  • Tom Quayle Review the 2020 SE Hollowbody II Piezo from Paul Reed Smith Guitars. Billed as combining the power and stability of a solid-body electric guitar with the captivating resonance of a hollowbody instrument-the 58/15 “S” loaded hollowbody is designed to look as good as it sounds, with a figured maple top, back and sides as well as a mahogany neck (set-neck construction) with PRS trademark bird inlays. Tom tells us more.

    As always, Tom does an Amazing Demonstration, great player! Thanks Tom!🎸

    As always, Tom's demos are the best on the web. Logically organized, well played, thorough going over all the details with no fooling around, wasting time. Just good straight vital info. And of course, that guitar truly is a great one. I wish more makers would provide piezo options for their electrics. And wouldn't it be great to get that with a tremolo too!?

    I wish they would’ve put a toggle switch to turn the piezo on/off rather than having to turn the volume up on the magnetic and down on the piezo (or the other way around) to switch on the fly.

    • @FrankFurther
      @FrankFurther 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's two outputs so switching on the fly is as simple as a channel switcher and two cables from the guitar

    Its almost there. Maybe the next iteration will have a useable acoustic tone without having to run IR response pedals.

    Yet another model that takes sales away from Gibson. It's kinda sad for them, but hat's off to PRS.

      @@realtruenorth I'm very much against communism. I am also against companies who sit on their laurels for decades. I respect Gibson, but I'd rather buy the Chinese guitar (PRS is a US company, so the taxes and profit go there and not China) over the overpriced, nothing-special guitar, which has been the same since the 50s, with no attempt to make it better, without ruining its character.

    • @realtruenorth
      @realtruenorth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ptdakos I dont think you read my comment,, I said the guys who want to buy U.S. made guitars are not going to buy Chinese made PRS guitars, so my response to that other guy was basically not to feel bad for Gibson. I dont think we disagree here. Only thing I would say, is I would rather PRS make them all in Indonesia instead of China. But that's for obvious reasons. I own an Indi made PRS, and it plays and sounds great. I do not own a U.S. made Gibson because I am NOT the guy who would buy one.

      Gigging musicians have to make compromises unless you’re in a band playing large venues with a full road crew. I take two guitars to gigs. This would be great as a versatile backup. Of course it’s not gonna sound as good as a top of the range Martin but I’m not gonna take a top of the range Martin to a pub or club gig anyway.

    The quality and features of the SE aren’t necessarily the problem…the true cost of worker exploitation in developing nations is the real issue, for me anyway.

      @@patrickpierson6079 The previous cases with Cortek exploiting their workers in South Korea and being forced out of the country prove that assumption to be false. With goods made in China you don’t really get much of a say though, as a consumer. It’s very different with guitars.

      The hard working folks in Indonesia aren’t who make these guitars aren’t that lucky, unfortunately.
      At the very least I can tell you that without a doubt, the workers who work at PRS in the USA are treated much better than the workers at Cort in Indonesia, even the janitorial staff who clean the damned toilets at PRS…
