Bohemian is a lovely elegant horse. He does get a bit deep quite often. A lot of these horses here were in a very hard contact but Bohemian seems to want to evade any bit contact.
It also amazes me that so many riders seem to ride as though they only have one rein in each hand and this results in way too much curb pressure.
The judges didn't seem to think it an issue either that Atterupgårds Orthilia had her tongue out.

I missed nanna's ride today so just went back to watch. I need a bigger screen 😂. The mouth is so busy and has so much fluff it is hard to tell if I am seeing things. I also thing geo puts his tongue out in the hp but it's hard to tell

Orthilia have a bad habbit of playing with her tongue when she gets very exited. Nanna knows this and is training hard to get to know orthilia better so she can prevent this😊👍🏼

@@theakpke4432 If Orthilia has a bad habit of playing with her tongue it usually is because of the bit irritating in some way. I hope Nanna can sort it out as she does some good work.

It's an old habbit and those die hard. It's from long before she took over the reigns on ortilia. And if you check her insta there are plenty videos from training etc where ortilias mouth is closed.

@@theakpke4432 You are right i just looked at Fiona on her and although the tongue wasn't out she is fiddling with the bits all the time. So the habit has been there a long time. I was only commenting on her performance in Hagen. ( habit not habbit reins not reigns)

The announcer said it best. Brilliant test. The music was perfect! Every step of the horse matched the tempo of the music and I loved the vocals!

What a weird title. I have a bit of trouble calling IW the "queen" of dressage and if at all, it is Jessica von Bredow Werndl who currently really "dethroned" some of the prior frequent champions like Charlotte Dujardin. Gio was my personal favourite today and I am super excited for the future of this young horse, and of course Dalera was magnificent.

    • @jonjonwp

The last time Mount St John Freestyle competed she beat Dalera ! Hope she comes back with a bang soon.

@@jonjonwp absolutely hope so, too! I must confess, when Charlotte announced she wouldn't take MSJ to Tokyo, but Gio, I hadn't really seen or heard much of him at that stage and was thus baffled about her choice. But boy, was I wrong, he really won my heart in the meanwhile and what I love most about all of Charlotte's horses is their beutiful presence and attitude, which comes with good training, they all look so eager to give their best for her, ears always pricked forward and they all have this "what's next?-look" on their faces, like Valegro. Again goes to show "beautiful horses are made" (in the sense of created through training, maybe someone can tell me how to translate that better, Ingrid Klimke says it often "Schöne Pferde werden gemacht")

@@misssophie6515 Thank you for answering. I have followed Gio from the start and he was always going to be a star but like you wasn't sure he would be ready for the Olympics but he really loves his work and never ever says no. He just gets on with it.
I think i would alter your wording to Good horses are made not bred.
Charlotte has a lot of horses you can look forward to seeing. Florentina has just won her first GP. She has, Imhotep, Charmer, Odette, Times Kismet, Mon Amour and Alive and Kicking .
The real reason why MSF Freestyle hasn't at least been at the Euros is a bit of a mystery.

@@jonjonwp I saw several of Carl's and Charlotte's up and coming horses during a yard open morning in 2018, where they decided to show us not so much the champions we all know from shows and yt, but their young horses. It was shortly before the WEG Tryon so we couldn't see MSJ and Delicato, as they were already in quarantine. But I remember after Gio Charlotte changed horses to Vogue, and he looked so big standing next to Gio and his flying changes seemed like an A380 take off each time ;-)! But it was the most lovely morning, the place is so friendly and relaxed and the horses really seem to have a great life there. But several of the horses you emntioned I haven't even seen yet, I am excited!

All good and well but this horse was behind the vertical almost the entire test. So no point in teaching young riders the opposite, is there?

I also didn't like the head position and frame of Bohemian today and he looked flat, she had to work hard to keep him going at times, not as much harmony and spring as Charlotte & Gio imo.

Very interesting competition, lovely to see so some younger horses shine today. And a very deserving top 3. Gio was incredible today, bohemian was great. And yet still so much potential to grow for both of them. Dalera was incredible as always.
And as a Dutch it was really great to see what Dinja achieved, even with those big mistakes, with her young mare. I also thought Ruoste deserved a bigger score than Isabell.

