Amazing explanation. Thank you so much. Planning a 10 day roadtrip and was wondering if this setup is sufficient if we charge the fridge on the car 12v while driving.
Thanks for the video i have the battery box and considering what size battery to buy and you answered the question and the solar charging too. happy camping
Thanks so much for this video it's exactly what I needed But I have 2 questions 1. Can I connect it like you showed in this video but with the ultra slim 100ah lithium? I want that that battery because I plan to properly install it to the car battery later 2. If it's permanent in the car later how will it handle hot days when my car is in the sun and I can't leave doors open ( or at the shops or gym)
Hi Patrick, Thank you for the comment, I'll address those in order: 1. You can do, however they have an anderson port so you may need to terminate your cables of have adaptors added in. 2. having a case to place around the unit to cut down the heat ingress into the battery will help keep the heat off. Regards, Andrew
Such a great helpfull video. We often go away on weekends only. We normally try to get powered sites but doing busy. It's very hard. This set up looks great. We only have a kings 22 can fridege, so it should work easy. Is there a big difference between fixed solar and fold out solar? Cheers
why didnt you put the battery charger alligator clips onto the external pos and neg instead of opening the lid and connecting it to the battery terminals??
What's this whole set up cost?? I'm on a mobile so can't itemize all the items you used. Maybe you could provide a parts list for those interested? So customers could just walk into the store knowing what their after and have an idea on cost. Excellent vid, well explained. Cheers.

this is super helpful! thanks for that my 12v plug at the back can run when my car is off, is that bad? should i be getting someone to have a look and change to work only when car is on?
just wondering if this simple set up would work the kings 75 litre fridge/freezer with the 138 amh agm battery and the 250w folding solar panel. My camping is very simple and i would only be running the fridge and a few lights at night that's pretty much it, thanks
Question: I might be completely wrong with this but I already have an isolator with another AGM battery (for recovery/backup). Can I add a lithium battery system with a DC-DC charger from my AGM house Battery? Out should I take the second AGM out?
Hi there, I do unfortunately need to advise that you would need to have the AGM and lithium on separate circuits as they operate at different voltages, and can potentially cause issues by attempting to balance their load. Regards, Andrew
@@4wdsupacentreAu Thanks for the reply. So i would be wrong in connecting the DC-DC bat charger to the AGM battery in my truck bed instead of the starter battery? Could you have just an anderson plug in the boot connected striaght to the main car battery(with a fuse?) to charge on the go? So youd start the car then plug the second battery in and unplug before plugging anything onto the second battery when stopped?
Hi there, That is in essence how the set up functions as the DCDC would allow for equalising the two batteries safely, as we would always recommend batteries in parallel and series match in design and capacity if connected directly. Regards, Andrew
I only need a battery for charging my phone, laptop and camera battery. Was wondering how you go about plugging a laptop that normally charges from a 240 v socket into one of these battery boxes? is there something to convert the 12 to 240?
Hi there, For this purpose we would recommend looking at our inverters, as they're the part of our system that converts from 12 to 240v. Regards, Andrew
I was thinking of getting a battery box and another AGM battery in parallel ( 1 in the battery box and 1 next to it), then using the outlets on the battery box as a permanent set-up. I have two batteries and two fridges how do I keep them fully charged especially one that is only plugged in to solar only because it’s down to E1 how do I fix it
If it’s only a 2 or 3 hour drive I leave it in the back of the Ute connected to the battery. Not worth the hassle since I’m on lithium plus it’s a lot safer incase you have an accident. Solar will replace your lost hours whilst driving.

Hi there, Thank you for the follow up, for older model batteries this would be correct, as previous hard rubber units you could see degradation over time, however since the new standard uses polypropylene they no longer degrade in the same way so that would be fine. Regards, Andrew

Work out how many watts your fridge uses when running. Let's say it's 40 watts. Divide that by 12 volts = 3.3 amp hours. So every hour you use 3.3 amps from your battery. So watts divided by volts = amp hours used from your battery.
I wish someone would explain if the KINGS battery box should be in the ON position to charge from either 240, car or solar panel. I found it doesn't charge when not in the on position. Am I doing it right?
Power station is 2-3x the price of a replaceable lifepo4 battery. Plus you can easily expand capacity without using proprietary connections and extra batteries. Can get 3kwh for under $500 lol.
FINALLY! Thank you for explaining how to do this without permanently wiring everything into your vehicle.

Nah you can leave it in, you won't damage it or anything, they only take it out for space to use when not camping.
If you're not using it at the moment, it's heavy and you'll get worse mileage while driving. Same as any other heavy junk in your trunk.

Can I use my 12V plug from my car to charge the battery?
No
Charge battery in the field with ALP propane generator.
Very Helpful and clear.
I always thought 12.6+ was 100% and 12.06 was 50% at a resting charge. 12v stuff confuses me 🤷🏽♂️
The voltage is higher when charging, when you stop charging it, it should drop back down to ~12.6V
I think it depends on specifically what you're talking about. Obviously, '12 volt power' is just the name, not a precise voltage.
