  • It's Warm Up Wednesday here at Dressage Hub. While this video is not technically a dressage warm-up at a horse show, it is a fun look at a schooling session with Catherine Dufour and her horse Cassidy at a clinic with the team dressage trainer. Take a look inside what a training session for one of the best dressage riders in the world looks like!

    Wow! Good for her. Finally a really good ride without all the shenanigans! No yanking and spurring.. Maybe pressure from the public is making some impact. He has lift, impulsion, his hind end is definitely underneath him! His suspension is really good as well. Can't wait to see more ...

    To me it looks like she is riding "behind the bit", which horses don't like, and it makes their neck swell. To be more precise a horse's parotid glands become permanently enlarged and permanently protrudes. This causes the bulging over development of the muscles along the top of the neck. Many Dressage people ride their horse wrong, which is y I don't particularly care for the sport. Plus I don't like all this extra stuff they have on a horse. U can train a horse without a bit and ride a horse without a bit. I mean would u like it if u had a piece of metal over ur tongue that u can't get out. She does have a gorgeous horse though. I just think people need to make these sports better for their horses instead of finding ways to control them better. She does seem to have a good bond with her horse, which many people don't have with their horses. I don't just have a problem with Dressage because I see a lot of mistreatment in other horse sports that shouldn't even be a thing.

      Fr. One of the things I want to do when I will own my own horses is teach them dressage and do the stuff they are doing on competition, but bitless, without spurs and a whip (I ride native horsemanship). To show it does work. I'll also do so with the actual classical dressage training: waiting until the horse is fully grown, do everything from the ground first, small steps and little training only at a time, entirely loose reins. Others have done it, it's possible, but to win, that is just "too much", as in competition, money is a lot more important than horse welfare (no matter what anyone says)

    I just hope people r learning to ride their horses right, and not ride them wrong because many do ride wrong. Riding "Above the bit and Behind the bit" is wrong and many do it. " On the bit" is the right way to ride, but I don't think bits should be used because I know personally u can do all these sports without a bit. It might take more training, but it's better for u and ur horse. Just imagine if u and ur horses positions were switched and u had a bit in your mouth, a rider on ur back, a saddle on ur back, head gear on, a nose band then u have to preform by doing whatever sport u do, and many whip their horses and I absolutely hate that and I'm disgusted by it. I don't think u would want to be in ur horses position with all that going on. No whips need to be used at all. If a horse is scared they shouldn't be forced. Horses need to be warmed up before working out or preforming. They need to be massaged before and after they workout or preform. They need to be loved and well taken care of. Also, horses shouldn't be preforming in whatever sport they r in until their bones r fully developed. Horses r starting to be raced at 2 years old, and that is way too young to start them. By 3l2 they reach about their maximum height and it takes normally 2 more years for them to reach their full height. By 4 to 5 years is when ur horse should be done growing and reach their final height and sometimes 6 is when they r fully done growing, but this isn't the case for all breeds because bigger breeds may take longer to reach their maximum height, which can be until 8 years old. When ur horse reaches 4 to 5 years old they can fill out more over the next 2 to 3 years. At 2 to 3 is when ur horse will normally start having muscle growth. I think working ur horse out at the age of 2 is okay as long as the workout is strenuous on them. Starting ground work and getting them used to things is okay. They shouldn't start racing or preforming until I think 4 years old. Way too many horses r hurting themselves because they aren't fully developed yet. I don't know this lady personally, so I don't know if she has done all this stuff, but her horse does look like she's well taken care of and healthy, which is good.

      I don't get you'r post tbh. You are reacting on a 18 year old horse, who is very soon going to be retired. He have never had long periods of damage because of riding him and training him. His self carrage is so amazing, and he got so much push from his hind legs.......you really needed to post all your comments on a video of Cassidy?? Take a look instead of a perfect riden horse, who loves to work. Ty. Sorry but sometimes i get so tired of ppl negative comments instead of seing when it's really nice training. You could make a note somewhere where it's needed?

      @@magstine this comment was made to horses in general of what I see in person, and what I see on videos. I posed more than one comment, and I did say it looked like she had a good bond with her horse because her and her horse r moving comfortably and together, and I said her horse looked perfectly healthy. More people treat their animals wrong than right. I wasn't signaling her horse out. I said it looked like she was riding her horse "Behind the bit", but I didn't judge her or say anything bad about her or her horse. I simply stated horses should be taken better care of in general cuz there is many that don't get the care they need. The comment wasn't directed to her and her horse specifically it was toward all the horses around where I see this type of stuff happen.

      @@magstine please tell me how you see self carriage? when has behind vertical riding been 'perfect'?

  • @vibeskouenborg6842
    @vibeskouenborg6842 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    DISASTER RIDING. Why do train in double bridle? why behind vertical? (but that reveals why all her competition riding also is behind vertical when she does it in training). Stop the video at 1:01 and 1:18- here it is very easy to see that the back is hanging, hindlegs works behind the horse- all because of hyperflexion. In the piaf the front is supposed to lift- not only the neck. The poll is supposed to be highest,- not the 2.-3. vertebrae. The curb rein kind ogf force the horse to stay BTV and that prevents the horse to carry himself.

    • @claudia273
      @claudia273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know the front actually isn’t supposed to lift in the piaffe, it’s physically impossible. Cassidy actually has a decent piaffe-technique, with a nice tilt in the quarters. An easy check is always the tail-ground distance. Compare it with the collected trot, it’s quite a difference. Cassidy’s issue with the piaffe is the rhythm.
      I agree about the curb rein. The usage of the curb bit in the GP nowadays doesn’t have much to do with the intended purpose
      I also wish they had requirements for the adjustment of the curb bit. (A 45 degree rule or something like that) Limiting the pressure of the headpiece will be difficult, but assuring there’s a maximum and minimum angle will be a start.

      @@claudia273It is possible. There are many, many horses, who, despite not being ridden correctly all the time, have a proper piaffe, where the hind is lowered and the front is lifted.

    • @claudia273
      @claudia273 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vivientakacs5599 not really though. It only seems like that’s happening.
      Put a ruler next to it, and it will stay on the same height. The bounce does not become more and a horse doesn’t have extendable legs 😉

    • @vivientakacs5599
      @vivientakacs5599 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@claudia273 It doesn't just seem so. Professional riders have pointed this same thing out already... besides, the FEI rules themselves state so. If the horse doesn't have extendable legs...then what is extended walk/trot/canter?? They even have tendons that do the extension like the extensor carpi radialis and the lateral digital extensor tendon.

    • @claudia273
      @claudia273 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vivientakacs5599 an extended trot is an longitudinal extension. The horse prolongates it’s steps. I don’t really see how this would make your point?
      And maybe you should read the principles, they do not state that the withers should lift. Because they know that’s impossible.. it only states that the quarters should be lowered.
      Just to be sure, you understand that with ‘the front’ I mean the withers? Not the poll?
      Lowering the quarters does not result in a lifted front.

    She did good with keeping still and connecting with her horse where they were one. No pulling on the reins, no kicking, the horse isn't throwing its head all around.
