Edit: I forgot to mention! The rainy season has begun (up to 1"/day when it's storming), and I have been zealously watching over the storm drain on the corner where we live. The road surface at the beginning may not be asphalt, but just oiled instead. It's used on some low-traffic roads here in Alberta: a heavy oil is put down on gravel, and traffic compacts it down over time into a surface similar to very thin asphalt pavement. It's way cheaper than actual asphalt (since oil is just sprayed from the back of a truck), but the road surface is a lot more durable than bare gravel.

Not to break you bubble . It’s not ashphalt at all but called chip seal. Where they spray a layer of tar then apply Stone an roll in down. That’s all the tar truck is self heating. Think about how far a truck load of ashphalt has to travel an how cold it would get. An then you have edges from the machine laying the ashphalt. An it would be black. Just something you should know the oil run off would contaminate water near buy.
So they do chip an seal. Even on city streets now it’s cheaper.

Thank you very much for this very interesting and informative video presentation. This was an interesting variety of culverts that you put before the people but without doubt that one at the end was in serious trouble, due in no small measure by a degree of neglect by the local authority. One would hope that action will be taken to fell and remove the offending tree and get to work, by specialist machinery, to urgently unclog that culvert, or else they will have the very great expense of replacing a washed out road. The community are grateful that this has been made known by you.

Is it just the male of the species or do all beavers work to build these dams? Just curious. Would love to see the opening of that last culvert! Thanks again.

I unclogged a culvert between my house and the next for the first time, felt good.

“These beavers 🦫 are out of control”!! I about lost it when you said that. Aaahahahahah! That’s beavers for you, they’re never “in control” are they? 😆 I seriously can’t believe that tree was still standing with barely a toothpick sized piece of wood holding it up. I wonder what made the beavers stop chewing when it was already 99.99999% of the way done cutting the tree down? That’s an out of control beavers right their. Lol

That would be an epic unclogging if you would be able to get down there. Glad that is no wear near me because I would try it. Thanks for another great video post 10 !

Looks like it could be crushed asphalt.
In Illinois they’re using it on road shoulders, driveways, and anything you can think of.

Well Post 10, you've done your job I'd say. My GF and I went for a walk at the local city park and I pointed out a clearly beaver dammed culver. She asked me if I was going to come back and clear it out xD

The asphalt is called chip seal, it’s rock chips spread onto liquid asphalt, all over top of a base coarse of traditional paver machine installed bituminous concrete. Bituminous concrete is the technical term for the pavement we usually drive on.
