Benin, the oldest city in Nigeria, the true owners of Eko, lagos state and benin Republic. Not looking bad,but it can be improved, road markings for a start, they need to paint the buildings and plant more trees and greenery, that would make a difference.Check sapele roads, seems like a decent street too. Thank you.

Saying the Binis are the true owners of Lagos state and Benin Republic is Falacious and a mischievous rendering of history. The Binis have no ancestral land outside of the city of Benin. The only thing they have outside of the city are traditional royal stools who have allegiance with or were established by the old Benin kingdom. In Eko (i.e. the Lagos Island) for example, the land belongs to the Aworis (a Yoruba sub-group) while the crown is of Benin origin, same as other places like Warri where we have a people different from the crown. It's just like you saying the Brits are true owners of Nigeria (because they once ruled here), or even Australia (because of its allegiance to the British crown).
For the rest of Lagos state outside of the Island (which by the way is less than 30% of the state), we have different Yoruba groups who have indigenous &royal ownership. Eko is not Lagos state, but just a subset of it, and the Oba of Lagos's territory is limited to that portion.
For Benin Republic, it's just a question of allegiance/respect for the old stool that was once an icon of African civilisation.
Please let's be careful not to make misleading statements.
By the way, Sapele road isn't a street, it's a highway (trunk A - federal road) that starts from the city center and ends in Sapele round-about in another state.

      @suntanglory 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@oluwatosinakintayo5526 You are speaking rubbish.. So benin Republic change their entire country name to benin just because of allegiance to a stool,an old civilisation? 🤣🤣 The whole world would have been called Rome by now then by your reasoning because they once had a civilisation too. 🤣Can some Nigerians learn to think before speaking? Weigh up what you are about to say first and see how it sound? If Eko is just lagos, why is there lsale eko then? There wouldn't have been a need for bottom, a business district or top because everywhere would have been lsale? But there is lsale Eko because the rest of lagos state is Eko as well.Who are the Aworis? Where do they come from? Many words/names in lagos are still benin names till today, oba, oregun, Alaba etc.Yes, these words are yoruba today but the source is benin. Warri, lshekeri, lkwere and some parts of oguta in lmo state all came from benin in edo state physically.Sapele Road is still a street, might be a trunk A road but it is still full of houses with street number, so technically it can still be a street Mr know it all.

@@suntanglory It's unfortunate some persons do not know how to engage in a conversation or debate without being insultive.
Anyways, let me respond to your comments on Lagos and Bènin Republic.
Eko or Isalẹ Eko where the Oba reigns is just a subset of Lagos state. Other places Epe, Ikotun, Agege, Badagry, Ikeja Ikorodu, Mushin, Oshodi, Berger, Surulere etc. are not part of Eko. The history of the creation of Lagos state would help you understand better.
And for Eko itself, the Aworis who are the undisputable landlords in Eko are still alive today and they know their history.
The words Oba and Àlábà are of Yoruba origin, they mean king and owner of the compound/avenue respectively. The word for king in the Bini dialect is Ogie. The word Oba was introduced to the Binis after Oranmiyan was brought from Ile-Ife to Igodomigodo (present day Benin City) to become king. He started the Oba dynasty. Before him, they called their kings Ogiso, which means 'king of the sky'.
Places are often named by different people who settle in a place at different times, after all, we also have Victoria Island, Marina and Mazamaza (which are of English and Hausa origin) in Lagos.
Concerning Bènin Republic, it was first named Dahomey before the name change to Benin, named after the Bight of Benin (that coincidentally got its name from old Benin empire that once had its dominance and influence along that coastal corridor). It was more of a political move to deemphasize the dominance of the Fons, because the Fons (or Fongbes) owned the ancient Dahomey kingdom. The indigenous people of present day Benin Republic are Gbes (the Gouns, Fon, Sax), Yorubas and others who share no sanguine ancestral ties with the Binis of present day Benin city.
Mali and Ghana are other examples of nations renamed after great old empires or kingdoms.
I have nothing against you, I just urge you to be "Berean" in your approach.
By the way, I currently reside in Benin city.

@@aizeeokundaye1975 Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria by land mass and is at the same time the most populous state in Nigeria where 21million people resides.
Traffic is the main problem of Lagos; though railways are under construction. This can help to ease traffic. Lagos is a beautiful city. I love Lagos regardless of any situation.

Republic of Benin(Dahomey) is different than Benin City in Nigeria. The Benin people of Nigeria were one of the few nations in Nigeria, that were not involved in the slave trade.
