knowledge may seem trivial to you, but I can't tell you how grateful I am for information like this.
Shawn- your channel just gets better and better. Your choice of guests are great. As for Ed, behind that unassuming facade lies the mind of a madman.....in the best way a man can be a madman. Keep up the great work.
Psychologically manipulating you with that empty pocket. "See,,, I'm no threat". He's not looking for enemies,,, he's looking for friends and now he just made you think he's one. Boom! Now he's also got a dollar in that pocket you gave him. :)
Shawn already had an outstanding channel but man bringing Ed on raised the bar. The pocket dump might be my favorite thus far as the lessons are invaluable. I feel hearing his perspective in these few videos has made me a better American. We're a pretty self-centered country. The concerns detailed by Ed in this session & the previous one shouldn't be so foreign to us as a populace. Our leaders are informed which begs the question even more, WTF are they doing?
@Myles O'Peter This guy is the Mexican Einstein, he’s a really genius next level guy, never seen such a strong first 5-10 minutes to an instructional. Amazing insight.
@@MobileAura dude, he's going over things most normal men living in narco territories (including me) that carry shit like this. There's nothing astonishing about his knowledge...it's all freely available and if you put in an hour a day for a couple weeks reading certain places (d web 🕸 is a good start, but their are open sites) you'd know this. Or just live on the border region in Mexico like I do. And if you consider this guy our country's Einstein, then we have much bigger issues than I thought.
@Myles O'Peter It's a sad state of affairs when these things are such a necessity. If anything it should make people in western/relatively safe countries more appreciative of how good they have it.
This is in my Top 3 list of videos on your channel, tied with your Eddie Gallagher interview and Katie Jean's interview with Andrea Gallagher. Your long discussion with Ed Calderon was good, thought provoking, & informative; but the focus on mindset & (literally) making what you need in this video is refreshing and excellent.
I enjoyed every minute of that episode! I would love to hang out with Ed . I can’t believe how much I just learned. I had to become street smart, at a certain point of my life…but truly I knew nothing compared to this man
I feel like I could watch an hour of you and Ed every day. I grew up in relative privilege even by US standards and I learn so much every time I see you two together.

The steak Knife my cousins and I used to carry these as kids growing up in central California in the 90s. We used to wrap it with the cardboard from the cereal box and electrical tape. Carried it just like he did inside the waistband
I love the social engineering aspect Ed spoke of. I have "gotten what I want" plenty of times with a little bit of manipulation. How you approach and the impression you give is everything. I dont smoke anymore but I have all the mannerisms. Give me a cigarette and I will join the smokers in conversation easily.
Just recently started watching the Shawn Ryan Show. Man I can't get enough of these episodes. Great host. In this episode specifically Ed is amazing too. Learned so much. Man people need to watch stuff like this more often. Thank you for your show!!!!!!
When he was talking about the saver wedge door alarm and the other things that can be done with it that he can’t talk about. Basically what he was thinking is an electronic trigger device for what ever you want to connect it to. It acts as an electronic trip wire. Pretty much a relay. Same can be done with the personal alarm. When he was talking about hiding the cuff shim next to a rivet on pants is similar to how people sneak knifes into night clubs. You wear a belt with a metal buckle, clip your blade behind it on your boxers under your pants. The wand goes off on your crotch they see the metal buckle maybe tap it to see if it’s metal, and wave you through. I have never seen this method fail and I have seen it done a lot.
@Hello Newman your rite, but it’s I pretty bad idea to even try that in a federal building. You have to weigh risk to reward. Your odds are a lot lower of needing it in a federal building compared to the jail time you face if busted with it. Chances are even if you did need it there it likely wouldn’t be enough to get you out of that situation given shit probably truly hit the fan if you needed it in a federal building. I would prefer to just improvise in that situation. If you were to go somewhere else were this method wouldn’t work they also make ceramic and micarta knifes. That aren’t going to set off any metal detectors.
@Hello Newman look at the bone breaker multi tool. It’s the multi tool for this situation where they won’t let you have a blade on it. Passes through airport security no problem. Chances are this guy you are speaking of will find a reason for anything though. If so bring a roll of quarters in just as a fuck you to him. Used that or a lighter a lot as a youth and they make a difference.
They always asked me to unbuckle and pull the buckle out of the way at the airport so they could wand again (before they started making you take it off all together).
@@isaacdrake yeah I wouldn’t even try that at an airport. I’m talking about night clubs. You can just check in a weapon in a lock box at the airport and take it with you legally. They put it in with the rest of the cargo away from passengers.
Ed has displayed an amazing proficiency in real tactical equipment. My favorite part thus far is the pack of cigarettes. I used to smoke i dont anymore, you would be surprised how that skill has saved me many times.
You bring the best content out there. No joke. Ed brings great perspective to every topic! There hasn't been a show with him without multiple take takeaways!
Ed's Counter Custody Entry course is worth the tuition... Tools without the Training only get you so far. Practicing handcuff and zip tie escape after being searched, while your head is duct taped, sirens blaring, hosed down with water in a tiny closet covered in plastic sheeting with 5 other hot bodies to trip over... knowing you can escape, and when to try, worth every penny. "Once you're in the room with a shit bucket, you're at the end of the line, and probably never getting out." -Ed's Manifesto
This should be MANDATORY for everyone who wants to live and wants their loved ones to live. Very down to earth and very intellectual in the sense that it's real world and thru experience! Thanks Ed! Thanks Shawn!

