I have a nice tip for your next time you do this replacement. What i did i removed the throttle body filter box three 10mm bolts then you can see the other end . Ok now take the same bolt from the shift put in in from threaded side put a flat screw driver to stop the bolt thighen the bolt on to the screw driver this will open up the end piece works fast no need to hit .

This was a known issue on the 2013 through 16 Avalon and Camry. A lot of them were fixed under warranty, but I think a lot of people never went back in because there’s didn’t fail in time. Toyota had a service bulletin to repack the original steering shaft, but then they wind up just replacing them. I always highly recommend only using OEM parts on Toyota. There’s a reason why this intermediate staring shaft cost $230 versus the $80 Amazon Chinese special.

The shaft seldom fails it usually always the damper that makes the noise🤨
