Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I've heard other people grumble, but no one has said exactly what I thought - ie no thought given to it all. It would have been so much better to just make a lovely coast to coast trail rather than try and keep as close to the Tamar as possible (which is miles off anyway) for what feels like the sake of it. You should buy yourself a water filter bottle, it’s a game changer on a through hike . But I’ve enjoyed your videos, I am in Cornwall to . Thanks for sharing your experience of this trail 😊
I don't use my water filter in Cornwall because of all the heavy metals due to mining and the run offs from farms, but it's great on places like Dartmoor. And there were miles and miles of this trail where you just aren't near any water sources anyway - which is ironic since it's supposed to follow the river Tamar! Thanks for watching too, I really appreciate it :)
Love you're honestly with how you felt about this trail! Totally understand. We cheated on a few lanes by hitching hiking. ( probably not the safest idea if you're alone) It actually added to the trail as we met a few very interesting and kind people. It was still pretty grotty, though, i was really moaning to my friend saying that this trail could put me off hiking! 😅 xx

I have a friend who mentioned on the official FB page to be careful of the roads and her comment was taken down because "we're promoting the trail and don't want negative comments" - I was speechless, which doesn't happen often!!! I've never hitchhiked before, because I'm on my own as you say, but that would have been an awesome way to do it. And you're right, it's the lovely people you meet that make it. There was even a couple near Calstock who invited me to stay. I thought they meant camp in their garden, but no they gave me a bed, a meal and a shower - absolutely incredible. I might forget the trail but I'll never forget that.
You have confirmed my thoughts - looking at the route when it opened I was concerned about the amount of road walking in particular. The fact that they are country lanes doesn’t mean traffic is slower, in fact it is more dangerous because as we all know vehicles rule the ways! I see you have had some bod accusing you of click bait - a key board warrior, ignore them is my advice! I do think your mind set didn’t help but am aware that is something you have to deal with in your own way. There are SO many great trails in the U.K. no one has to put themselves through a horrid experience. 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words 😊 People are very quick to judge, but I also did it because I write trail guides for my blog, where I give my honest opinion as well as all the details backpackers need to plan their own trip. It's a new trail close to home so it seemed worth a go even though I could see there was quite a lot of road walking. A map doesn't tell you how fast the traffic is or whether you can see over the hedgerows! My opinion, and I make it clear it's my opinion (I hope!), is that if you have limited time (maybe you only have a week's holiday, for eg), I think you'd be better off doing an established trail with guaranteed views (or whatever it is that makes you tick - history, culture, etc) and can get water along the way. I may be new to TH-cam but I'm an experienced hiker and my blog is well established, but I'm still learning here - and I've a lot to learn 😂 And you're right about my mindset on this one - I'd had 3 recent bereavements, including my mum, and was hoping to find some solace - fat chance on this trail! 😂 Thank you again for watching and for your thoughtful comment, I really appreciate it 😊

Launceston is pronounced Lance-sun by the way. While I'm correcting lol, Tamar rhymes with lion-tamer not "orient are". That does seem like a rubbish trail despite some beautiful landscape and river scenes. I'm familiar with much of it.
I'm from Truro, pronounced Trurra! 😉 I do know it's Lansun (there's even a milestone with it on), but most people outside of Cornwall wouldn't know what i was on about. My best friend's daughter is named after the mighty river - well the Cornish side of it anyway haha 😂 The trail is mostly dire, but the old Apple Trail (Tamar Valley Discovery Trail) is a very beautiful section and worth doing in its own right. For much of the route though you don't even see the river, not even in the distance. A missed opportunity for sure.
I share your pain regarding cars bombing along the backroads - they go too fast and modern cars are honking great big things that fill the lanes up leaving little room left for we walkers and cyclists. Electric cars are doubly bad though 'cos you can't hear the beggars coming 🤣 It's a shame this trail didn't live up to its billing, some parts of it looked good, but long stretches were pretty unappealing by the look and sound of it. Walking 80 miles is quite something, and your criticisms are valid, so ignore those who say you shouldn't moan! Anyway, I hope your feet recovered quickly and you're not put off trying new trails out! Best wishes, take care and have fun! 👍

Exactly! And failing that the coast around Bude (including the official end of the trail) is spectacular. It says something when even the very first signpost on the trail is wrong! It's in the intro - see if you can spot it, if you can bear to watch it again 🤣😬 Promise the next vid will be positive - I'm off for a bivvy on the coast!
They built up the hype for this Tamara Way for years saying its going to a purpose built long distance hike when in reality they just stuck a few signs on posts on already existing routes. It cost £3.2 Million as well, where was that money invested? On signage?!

I did do something, I walked 80 miles. It's difficult to be positive about a hiking trail that's 70% road, and I think other people should be aware of that before they take it on. I suggest if you really don't care and don't like it, don't watch it. Go and do something else. Have a lovely day 😊

This isn't the easiest trail. We did it and wild camped. Finish is at Morwenstow.

@@jonstfrancisyes, I hiked the Two Moors Way last year (and the Dartmoor Way too) it's a wonderful trail isn't it, which part did you enjoy most?