Interesting. I'm a US citizen, Navy Vet, in my early 30s. Used to live in Tijuana B.C. for about two years and learned most of this street tactics just getting around in what everyone would consider the bad neighborhoods or tourist areas. Pretty common knowledge in that urban environment. Fascinating nonetheless. The human mind and overall spirit cannot be separated from means of survival and will adapt.
The spot you keep a handcuff shim. That's where inmates hide razors. Now they somehow get the ceramic ones. Frisking is a skill and this conversation helps me see the other side. This is great stuff
I work in a big city and usually in the rough parts of town. I do many of the things Ed discussed just not purposefully. It's good to know who's in charge when you're working on their block and look like a cop stereotype. Fantastic insight.
@Ed.....a good point to bring to the table is knowing not just where youre at, but who the enemy is in that area, for example, anyone with si****a plates in ti****** could be targeted and the other way around, you wouldnt want to " think " youre blending in, while actually flagging yourself an enemy, jerseys, colors, attire, plates, teams, tattoos, etc....
My father was LE for 34 years. Most of that was in uniform working patrol in gang infested cities in Texas during the 80’s and 90’s. He never discharged his weapon in the line of duty, 15 years of which he was a SWAT team member in cities like Houston. He’s very much in this headspace. Now, I’m a car salesman and I’m amazed at how much of my father’s and Ed’s mindset resembles that of a skilled salesman. He is absolutely correct that relationships are everything. They are your way to success and safety. Lots of this advice has direct translation to regular professional life. I learned early on that you have to smile and treat everyone you meet like an old friend you’ve known for years. I keep things like cigarettes and a lighter or phone chargers for every device at my desk or in my pocket. I still carry cash and change for coffee stops while on test drives. I make conversation with employees everywhere I go and tip as much as possible so employees remember me and if they remember me they’re more likely to give better service or do a favor if needed. I always credited my dad for giving me the gift of gab and knowing how to build social capital everywhere I go. I’m glad Ed’s out there teaching people how to develop their social skills in this manner. I feel like most people would benefit from it.

HooYah!
If most “good guys” had a quarter of this knowledge , the world would be a safer place. Isn’t that something ? Thanks Ryan and Ed Awesome show.
Every time I get an alert for Vigilance Elite videos, I fake diarrhea so I can hang out in the bathroom without the wife and kids. I think the wife is on to me 🤦🏼♂️
I thought I was the only one, I hear ya brother, same here. 😂

I am so thankful that we have people like Sean and Ed on our side! America truly needs men like them to protect the 99% of the helpless herd.
RIP, Dads are hero’s
That why we support America. Don’t look back look ahead.

