    Mario canta con emissione di voce meravigliosamente morbida così come sono invidiabili i suoi volumi di voce che, per grandezza ed espressività , riescono a colpire fortemente tutte le anime di assetati di bellezza ed espressività . Incredibilmente bella e squillante e corposa è la qualità della sua voce e ogni volta che lo ascolto il mio cuore corre per via delle grandi emozioni che egli sa farmi provare.

    .....voices like MDM don’t exist any more. The opera market has developed towards smaller voices, what a pity! Italy did not produce any voice of similar quality, a stage titan like MDM. Singers nowadays still try Otello etc. despite official statement not having the voice for those roles....
    So MDM reigns supreme on historical recordings like this. And leaves the audience - mostly historical uninformed- speechless.

    Mr. Del Monaco's arm movements are an expression and extension of both voice and intention. Only and idiot who does sing this kind of music cannot appreciate what it does when one is singing it. It's a matter of thrust of energy, like a swordsman cutting through. It helps Monaco produce an open, full, sustained, ringing tone. Good.

    • @jamesnickoloff6692
      @jamesnickoloff6692 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but I find his arm and hand movements ridiculous and distracting. Take a look at his televised performance in "Aida" with Giulietta Simionato. It seems he was a great singer but not a good actor at all.

      @@marisamassimino6418 I'm sorry, Marisa, but I stand by what I said. I can't help but laugh when I watch this video of Del Monaco. Using the arms to help one's singing is necessary, as you say. But the arms (and hands and face and entire body) need to be used to express what the text and music are saying. And the words at this point in the opera are anything but funny. It's a very serious moment.
      In my opinion, tenors such as Jon Vickers, Franco Corelli, and more recently Ben Heppner were far more effective than Del Monaco in singing this incredible cabaletta from "Norma." Del Monaco is fantastic vocally (although he botches the last few notes before the final high note), but nowhere near the others as an actor.

      I would have to say that both Franco Corelli and Jon Vickers topped Del Monaco in this aria and in this role. The ending of this performance is very poor--even compared to his 1955 performance at La Scala with Callas. Check that out.

      @@jamesnickoloff6692 Agreed, the high tessitura of Polione puts some degree of strain on MDM's vocal cords, while Corelli and Vickers play the role with no difficulties. Otherwise, MDM remains a titan, even under the exigencies of Norma.

    Del Monaco non cantava, emetteva suoni, potentissimi, poderosi, squillantissimi, ma la sua era solo un'emissione vocale fine a se stessa, di fraseggio neppure l'ombra.
    Anche il modo di muovere il corpo dice un violento, rigido, meccanico sforzo per buttare fuori suono correttamente, rispettando le giuste posizioni interne, ma niente più.

      Stendiamo un velo pietoso sul suo incosciente giudizio! Ma di che fraseggio parla. Si rende conto che quell'aria di Pollione deve essere intrisa di imponenza celebrativa, possente dominio. Va cantata proprio in quel modo, altro che. L'interpretazione è unica ed inarrivabile. Provi ad ascoltarla da altri tenori, altrettanto famosi, ma più lirici e melodici. Perde tutto il fascino dell'irruenza. Ho l'impressione che lei voglia atteggiarsi ad intenditore, ma in realtà dovrebbe studiare molto ancora. Cordialmente.