Do u guys actually know millions of people ride a horse wrong in dressage and other sports. Riding "Above the bit" is when a horses head is raised and neck is stiffened resulting in a dropped back, increased weight on the forehand and shortened steps by the hind leg. This is one way horses r being ridden wrong riding above the bit causes a bulge to form in the outline of the lower neck. Now this one, which is called riding "Behind the bit" is a very common way dressage people ride their horses and it's wrong. Riding behind the bit causes the horse's face to be ridden behind the vertical plane, his neck vertebrae are compressed, the horse's strides become uneven, causing the horse to take shorter steps with his hind legs and bigger ones with his front legs, which makes them look like they are "goose stepping". Riding behind the bit results in the bulging over-development of the muscles along the top of the neck. The parotid glands become enlarged and permanently protrude. There is only one right way to ride which is "On the bit", which means the horse is calmly and softly seeking contact with their rider's hands through the bit. This affects the carriage of the horses whole body. On the bit doesn't refer to just how the head and neck are carried, but how the entire horse's body functions. The necks of correctly ridden horses show evenly developed muscling that appears to flow smoothly from withers to poll. The underneck is soft and concave.

I'm not quite comfortable with her ride. She seems to hang on his mouth and behind the vertical most of the test. Also, his extensions were nothing to write home about. He looked like he was on his forehand. When the horse does extensions and in turn canter pirouette, the horse should be sitting on his hind legs - almost as if setting up for the Levade or a jump. Carl Hester said it best. Horses hind legs should be under the BELLY not the hips. I looked back at Valegro; his hind legs were practically to the girth. She's got a ways to go before she has that much there to work with.

It's not been altogether nice to watch Bohemian recently. Today was a little better. I could understand his BTV and his timidness when he was younger at his too early Grand Prix start, but he hasn't really come up in his frame in total, healthy self carriage as he has aged, matured and developed as expected, And he seems quite a bit shot down mentally. Usually the result of learned helplessness. The second test back at the Olympics was downright awful. He seemed on the verge of collapse, completey depleted and it was completely gaslit from his rider, trainer and team, sycophantic fans and the entire dressage world. The huge drop in score was narrated manipulatively (but transparently) as only due to a small hick-up in one of the pirouettes by Cathrine and coach Nathalie. Dressage will only harm itself by this lack of accountability and transparency and the dubious reputation it already has won't be helped.
The general tongue issue with another Danish rider/Atterupgaard's Othilia was also very bothersome. It shouldn't be allowed to do a test with a horse so strongly signalling discomfort the entire way through.

When Dufour's score came out higher than Charlotte's yesterday I sat there in disbelief, the judging this Europeans was not very consistent or good imo. Yesterday Dufour had to work so hard to keep him going, none of the spark and engagement that Gio has, Bohemian looked flat and barely lifted his feet off the ground in the piaffes and his head was behind the vertical almost the entire test, I also didn't enjoy watching it. It is sad that the FEI still rewards things that should not be rewarded, my ranking would have looked different, not just in this case. I also liked Carl's GP Special a lot better and would have expected a higher score for him.

@@misssophie6515 bohemian has more rhythm and suspension in his piaffe-passage work. So even slightly btv, he is still a point ahead. I thought Charlotte was better than Cathrine in some technical parts, but the piaffe/passage counts twice. Also charlottes freestyle is a bit plain imo.. apparently the judges felt the same, and that’s why Cathrine won silver.

@@claudia273 I believe as much as they want to give their best in tests, Charlotte puts the mental welfare of her horses as priority. She doesn’t have to ONCE AGAIN prove her capabilities as a rider and what she does. (She already proved it with Valegro) She wants her horses to enjoy every moment, and there will be more tests awaiting for them. This (and the Olympics) is just a start. IMO I think it’s more important to see how the horses reacts and behaves after tests. And you can see Pumpkin is always still full of energy and eyes lit up after tests. So you know he’s really trained properly to have a happy heart to any and every major events. THIS is what I think most important.

@@raymondwong5175 I don’t believe that people who care more about their horses than medals fly them across the world and put them in a stable for 22 hours a day. But yeah.. that’s just my opinion. I think she’s a rather fair rider with great management. Seeing how a horse reacts after a test doesn’t say that much, maybe something about the amount of tests or their personality.