Light years better than any EDC content I've ever seen. Nice work.
Most non-smokers won’t know why you would pack the cigarettes. Packing a new pack from your pocket would definitely let smokers know that you are one of them. It’s the details that sell the story.
Same with dip. You learn how to pack 1-2 hits, open and pinch with one hand
a quick realisation here.... i just learned more knowledge in about an hour from Ed than in 20 years of modern day scholing.......
It's obvious.
I learned more after getting expelled from high school and gluing myself to a screen. Traded people skills for practical skills.
Just means you grew up shy or sheltered
I'm a bit late to comment but I've recently watched several videos about and with Ed Calderon and I must say they were both amazing and eye-opening.
He seems such a nice unassuming person, but is basically the most dangerous man in the room no matter where he goes.
His concepts and mindset convinced me to at least prepare differently when traveling.
"A lot of people that wanna grab my package." Shit, I'm dying here man, lmao.
So you one of them people huh?.....🤣
I posted my comment then saw yours
Ed is without a doubt the most interesting people I've personally ever heard interviewed anywhere. They make movies based on guys like him.
I’ve heard there might actually be a movie coming out about him. Just a rumor though afaik.
DEA run the cartels in Mexico. Look into Genaro Luna. Luna worked directly with Obama, now Luna is waiting trial for connections with the cartels. ...this because Amlo and Trump ended USA's money making drug war in Mexico (Merida Initiative / Fast & Furious, made half billion $$ for US weapons manufactures), so USA started 'arresting' some key players. Luna has been waiting for trial in New York (Luna arrested December 9, 2019), in the mean time, USA has killed off witnesses ( helicopter crash in Mexico) destroyed evidence, etc. Chapo is DEA, he is witness protection. .... Amlo and Trump cut the deep stat's drug income stream.
Ed spread mis information about Mexico.... USA is losing control of Mexico, China
For years I thought I had my EDC figured out and squared away. This video has shown me otherwise and I’ll be adjusting accordingly. Great video thank you Ed and Shawn
Ed should be more of a regular on this show... this is the only show he gets to display his tools and his knowledge.
When a society is unarmed is what hits me the most
This is one of the BEST videos on TH-cam. Straight up nuclear knowledge bomb.
Shawn- your channel just gets better and better. Your choice of guests are great.
As for Ed, behind that unassuming facade lies the mind of a madman.....in the best way a man can be a madman.
Keep up the great work.
The series with Ed are honestly some of the best parts of this Channel
I couldn’t smash the like button hard enough on this video, probably the most solid and resourceful information and EDC dumps I’ve ever seen
I feel like Ed could have air in his pocket and somehow he'd still be the deadliest guy in the room 💪♥️🇺🇸
They don't call him the Mexican 007 for nothing.
@Myles O'Peter exactly!!

I feel like I could watch an hour of you and Ed every day. I grew up in relative privilege even by US standards and I learn so much every time I see you two together.
This guy has seen some sh*t the majority of us would not be prepared for. You can see it in his eyes. There's some darkness there, but also some incredible wisdom. Great video.
The steak Knife my cousins and I used to carry these as kids growing up in central California in the 90s. We used to wrap it with the cardboard from the cereal box and electrical tape. Carried it just like he did inside the waistband
Love it how Ed talks back “heh Ed, why would you do this…” etc! Class act yet so humble. 2 thumbs up 👍🏼
I love the social engineering aspect Ed spoke of. I have "gotten what I want" plenty of times with a little bit of manipulation. How you approach and the impression you give is everything. I dont smoke anymore but I have all the mannerisms. Give me a cigarette and I will join the smokers in conversation easily.
By far the coolest and most enlightening edc pocket dump ever.

I've learned so much on this channel. Thank you Ed and Sean

Ed's Counter Custody Entry course is worth the tuition... Tools without the Training only get you so far. "Once you're in the room with a shit bucket, you're at the end of the line, and probably never getting out." -Ed's Manifesto

I had a survival instructor once told me the more knowledge you have the less equipment you need.
Life is still easier with it, though.
I watched this a few times now and REALLY LISTENED to Ed , this is brilliant !! Ive studied psychology and hes a WEALTH of great knowledge.
The ad for “simply safe” “ somebody always trying to grab my package” cracked me up 🤣
Mind blown! The simplicity and creativity are just incredible!
The spot you keep a handcuff shim. That's where inmates hide razors. Now they somehow get the ceramic ones. Frisking is a skill and this conversation helps me see the other side. This is great stuff
Like Ed said, "part of why I teach this is so you can detect when a badguy is using this against you."
I work in a big city and usually in the rough parts of town. I do many of the things Ed discussed just not purposefully. It's good to know who's in charge when you're working on their block and look like a cop stereotype. Fantastic insight.

I freaking love Ed, this man is on point with the knowledge and skills he's sharing. Excellent stuff right here.
